This was a wonderful place we found while stopping through Syracuse on the way to Maryland (from Canada). We parked on the street and walked over and were greeted by some warm staff members. Our waitress was also so stinknig sweet, I wish I remembered her name but she had some awesome makeup and just cozy vibes. The beer menu is very extensive, so take your time reading all of it or just ask your server. She was great at recommendations. There is also an option for a flight so you can get small pours of pretty much whatever is on tap. Lots of fun stuff, I ended up having a sour that I highly enjoyed and I also had a beer cheese sandwich with a side salad. I have to say I highly enjoyed it! Our waitress even warned us that the beer cheese is too bitter for some people (because they don't realize maybe what it is). But it was fantastic. The bathrooms and play area were big, bring your kids, friends, friends' friends, or whatever, this place can accomodate it. My hubby's burger looked pretty good too. Haven't been here in awhile, so was happy that they were one of the few beer joints with a varied menu that was open on a Monday night. My friend and I got a booth near the front door (quite chilly inside, especially when customers came in or left). Bring a sweater or hoodie when eating here in the winter. Server was great. Ordered a variety of beers. All fresh, well poured and reasonably priced. I did hope for fewer IPAs and fruit/sours, but I enjoyed the brown ale, porter and winter warmer. Food was pricey. We got two appetizers (5 wings and 2 tacos) and that alone was $33 with tip. Lastly, the place is a bit of a sports bar, with large screen tvs and rock music playing. Fresh avocado, pickled jalapeños, tomatillo salsa, cheddar cheese, spicy-ranch, cilantro. Delicious and fresh. For mains I ordered the "Bacon care of business" burger. OH MY GOD. First of all, that Nashville hot chicken sandwich was ‍! So good. Seasoned perfectly. I got the Veggie Classic Poutine and my husband got the Big Lebowski. This is where I took off a star. Not for flavor. That veggie poutine is DELICIOUS! But it was quite small for $13. Like side order size. The Big Lebowski was easily 2-3X larger. I figured it was because it has pierogies, but we did a comparison after the four pierogies came out of the box. There were A LOT more fries in that order. Good space, accessible bathroom, but the issue is the food we paid for didn't come out on time and ran out fast with replenishment taking a while. Absolutely LOVE this spot. It is HUGE inside with lots of seating with tables, booths or at the bar. I've gone both recently and in October (when it was still nice enough to sit outside) and both experiences were wonderful. I went during Syracuse dining week with some friends where we got the $25 pre fixe menu that included a choice of soda/beer, appetizer and entree. I got the poutine as an appetizer with the chicken sandwich as an entree and their chicken sandwiches are so tender and juicy. They give you a LOT of food so make sure to go on an empty stomach! First of all, there are two locations! One in Armory Square in Syracuse, one in Clayton, up on the St.Lawrence River. I've eaten at both. You can't beat eating outside in the fall up near the river. I had a beer and a burger. It was the best burger ever, called You're bacon me crazy. Dee-lish! Went to the Syracuse location. I wasn't in the mood for a burger, and ordered the fried green tomato sandwich. It arrived and I started eating the side salad. A couple minutes later, Waitress comes over and sets down a plate. Puzzled, I asked what it was... My fried green tomatoes. They forgot to put them on my sandwich... Oy. Wonder what the heck was going on in the kitchen?! Upfront - This is a total Friends and Family recommendation. Heck, I'd even recommend The Hops Spot to people I dislike, because even they deserve to try this place out. It's just that good. I was extremely surprised at the number of beers available on tap. I believe it was 43 (+/- a few). Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed and simply told the waitress the type I wanted to make up my flight then left the specifics up to her. She did not disappoint....and from sampling the others that made up the flights of my wife and the couple we were with...all were excellent. The beer was exceptional. But...hold on....there's more. Let's talk the food... 1. Appetizers: An order of Pork Belly and fried Duck Wings. Okay can I simply say - OMG, both were absolutely spectacular. The Pork Belly was tender, juicy and finger licking good. It was all I could do to restrain myself from licking the plate. The Duck Wings Nashville Hot style were crispy and so full of flavor it was reticula's. If we did not order meals, I would have ordered more of each of the Pork Belly and Duck Wings and I'd have been perfectly content to make a meal of these. 2. Main Dishes: I was thoroughly captivated by the 3 different cuts of beef that composed their burgers and selected the "Make Your Own" option. For me a Hamburger is perhaps one of the best foods you can eat....and this one did not disappoint. Lets call it a completely fulfilling burger in every since of comprehension. Dam near a Foodgasim happened. My wife had the Fox Poutine. She allowed me to sample and that was it. She kept the rest for herself, and I honestly can not blame her. They were wonderful. The Hops Spot is located in the space that Empire Brew Pub used to be in. We went on a Sunday night, when dining options in Syracuse are pretty slim. The restaurant wasn't especially packed but service was a little slow. Not a big deal-- I know there's food service hiring issues going on right now and many places are strapped for staff. It was just kinda one of those "you weren't ready to order a minute after you were sat so now you have to wait a bit" situations. Maybe just don't go if you're in a rush. In any case, the menu has a TON of beer options, including lots of local brews. I went for the 1911 Watermelon Mint cider, which was very refreshing on a sweltering summer night. Also love that they have such a big vegan menu. My dining partner was vegan, so this definitely made it easier for her-- it's always a bummer when your guest only has one or two options to choose from. The poutine was tasty, though a little pricey for the size. The real star of the evening was the dessert poutine. They billed it as rocky road, though it was really more s'moresy-- funnel cake fries with chocolate sauce and marshmallow fluff (which we got on the side so that my vegan friend could indulge too.) This seems like a happening joint down near the convention center where a lot of 20-somethings come to get down. Kind of a rustic feel to it with wood accents and gear boxes- as well as a large gear mechanism hanging from the ceiling. There is a bar area when you walk in with small half circle booths (kind of like the sushi place in PGH that was 90° inside). We sat at a table and quickly and placed our order for beverages. One in our party is into weird ass beers so he had a few of those but I stuck to cancer drinks and went Diet Coke and a water. Waitress was also the hostess so things were a little slow. This place specializes in poutine (fries, cheese curds, gravy, as well as sanwdwiches. They had a chicken sandwich that looked really good but at $16 I couldn't do it and ordered a beer cheese burger (medium) adding a fry upgrade to poutine. I will say that for the burger it was prepared perfectly, but it was very sloppy. I get beer cheese things aren't going to be perfect but the burger ran into the poutine and was a mess. As far as taste - very good but the mustard on the burger kept making me think of hot dogs. As for the poutine it was more like cheese chunks off a block rather than curds - like when mom used to buy bags of cheese chunks for salads. The main issue I had was temp of everything - my gravy was lukewarm at best, the burger was cool not hot, and had it been warmer it would have been more enjoyable. Overall just ok. Grabbed a burger at this place in the morning and came back at night for a round of beers and games out in the back. I ordered a chicken burger that came in a pretzel bun which was pretty interesting. It tasted really good and was super filling. The fries it came with were also well seasoned and not soggy. After trying a lot of chicken burgers out there, I would say that this comes in the top 3. They have a huge selection of beers and some wine. My wife and I were traveling from the Philly area to Niagara Fall for the total eclipse. Whenever we travel we look for restaurants that have been featured on DDD and this trip was no different. We chose Pastabilities on Franklin St as our pit stop for lunch. Checked their website for the menus and hours of operation before hand so we knew when to stop before setting off on our trip. When we got there the restaurant was closed so we walked around the neighborhood to find another eatery which shouldn't be difficult considering we're just a few blocks from the University. To our surprise, very few venues were open at 12pm in the afternoon but we found one, right around the corner for our original destination...The Hops Spot, and they were serving lunch and decided to give it a try before hitting the road again. We were seated immediately as the place was still only half full. When the sever arrived she was friendly and attentive and took our drink and food orders. My wife got the Grilled Chicken sandwich with fries and I got the Jacked Sweet Heat burger with poutine fries. I will tell you up front, my burger was probably one of the best I've ever eaten in a restaurant. It wasn't too large where it was falling out of the bun but it wasn't chincy either and had just the right amount of meat to the bite. Not overly juicy where the roll become soggy and falls apart. The combination of the aioli and pepper jack set the heat just right without the melt your face heat that some spice burgers offer. Best of all, they will cook it to YOUR liking. Many burger joints will claim they cook rare burgers when in reality its medium rare and in some instances medium. Nope...Hops Spot gives you RARE along with just the right amount of time on a searing hot griddle to char the outside of the burger adding to the mouth watering flavor. The fries are delicious all on their own but add the gravy and cheese curds and you have what could be a meal. The portions of fries aren't so big that you can't finsih them either, you can enjoy a perfect size sandwich/burger and the fries and leave nothing on the plate without feeling bloated. I washed it all down with their in house tangerine wheat beer. Its similar to Blue Moon but has a more citrus flavor to it and you can tell its tangerine and not orange. All in all it was a winner and if we were to pass thru Syracuse again, we'd be stopping there. read more

I daydreamed and fantasized about burgers. I meditated and contemplated on crossing over to the dark side. And after a lot of thinking and observation at the Hop Spot bar, I decided this would be the place for me to have my first burger in three years. The presentation of the burger was great and the burger itself was gorgeous. The taste was spot on. It was juicy, and the bun sort of disintegrated into the beef patty the longer I held it. It was perfect. And you know what -- I ordered and inhaled another one!!!!! I don't know if I'll ever transition into a full-fledged meat eater, but I'm so happy with the outcome of Burger Day 2021. read more

The menu is filled with tasty options, including 13 different kinds of poutine! We enjoyed the Classique Poutine - the flavors were great, but we felt the fries could have been a little crispier. The Pierogies were also pretty yummy, although they seemed deep fried, which was definitely different than a traditional pierogie. The bacon jam they are served with was super yummy! Great service and a nice atmosphere. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, the first day Walton street was closed off to traffic. We decided to eat on the patio since there were no street level tables with umbrellas. Even on the patio, it was very sunny and there was no way we could keep out of the sun, Which was quite strong that day. During the time we ate our meal there appeared to be new umbrellas delivered, which were attached to tables in the street. We ordered vegetarian poutine which seemed to be just fries and gravy.
