This business has great selection, low prices, and great labeling for the isles. They had had exactly what I needed.

Star Hardware is a testament to how things used to be and how there is no room or need in small town America for the big box stores that bring very little value to the smaller communities across this country. Where can you go to get your window screens repaired, keys cut and your propane bottles filled while you wait and a place you can carry on a conversation about your home project with an employee that really understands what you're talking about and can offer real solutions and short cuts that will save you time, money and a lot of frustration and ask you about your family or a local event you both attended. I've been to this location many times and have yet to be disappointed. This friendly hometown store is not only convenient with competitive pricing, it gives back to the local community so the dollars you spend here benefits the local schools, community programs, community sports and clubs. Buying local isn't just about doing the right thing it's about keeping the right things alive in your community.

Review Summary... Nice people, good selection, check the…read morehours before going, be prepared for a slight markup. Slightly more detailed... Overall the selection is pretty decent...it is nice to have a hardware store of this size in the area (It's significantly bigger than the Ace on 44 in Bolton). Their hours are quite limited, and have often left me running all the way to HD or Lowe's in Manchester for impromptu weekend warrior work...so definitely check their hours or call before showing up. Prices are also a tad high (maybe 5-10% on most things I have bought), but I easily save that in time and gas (when they're open). The parking lot is huge if that's a concern, so feel free to bring a landscape trailer if needed. The people working there are all generally nice, and have helped me load my vehicle with cold patch bags, etc. on more than one occassion.

As others said, the people are nice. However, going there is a gamble. I've left empty handed many…read moretimes and ended up making the trip to Manchester. The store itself is a time capsule from the mid 90's. Check out takes longer then it should because they haven't updated their debit/credit card reader in 25 years. You sign a paper receipt. Update for God sake! How much is a chip reader? Think of the unrealized savings on register tape, pens and time. Kidding aside, I only go there if I'm confident they're going to have what I'm looking for. We're talking rope, a hammer, can of spray paint or an extension cord. Anything else, I'm going to the Depot.

HOWEVER... delivery was scheduled... the driver called at 11:45 to tell us they would be there in 20 minutes. At 12:00 I received a text stating "they could not complete our delivery" and someone would call to reschedule. WHAT?? Well apparently, due to a storm, there was a tree down on a street in our neighborhood (not ours) and the drivers chose not to detour the ONE MINUTE it would have taken them to go around the block. They just called 15 minutes earlier... they couldn't call me back??? I immediately called the delivery number they gave me and was told the drivers could NOT turn around, and the next delivery date was several days out. I went above and beyond to prepare for this delivery... even putting the old refrigerator right by the door for them. The drivers must be in the business of losing money for the company... after this debacle we immediately cancelled the order and purchased elsewhere.

They call you with an automated call, which is supppse to give you half an hour to be on site, and then they might come as quickly as 10 instead and will insist the customer handle it and push to let them drop the skid somewhere undesirable... and when they say curbside, they mean "Bottom of the driveway" and if you aren't here fast enough too bad, enjoy hand bombing stuff an extra time in 90 degree weather. The staff is vigilante, ready to defend the errors that their drivers or staff make. They will try to make you feel like you don't know there policy and procedures well enough, even when you have been going to them for years. Not only will you still be super mad by the time the conversation is over, but nothing will be rectified and they will keep making mistakes and putting the blame on the customer.
