The exceptional customer service I received was not just a one shot deal. I had to return later to get something else and I received the same service. There is plenty of off street parking and the store is well stocked with hardware items. The displays were nicely done. I thought the prices were reasonable.

My mother has been a loyal customer of Stewart's Ace Hardware in Clinton for over 7 years. She…read morerecently purchased a $900 Weber natural gas grill (Spirit S-425), believing it was fully stainless steel like her previous Genesis model. There was no floor model to inspect, and she trusted the store's description and history. When the grill arrived, it had only stainless trim, no wheels, and was clearly not the heavy-duty model she expected. She declined delivery politely and even offered to pay the price difference or use gift cards to upgrade to the better model. They refused. Instead of working with her, they issued a refund--and then left her a voicemail telling her never to shop there again. Their own voicemail admitted it was a "snafu" and they "don't normally sell natural gas grills," but punished her for not accepting a downgrade. This wasn't about being difficult. It was about being fair. After over 7 years of loyalty, this was their response. If this is how they treat long-time customers, I encourage others to think twice before shopping here.

Ya know that little key fob you have for your car's key-less ignition?  Well there's a little disc…read moreof a lithium battery in there that doesn't last forever. And when it starts to wear out (if your car is like mine) you'll hear an angry beep and a flashing dashboard icon when you start up the car -signifying the end is near. So that's the reason I took my key fob into Carr hardware today, bought a 2-pack of the needed Energizer 2032 Lithium batteries (just $5.99), and saw the young man behind the counter pry open the tricky storage compartment on the fob and pop in a new battery. No need to go to the dealer and pay that big hourly labor rate. Carr did it for free. Seriously, the customer service was tremendous. As I walked around the aisles, I was greeted by three very friendly and courteous employees who asked how I was doing and could they help me find anything? The store is very cool, with all sorts of paint, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, garden, barbecue, and home supply gizmos. What a great alternative to the Big Box guys -go support local !!

Asked the male employee to complete the return section of their form, and to provide me with a receipt/documentation of the equipment's return. Employee flat-out refused to do either. Somehow it is OK to document the rental equipment leaving the store, but not its return. I did not expect to be in negotiations with this employee for such a simple request. At one point still without a receipt being provided, the employee stated to please leave the store, never come back to this store again, never buy anything here again.
