If you beat on those day after day, they will probably break. But for a homeowner how needs to use a tool a few times a year, that's perfect. Harbor Freight is perfect for tools for a casual DIY-person where longevity and precision isn't paramount, or if you just need an extra set of things to keep in the car or at some other second location. I buy elsewhere for things I'll be using a lot, particularly electric tools, but I have a fair deal of HF stuff as well. That being said, the deals on electric tools are hard to turn down at times. A reciprocating saw for $20-30 on-sale? A right-angle drill (for narrows spots like joists) for ~$100-$125 on-sale? (A Dewalt would run you $400). I also bought my mechanic's creeper and jack stands there. The creepers are on-sale several times a year for $20. Not amazing quality, but good enough for non-commercial use by someone of average size. Consider signing up for their email campaign - they send item specific coupons weekly or so, plus usually a generic single-item 20-30% off coupon for items that aren't marked down. There's a hint of "always on-sale" going on at HF, making the prices seem better than they are, so you may buy something that was "on-sale" only to see it truly on-sale (for less..) the following week. read more

I don't expect top-notch quality or service from a place like Harbor Freight. It's a handy place for tools that you may need for a single project and don't expect to hold up over time. No surprises. The reason for my low rating is the staff at this Vernon store. They really scraped the bottom of the barrel to find the women at the registers. They know nothing about the inventory and give you the distinct impression that, even if they did, wouldn't tell you. Two were in action while I was there, talking across the customers about personal things. One had to go to the bathroom (I'm surprised she didn't say whether it was #1 or #2) and complained that she was only waiting on one more customer before leaving on a break. A young guy in line, trying to lighten the mood, told her that she could take a break any time she wanted. She just looked at him with an expression of contempt. When it was my turn at the cashier, I got the "blonde", who announced to her coworker that she was in a bad mood. She shoved the credit card receipt at me and said, "You're gonna sign this." I couldn't resist. I said, "'You're gonna sign this?' Is that how you do it now?" She just sniffed. I guess HF is banking on the idea that people will continue to buy there no matter how unpleasant the employees are. read more

So.Many.Things! I find it hard to not want to buy everything when I'm here. Why? Everything is so damn cheap. This is the Aldi of tools. Cheaper quality = cheaper prices, ideal for the bargain hunter. Speaking of bargains, they ALWAYS have some sort of sale. With brands you've never heard of, all of the products are exclusive to Harbor Freight and can be had with the many coupons available in the newspaper/email newsletter/website. I want to emphasize the lack of high-end tools and equipment to tool users. For better or worse, if it wasn't for their unbeatable hand-tool lifetime return policy, I don't think I'd be here so often. I haven't had experience with any of their power tools or pneumatic air tools but wouldn't hesitate to try them since their limited lifetime warranties applies to these too.
