The place was cute and clean. Our waitress was, meh. We order three meas, 2 burgers and one lobster roll. One entree we had ordered, we wanted the pountine fries as an upgrade. The place wasn't really busy tonight around 5pmish, yet the food took about 40 mins to get to the table. Once our food arrived, we noticed the upgraded fries weren't caught by the waitress. The waitress did correct it but by that time, we were pretty much finished. The sizes of the burgers were on the smaller size and the fries came neatly measured in a metal cup, but not full. The fries were tasty. My boyfriend and I stopped here with no expectations, mostly we both just usually go to the same spots and we were looking for something different and away from crowds. We stopped here and were seated instantly at a very comfy and roomy booth. Our server was great as well, I don't remember her name but, truly she was on top of it. We ordered some drinks over the course of our meals as they have a plethora of drinks to try! Their flavor notes to describe their drinks were very helpful to figure out what you'd like and our server was very helpful with making sure we got what we wanted! Stopped by The Hops Spot on a recent visit to Syracuse and it was excellent! The interior is boldly decorated with wood floors and dark tables and booths. It's a great casual place to hang out or watch a game. There's also a game room in the back which we didn't get to see as there was a private event going on at the time. Both our hostess and waitress were stellar. Our waitress had a table of 8 with 5 different checks, didn't write anything down, and just nailed every order. She also had fantastic suggestions. I ordered "The Burn Notice" burger and it was fantastic! Just the right amount of heat, great flavor, their fries are really solid as well. They have a vast selection of beer, ales and IPAs and you can choose any four of them to make a flight. It comes in a wooden holder with your choices written in chalk. Really awesome! I forget the name, but try number 20, it's fantastic! My daughter recently moved to Syracuse and when visiting, this will be a regular stop. I can wait to try more. read more

Our second visit during this year's parent's weekend was even better than the first visit about a year ago. The ambiance was the same and the service was great. We took my son and his 3 roommates to dinner. We tried a variety of items that were different from last year. We had the spinach - artichoke dip with chips and pita along with the maple bbq and Thai chile lime duck wings. The wings were outstanding. My wife had a take on a Reuben made with turkey and I had a bacon burger with fried bacon and bacon aioli. Neither are on the menu shown on the website. Look for them and you WONT be sorry. I also had two 10 ounce pecan Kringle stouts (12% ABV)...holy crap was that good. The quality of the food and service was a little better than last time. Keonte is an awesome server on top of everything and no feeling of being rushed. Smiling attentive and clearly loves what she does. The poutine was a bit smaller than when we last came but still delicious salt and vinegar with ranch dressing. The chicken classic is tender and works well with the carmelized onions, cheese, aioli and pretzel bun. Birthday celebration for hubby. It's a little hard on Mondays because so many places are closed but I knew he'd enjoy The Hops Spot in Armory Square. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm so we decided to sit outside. It is so nice that their outdoor seating is covered. There were sits in the shade as well as in the sun. We started with some brews....a pilsner, a stout and a sour. They were very enjoyable and their selection cannot be beat! 20+ taps !!! Our server was excellent, checking in on us and helping with questions. Service was pretty quick and everything arrived hot. Our friend declared his poutine extremely good, and my burger and my husband's were delicious. Approx 8 oz, perfectly cooked and juicy. My husband had fries and I love that I could get a salad instead of fries for no extra charge. It was not large, but it was a perfect size for a side. The hops spot is a great place to grab a bite and a drink downtown. I will forever mourn their deviled eggs, which was my favorite appetizer until it was recently removed from the menu. Luckily there are still so many tasty items to choose from. My favorite appetizer is definitely the spinach artichoke dip, it's dangerously cheesy and magnificent. I highly recommend it with tortilla chips. There are so many poutine options, and each one I've tried has been a hit. My two favorites are The Big Lebowski and Remember the Alamo. The drinks are also outstanding, both cocktails and draughts. My favorite cocktail is the watermelon mule, it's the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. As far as draughts, I'm not a beer person but they always have a multitude of ciders available as well, and occasionally hard seltzers. The selection changes constantly, so there's always something new to try. I love the weekday and daytime ambiance, which is very chill. It can get a bit wild on weekend evenings, which isn't my speed but is definitely someone else's. The servers are always kind and helpful, and food and drinks are brought out expediently. This downtown restaurant has some really good things, as well as some pretty strong drawbacks, so I'm not saying it's 3 stars because it's mediocre, I'm saying it's 3 stars because it's a mixed bag. Quality of the food depends. The $18 salad was a plate of iceberg lettuce with a few scraps of cheese thrown on. The salad was the biggest disappointment. On the other hand, the classic poutine was bang on. Great ratio of gravy to fries, everything was nice, all the flavors were right. But the rest of the poutines have too much quality variation, which is unforgivable for a place advertising their 12 different kinds of poutine. None of the other flavors were nearly as good as the classic, with combos that didn't work. The burger was tasty. However, it was supposed to be medium and it was very rare. The beer cheese pretzel was also disappointing. The cheese had been cooked too long, or maybe microwaved, because it had seized and was very coarse and mealy. The amount of cheese was also not enough for the pretzel. Service was great. No complaints about any of the waitresses or hostesses. Overall, a fine place near downtown to get a classic poutine and an artisanal beer. Stay away from everything else. read more

We stopped in for late afternoon drinks on Christmas Eve. We passed so many establishments that were closed we were happy to find an open door with many patrons inside! They are sporting a vast selection of Beers, plus full bar. We enjoyed a variety amongst the four of us between a beer, rose wine for me, martini, and whiskey sours. Was a nice place chat and catch up pre dinner, reminiscent of earlier years at the former PJ Dorsey's. Sports bar ambience that is child friendly. Our company had our Christmas party here in the back room. It was nice to have our own separate area and bar. There were board games, corn hole, bocci, and retro video game console available to us. The bathrooms were in a hallway near us but discrete that we didn't see other patrons going in. One of the appetizers I had wanted to try were the Duck Wings. I got to try a wing and it was good. I used the coleslaw I had from the chicken dish and added it to the burger. The fries were good but not the best I've had. 9/10 Service: very fast despite being the restaurant being packed with people. 10/10 Ambience: very nice, wasn't too dark and had nice decor. Loved it here! I was looking for a lunch place and hadn't been here yet. We ordered two salads and tea; all of our food was ready quickly and was very fresh. The portions were huge. I finished my salad; but, it was very large. I would definitely come back here again to try more of their food options. There was plenty of seating at the bar; the booth seating area is very spacious, and there is an area in the back to play games. I can't say anything about the food because I only stopped in for a drink, but I can comment on the ambiance. The front of the establishment is a room full of tables for dining in and the bar has a huge selection of beers on draught. The back is a giant game room, complete with TV's, bocci ball, darts, etc. The bar in the back only serves cans and bottles. We made our way to the back after grabbing beers from the front. It was definitely nice inside and I'd like to try the food the next time I'm in the area. As far as service, I'd say it was good. Nothing exceptional, but everyone was polite and friendly and poured a good beer. Overall, a very nice spot with a good selection of beers. The Hops Spot provided us with a perfect meal! It's a nice space with a bar front and center and plenty of seating all around the bar and the entire restaurant. Our server was kind and attentive, with service being quick and easy. I ordered the Black Cherry Cider and it was wonderful. They have a wide variety of alcohol to choose from so you'll easily find something to your liking. Our food really was perfection, the Health Nut Salad with Chicken was fresh and flavorful. The Tex Mex Burger was a perfect medium rare with a combination of flavors and toppings that pleased my palate aplenty. The fries were well seasoned and there was no evidence left of any food ever being on our plates. We can't wait to go back and try so much more as the menu has so much to offer. When I talked amongst my party, they kept telling me to stop being impatient. Eventually the server came over and said "the kitchen lost our ticket". Just be honest. You forgot to ring in the order... I had the Wac Arnold burger which I really enjoyed. It came with fries which were fresh and delicious. They have a large beer menu which is great but about 4 different beers that my friends and I ordered were not in stock. It got a little annoying after the second time. This is one of my FAVORITE spots in downtown cuse. The burgers are some of the best I've ever had innnn myyyy lifeeeee! It's just so hard to choose because they have SO many options. The fries are always 10/10 as well. They have a poutine menu with several different variations of what i call POUTINE MAGIC! I also love their selection of beers/ ciders. Soo many different ones on tap, and they offer flights! The crowd is always chill and the bartenders are great. Huge wrap around bar so it's a great spot to meet up with friends for a bite and drink.
