My only hope is they come up with popsicle flavors that are more kid friendly. For little ones I recommend the Peanut Butter and Banana popsicle and the BROWN BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE which is a brown butter ice cream filled with crisp chocolate chip cookies. Heard all about these ice pops, and didn't realize The Hyppo was not another way of spelling The Hippo...drome. I tried to find a list of the day's flavors online, but failed. The menu on their website is insanely huge, so it was difficult to collect my orders from my family members without knowing what was available that day, so I went in blind. I really appreciated that they carried kid sizes, but with only 2 flavors, the options were kind of lackluster. The chocolate kids flavor has a spicy kick to it, which isn't so kid friendly. Wish that had been marked somewhere so I knew this before purchasing, but the flavors of the pops don't have any descriptions that I could see. I found this kind of frustrating. Ironically, my family gave me 2 requests to look for amongst the many flavors: lemon and vanilla. However, neither of these flavors were available (mixed with other flavors of course!). I was hoping for something refreshing and light, like a lemon with basil, but the only slightly savory option was not an herb I could imagine enjoying as a sweet pop. I ended up ordering the nutella pop, which was delicious, but noxt quite what I was looking for. My husband loved his key lime popsicle, though. This apparently includes The Hyppo, a gourmet ice pop shop in the downtown area. I stumbled upon this place after eating with some friends. There are easily over a dozen unique, different types of frozen ice pops but I chose the black raspberry goat cheese. While a single pop was about $5, when else can you get a combination like this? The flavor was outstanding! The black raspberry gave a tart but sweet flavor and the goat cheese was subtle but made this frozen pop so creamy. The Hyppo is now Mayday Ice Cream x Hyppo, with new ice cream flavors alongside the classic pops! I stopped by during their grand opening to try out some of the ice cream flavors for 50% off, and was surprised. I tried the Cookie Crush and Wildberry and was shockingly slightly disappointed. The ice cream was very icy, and not creamy, and while the Cookie Crush flavor was great, the Wildberry was pretty mid and super icy. There were also only 2 employees working despite it being the grand opening and a long line out the door at 9 pm, so staffing seems to be a bit rough. The girl working was super nice and had great service, but the skinny guy had serious attitude with every customer that he interacted with - slamming and throwing things around and speaking down on everyone. Overall the ice cream is super pricey - around $6-7 for one small scoop, and the ice cream quality isn't the best. Service is a hit or miss, but the interior of the shop is cute and the ice pops are always a classic. Would only purchase again at the half off price. read more

This is EASILY my favorite dessert place in all of Gainesville, maybe even Florida. We've come here twice in one day a few times, it's THAT good. They have so many flavors which is a blessing and a curse. You might find a seasonal favorite that only comes around every once in a while - for me, that's the honey cinnamon cheesecake flavor that literally tastes like cinnamon toast crunch ice cream on a stick. There are a ton of fruit flavors, alcoholic pops, chocolate-y flavors, and cheesecake flavors to choose from. The workers are always so kind and helpful with suggestions. They sell very cute merchandise inside the store as well. Every now and then I'll be adventurous and try a new flavor like datil (spicy pepper) cheesecake, which was surprisingly delicious. At $5 or under for a pop, it's worth the gamble. The shop used to offer sample sizes of select flavors each day pre-covid, which was a great way to try new pops with minimal risk, so hopefully that will be brought back once it is safe to do so. This is the only store in Gainesville now and is located downtown so parking is a nightmare, but it's worth it to get one of these pops. read more

Found this place by accident on our adventure today. We were on the hunt for a frozen yogurt place that apparently is no longer in this area but saw The Hyppo had "gourmet ice pops" and decided to check it out. So glad we did! The young lady behind the counter was super helpful and gave us good insight on all the different flavors. It's a small shop kind of tucked away on a side street downtown but you definitely need to seek it out for a cold treat, totally worth it! I had the granny's apple pie pop and my husband had the pineapple orange bar; both full of flavor and so delicious. Mine was like a perfectly flavored apple pie and you could taste fresh pineapple in my husbands pineapple orange pop. Next time we are down here in Gainesville we will be making it a point to stop in and try some other flavors. read more

We are experiencing a cold front and it's easily 50-60 degree weather but this gourmet ice pop store, of all businesses, caught our attention with its array of flavors available. We decided to "pop" in a visit and escape the cold for a little bit and started looking at all the options. Just to look. We saw so many flavors, from ranges of exotic fruits like jackfruit/dragonfruit/guanabana to simpler ones like coconut/Granny Smith apples and flavors I never expect on a popsicle like chocolate espresso/cilantro&pineapple/eggnog/ & blackberry goat cheese?? Come on now, there is something for anyone. Even for me and my particular friend. If you are lactose intolerant, avoid the popsicles checked with the cow icon, or if you like to live a little dangerously, there are even spicy flavors available, and you will see the ones checked accordingly. My company and I did not expect to eat a freaking popsicle while we are freezing our butts off but we were just too tempted and opted to try some. I picked a Bourbon Apple Pie because how in the world can that go wrong. You can smell the bourbon but you don't even get that icky liquor burn in the taste. Just sweet yummy green apple pie with hint of caramel to it. It actually has bits of apples in it as we ate it. Also, the texture of this one is juuust right. The one my friend got and switched with me since she couldn't get past the texture is a Blackberry Jasmine Tea combo. There are blackberry seeds compacted with each bite. And the tea essence was not hiding among the flavor of berries. Nice jasmine taste! I am a glutton for anything infused with tea and natural ingredients so I did not mind the switch AT ALL. SO GOOD. I want more but this was a quick day trip for me and I am happy this stop was a part of it. They originate in St. Augustine and ship their popsicles to this location in Gainesville. It's nearly impossible to pick just one. There are so many delicious flavors to choose from. To make things harder, you also have the option of dipping your ice pop in chocolate for only a dollar extra. I was having a hard time deciding between honeydew basil, banana vanilla, bourbon peach, Mexican hot chocolate, and blueberry cinnamon. After about 15 minutes of complaining about how unfair it is that I had to choose just one, I decided on the Honeydew Basil. The flavor combination was really good. The Honeydew was sweet, but the basil provided a refreshing break from the sugary monotony. These are definitely not the ice pops you used to get from the corner store when you were a kid. These are frozen treats on a whole new, Grown Up level. They give you a "rewards card" of sorts, so when you buy 7, you get the 8th free. My best friend and I came here almost everyday. I am a big fan of The Hyppo! Who couldn't be really? It is a gourmet popsicle and it is delicious! I love going to the Hyppo after a long day and grabbing my favorite, Cherry Key Lime (when they have it) and just sitting in my car usually and enjoying! I have tried around 10 different flavors of The Hyppo popsicles since moving to Gainesville! I like some a lot and others I am just glad I tasted it. Some of my favorite flavors have been Cherry Key Lime, Mojito, Blueberry Cheesecake, Starfruit, and Peanut Butter Pie! The popsicles are very reasonably priced and they are always so nice and welcoming every time I go into the shop! There are a few popsicles that just don't fancy me and the strawberry lemonade is one of them. I don't know why I don't love it, maybe I am just crazy LOL! I have been going to Hyppo since I was 17 and I can say with 100% confidence that they never disappoint! Every time I go I try a new flavor because something different always sounds good. I honestly love their options as I love a cold treat like ice cream but I am sensitive to dairy. This time I went with the guava hibiscus and my boyfriend went with the avocado coconut! Mine was fruity and his was creamy. Both were really great! I also love the stamp card they have, I always have it with me! This location is usually empty (at least every time I've gone in it has been). I really like how easy it is to pick out the flavor that sounds the best and how quick and friendly the staff is. Summertime is upon us. The bros have left, Maude's patio is hot and you're hung over. Its another beautiful day in Downtown Gainesville. I like to eat Hyppo pops all the time, literally at all times of day. A cool pick me up after a rough night, a sweet snack after lunch. Or my personal favorite, sunset on the steps of the Hippodrome with a citrusy lemonade popsicle. This was my summer routine when Hyppo first opened. The $3.50 are well worth it, imo. Never once have I wanted to step into mochi, but I have found myself in the Hyppo multiple times a day before. Their rotating menu of frozen treats is at times overwhelming, but most often its a delight. I subscribe to the school of "I picked it cause I saw it first" when it comes to deciding on their many choices. The staff is often very helpful in selecting a popsicle, but I usually just go with whatever I see first. The citrus based pops are my favorite here, not a fan personally of the creamier varieties. Its cute, its fun, its a popsicle. I wish I had come up with this business idea, but at least I get to enjoy the concept! read more

I tried the Elvis one (peanuts, banana, and honey) and really enjoyed it. It felt rich, fresh, and not overly sweet. You can taste very ingredient in it. Second time I've been to The Hyppo, but the first time I've been to the one in G'ville. It didn't disappoint, their popsicles are refreshing and fresh. You can tell they aren't using artificial flavors, and using real fruit. I got Straight-up Strawberry and had it dipped in chocolate, and it was amazing. Me and my family love coming to Hyppo for a quick little treat. They have so many flavors to choose from which makes it so difficult to pick just one, but the staff is always so so kind and they'll describe each and every flavor you ask them to, no matter how many. I really appreciate that because it's so helpful to know how sour or how sweet each popsicle will be, especially because most of these flavors are so unique. I personally love getting my popsicles dipped in chocolate but some aren't really suited for that. I always ask the staff which flavor would be best with chocolate and they're so good with helping you choose. I would avoid getting the icier popsicles with chocolate and would definitely recommend getting the creamier ones with chocolate, like pistachio coconut. read more

Hyppo occupies a tiny store in the Hampton inn building in downtown Gainesville. Across from Dragonfly, this popsicle stand does a lot with its tiny footprint. The star of the store are the freezers which act as the counters. Inside these freezers were a myriad of popsicle flavors. Eggnog, chocolate peppermint, tangerine, cantaloupe and black pepper just to name a few flavors. The register attendant was quite helpful, and helped us decode between the pepermint chocolate, and the chocolate orange. We went with the latter. The chocolate was nice and creamy, and definitey dark. The orange was in the form of candied orange peel, which gave a pleasing chewy contrast to the cramy chocolate.
