Our second visit during this year's parent's weekend was even better than the first visit about a year ago. The ambiance was the same and the service was great. We took my son and his 3 roommates to dinner. We tried a variety of items that were different from last year. We had the spinach - artichoke dip with chips and pita along with the maple bbq and Thai chile lime duck wings. The wings were outstanding. My wife had a take on a Reuben made with turkey and I had a bacon burger with fried bacon and bacon aioli. Neither are on the menu shown on the website. Look for them and you WONT be sorry. I also had two 10 ounce pecan Kringle stouts (12% ABV)...holy crap was that good. The quality of the food and service was a little better than last time. I increased my review to 5 stars and don't forget to visit Tallman cocktails which is connected through the rear for some fabulous cocktails.

Having been here several times over the years, it is mediocre at best. The service is slow and food is always the same. Generic and typically cold. If you like loud college bars and poutine then I suppose this is your place

If you're looking for a great spot that checks all the boxes for both adults and kids, this place is a gem. The beer selection is top-notch, and the food comes out quickly while still being delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. What really stood out was the service. Our server was incredibly attentive, making sure we had extra cups and plates for the kids meals before they started fighting over them. Small details like this really make a big difference when you're dining with little ones. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Noise level: Easy to talk Group size: Ideal for 3-5 people Wait time: No wait Kid-friendliness: Excellent (plenty of space and activities for kids) Highly recommend this place for a relaxed, family-friendly dining experience!

Birthday celebration for hubby. It's a little hard on Mondays because so many places are closed but I knew he'd enjoy The Hops Spot in Armory Square. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm so we decided to sit outside. It is so nice that their outdoor seating is covered. There were sits in the shade as well as in the sun. We started with some brews....a pilsner, a stout and a sour. They were very enjoyable and their selection cannot be beat! 20+ taps !!! Our server was excellent, checking in on us and helping with questions. Service was pretty quick and everything arrived hot. Our friend declared his poutine extremely good, and my burger and my husband's were delicious. Approx 8 oz, perfectly cooked and juicy. My husband had fries and I love that I could get a salad instead of fries for no extra charge. It was not large, but it was a perfect size for a side. I am looking forward to a return trip soon.

Quick, accommodating service and awesome burgers! So much variety, everyone loved what they ordered. I'm normally a smash burger girl but the quality of the meat here is fantastic. Perfect place to satisfy your burger craving!

The hops spot is a great place to grab a bite and a drink downtown. I will forever mourn their deviled eggs, which was my favorite appetizer until it was recently removed from the menu. Luckily there are still so many tasty items to choose from. My favorite appetizer is definitely the spinach artichoke dip, it's dangerously cheesy and magnificent. I highly recommend it with tortilla chips. There are so many poutine options, and each one I've tried has been a hit. My two favorites are The Big Lebowski and Remember the Alamo. The drinks are also outstanding, both cocktails and draughts. My favorite cocktail is the watermelon mule, it's the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. As far as draughts, I'm not a beer person but they always have a multitude of ciders available as well, and occasionally hard seltzers. The selection changes constantly, so there's always something new to try. I love the weekday and daytime ambiance, which is very chill. It can get a bit wild on weekend evenings, which isn't my speed but is definitely someone else's. The servers are always kind and helpful, and food and drinks are brought out expediently. I love coming here and highly recommend it to all.

I'm Going to say they are busy so dont r pet lightening service and they can get confused but the staff if friendly kind which to me is what's most important great place to bring family friendly and even coworkers. Be forewarned street or garage parking. Bocce ball and other games towards the back of the establishment and a diner kinda feel to it very cool and don't miss the ducks wings they are delicious.

We stopped in for late afternoon drinks on Christmas Eve. We passed so many establishments that were closed we were happy to find an open door with many patrons inside! They are sporting a vast selection of Beers, plus full bar. We enjoyed a variety amongst the four of us between a beer, rose wine for me, martini, and whiskey sours. Was a nice place chat and catch up pre dinner, reminiscent of earlier years at the former PJ Dorsey's. Sports bar ambience that is child friendly. There were some families dining towards the back of restaurant. Friendly enough service with a touch of rye. We had just visited Clayton recently, I've included a couple of snap shots of Hop Spot currently closed for season. Someone is peeking out the third story! Love to visit the Clayton location in season, great architecture!

    THE CORPORATE with fries

Rating: 4.4/5 I had the chance to go to the burger restaurant/bar and it didn't disappoint! I went during the dinning week for downtown restaurants. I got the Hawaiian Sunrise, the corporate burger with fries and Korean chicken bites for $30. Hawaiian Sunrise: a mocktail with pineapple juice, hibiscus syrup and fresh lime. Pretty good 8/10 Korean chicken bites: too crunchy for my liking but the chicken was solid. It paired well with the sriracha coleslaw. Though it wasn't spicy. 8.5/10 The Corporate: burger with fried onions, bbq sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese. Delicious and full of flavor! I used the coleslaw I had from the chicken dish and added it to the burger. The fries were good but not the best I've had. 9/10 Service: very fast despite being the restaurant being packed with people. 10/10 Ambience: very nice, wasn't too dark and had nice decor. The layout of the restaurant was good. The bar was the center and the dining area surrounded it. 9/10 Overall, amazing would go again!

    SHAKE THAT HONEY MAKER
    Wendy F.

Stopped in after running the mountain goat and had a fabulous meal. So many "poutine" options I wanted to try them all. Settled on the Shake the Honey Maker and it was so flavorful and a great portion size. The place was quiet at the time of day we were there, clean and very comfortable booths. Service was a little slow but again I think it was the time of day, but a check in on refills would have been nice. Definitely going back to try a burger or different poutine.

I've been coming to Syracuse for over a decade, for business and when THS opened, it became my favorite local place to eat and have some beers. I've tried a lot of the items on their menu, but recently decided to ask them to join my favorites .. I ordered the Big Lebowski Poutine with fried Chicken and I am happy I did!! I call it the Biggie Lebowski ... stop in, have a cold beverage and the Biggie Lebowski ... you're welcome!

It's been a while since I'd last been but everything is as amazing as I remembered…read more I've seen them advertise their monthly "flight night" events for some time but never actually had been to one. When I saw an espresso martini and cake pairing, I knew I had to pull the trigger. Met up with some friends and we all ordered food beforehand to offset the impending sugar rush. I'd had their naan pizza in the past and loved it, so this time I went with the one that had caramelized onions and goat cheese. AMAZING. Crispy crust, melty cheese, tangy onions and the perfect amount of everything in every bite. Then onto the main event: the flights! The staff brought over our cake and drinks and were so great about explaining what to pair together. (There was also a card) Desserts were a carrot cake with the most impossibly airy icing, a pistachio cheesecake with chocolate ganache, and a chocolate cake with a light nutella icing. I'm usually a carrot cake girlie and while I enjoyed it, the cheesecake was actually my favorite. Just the perfect pistachio flavor and a wonderful consistency -- so, so smooth. Our waitress told us that the owner is the one that makes all of the desserts too. A multi-talented queen. As far as the martinis, my favorite was the affogato one. These flight-nights are one-off events and the items aren't normally on the menu, so if you see one that looks extra appealing, get yourself there! I've been for normal service too though, and honestly, never have had a misfire here. One thing I especially love is the option to order drinks in 5oz pours, a godsend for lightweights like me. Ambiance, food, drinks, all excellent.

We were promptly seated and ordered glasses of wine while perusing the menu, which is on the smaller side. That usually means everything on it is rather good, so we had high expectations. We started with the Mushroom Toast, Ember Roasted Carrots, and Beef Tartar. I'll start with the bad and finish with the good. The Ember Roasted Carrots were a complete miss. They were trying to go for a middle-eastern flavor, with each ingredient contrasting, while the carrot served as the centerpiece to flavor. I found this to be INCREDIBLY bland. The carrots were not salted enough during roasting and lacked enough char. They dish also needed more labneh than it was served with. It literally just tasted like carrots and yoghurt. Honestly, if I could only give one critique it would be to have used more salt, but this dish was a real disappointment. The Beef Tartar suffered from a similar issue. It was bland. Not enough salt was used. It unfortunately tastes like flat beef. I overheard the bartender talking to another couple and he told them they really want to highlight the ingredients. The idea is purity or something like that. And that's well and good, but you still need to season beef tartar. I don't think this is necessarily a poor execution of the dish(es) rather this is more in line with the philosophy of the kitchen, and that's fine. It's just not for me. And now for the good. The Mushroom Toast was great. It had all the things I had wanted. Fat, salt, umami, freshness. This was a good dish and I would get this again. As for the entrees, my husband and I ordered the Cappelletti and the NY Strip. The Cappelleti was the strongest dish of the night. The flavors were layered and intentional. This was a great dish and I1000% would get it again. My husband ordered the NY Strip along with bone marrow. It was cooked to perfection. Cooking it over a wood fire gave it a great char and almost Smokey flavor. It was very flavorful. The chimichurri made the steak feel lighter than it actually was. My husband loved it and I loved having a bite or two of everything together. This was a complete dish and I'd highly recommend it. The only knock I could give it is the bone marrow. There was a lack of volume in it which is probably due to being cooked over a wood fire. Parts of the bones were also over roasted. I'd skip this the next time and get the foie gras pate. Lastly, for desert we were disappointed that we could not try the rice pudding as they were out of it (we will try it the next time if available). We did however order the Flourless Chocolate Torte to share. It was made perfectly. It was rich and decadent but remained light. It was almost like a mousse, but not quite. We loved it. Overall, the had a great time. There were several highlights and I think they make up for the a couple of the earlier dishes. I'd like to see what else they have to offer when they change their menu.

We arrived a little early due to the lack of parking in downtown Syracuse in that area, and because it was very windy and cold that day, so we didn't want to have to walk a long way if we didn't have to. What luck- we found a good parking spot. Eden is tucked away and you really have no idea it's there in a row of restaurants/bars unless you know it's there. Once inside, it's a small restaurant seemingly perfect for an intimate and romantic dinner. Dry aged beef is on display when you walk in, showing off their talent and skill here at Eden. The wood fire they use to cook everything is on full display at the back of the restaurant. The wine selection along the back of the bar is extensive. They use ipads as their menu and there is an interactive feature that helps you choose what kind of wine you may like! However, because we were about 20 minutes early, we were seated at the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. We were told the owners wanted a favor, so their friends came and were using our table. 40 minutes passed and we were finally seated at our table. And then forgotten about for another 25 minutes. We were not given a menu, but we had luckily seen one online and at the bar briefly before it was taken away for another table that got seated. We had to ask that table for the menu back so we could look at the wine selection while we waited. When the waiter, who had seated us at the bar and was well aware of our existence (same person in every interaction for us thus far), finally came over asking if we knew what we wanted, we answered quickly so that we wouldn't be forgotten about again. We decided to share some apps, and share a dry aged ribeye. Mind you, this is not on the menu. Nor was a price mentioned to us at any point during this ... let's say, encounter. We were asked if we wanted the 25 or 29 oz steak. We were sharing it, so we said 29. What do we know? Later, the appetizers/small plates came out. The beef tartare was subpar, barely seasoned and very dry. The best bite was the pickled vegetable on the plate however it completely overpowered the flavor of anything you ate with it if you were attempting to eat it with the tartare. The lentil small plate with fried haloumi was the start of the small plates. My friend hadn't had haloumi, and she loved that part! The dish was a bit plain though, it really needed some acid so it was made a better bite if you took some of the pickled veg from the tartare plate with it. The braised short rib was... meh. Literally my favorite thing of all time, braised short rib- I thought it would be a sure winner! Unfortunately I was sorely mistaken here. The polenta/grits (I can't remember which it was) was undercooked and lumpy, and there were so many fried shallots that it hid the beef! It was, however, a perfectly cooked medium egg (which I can never find anywhere I go for breakfast...) and that seemed odd like it needed to be a runny egg. We were then given a nice light salad as a pallet cleanser as we waited for our main dish. Then comes the steak. Turns out we don't like bone marrow. That isn't their fault. It was roasted well, but it was a texture thing for us, lol! The steak was beautiful on the outside, but it needed some salt since it came pre-sliced, it really needed some Maldon salt or something. We asked for medium rare and it was medium and medium well towards the end pieces. The smashed potatoes underneath were delicious, though. The cookie for dessert with the panna cotta and blueberry topping was my favorite part of the whole meal. The lemony buttermilk cookie against the blueberry sweetness and the acidic panna cotta- it was delightful. Here are the memorable negatives of my experience: - because we were never told the price of the steak, we were literally shell-shocked to see the bill say that the Ribeye was $108. - besides being seated and then forgotten about, we were seated on the bottom level just under another large table of about 13 people. These people were watching the Buffalo Bills playoff game on their phones (I think?) and were being EXTREMELY LOUD at what I believe is supposed to be an intimate restaurant. I hate to say that I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I have heard so many good things. But.. just no. Neither myself nor my friend would ever return. And while the restaurant did comp the small plates for us as a 'sorry', I don't think they really understood just how many things went wrong despite our attempts to communicate them.
