Carr hardware is the real deal. Every visit there I am pleasantly surprised by their incredibly high level of customer service. There seems to be an expert there for all needs that is happy to give you his full attention to your needs. I feel like it must be how things once were before the age of big box Home Depot's, that just know how to give you the run around. I made my first purchase (Stihl lawnmower) at Carr Hardware in August 2025 and was provided with incorrect information by the former manager Mark. I bought this lawnmower from them out of desperation since no other store in Connecticut had one available and our old lawnmower died. Reached out recently and spoke with the new manager Darán who was trying to rectify the situation. Since I couldn't go into the store when he would be available (I live 40 minutes away) he referred me to speak to the assistant manager Dillon. Dillon is one of the RUDEST person I've come across with. He needs serious customer service training and etiquette. i won't be shopping there again! read more

Great store, great selection, wonderful employees. This little gem of a hardware store is stocked with many useful items. We've had quite a bit of storms, and very icy condition. No rock salt/ice melt around EXCEPT this very thoughtful place had an employee pick up 3 pallets from their other location (not close.) I stopped counting at 65 people in line (not including the 12+ people who bought plain rock salt.) Employees were very hard working, courteous and I cannot say enough about this place. Ya know that little key fob you have for your car's key-less ignition?  Well there's a little disc of a lithium battery in there that doesn't last forever. And when it starts to wear out (if your car is like mine) you'll hear an angry beep and a flashing dashboard icon when you start up the car -signifying the end is near. So that's the reason I took my key fob into Carr hardware today, bought a 2-pack of the needed Energizer 2032 Lithium batteries (just $5.99), and saw the young man behind the counter pry open the tricky storage compartment on the fob and pop in a new battery. No need to go to the dealer and pay that big hourly labor rate. Carr did it for free. Seriously, the customer service was tremendous. As I walked around the aisles, I was greeted by three very friendly and courteous employees who asked how I was doing and could they help me find anything? The store is very cool, with all sorts of paint, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, garden, barbecue, and home supply gizmos. What a great alternative to the Big Box guys -go support local !! read more

My favorite hardware store, bar none. All the reasons I hate Home Depot, are the reasons I love Carr's. The people who work there from the manager, Mark, through the sales staff, know where everything is and will walk you to it. They are friendly, professional, and helpful. The store is big enough to have a few of just about everything but not so big that you put 3000 steps on your Fitbit just to find and buy a few items. Recently I took my gas grill in for them to check why the burner wasn't working. The manager immediately assessed the problems, fixed them and sent me on my way with a working grill. And as an added bonus they laugh at my bad jokes. Shout out to Nick. read more

I embarrassingly brought an Ace hardware coupon to this location and the store manager chuckled and honored the coupon. He later clarified that this location was not an Ace hardware affiliated establishment but that he would still like to keep my business. I insisted on paying full price, but he wouldn't let me. Yesterday morning I went to Walmart to buy a lightbulb. I got home and it was the wrong size. So, I decided to go to Carr hardware where I knew somebody could help me and I wouldn't make that mistake twice. In fairness, I overheard them telling someone someone had called out sick. But was really disappointing was the lack of customer service I got, even with short staffed. After patiently watching a man help a woman for probably 10 minutes I asked him to show me where my light bulb was I had the old one in my hand. He held it and gave it back to me. He took me to the lightbulb isle and said it's somewhere on the bottom row. Why he couldn't take it at the extra minute to show me which one it was, I'll never know. Apparently my bulb is a very old bulb and so none of the ones looked like it although one of them worked. So as I went up to the register I had my two top contenders and the gentleman at the register, who is very nice, told me which one was correct. So, while I went for The service it was self serve only. read more

I thought this would have a more "mom and pop" feel but they treat you just like a number and don't provide anything better than a big chain would. I've also heard workers talking very poorly about other customers, including some vulgar language. Sad I ever spent thousands of dollars here but I'll never return. read more

I like this place a lot for three reasons. One, It's not Home Depot. So I don't have to walk 4 miles to the plumbing section, only to get lost in the upside down trying to find a shower curtain. Two, the people there are always willing to humor you when you ask dumb questions like, "what do you mean how many amps? I just need a new outlet." And three, their prices are fairly equivalent to the big box stores like Wal-Mart and Lowes. I mean, riddle me this. Would you rather spend 10 minutes and $20 dollars knowing you got the right equipment because someone there who knows what they're talking about helped you out, or...spend 45 minutes and two less bucks on the same thing that you actually don't even know it's what you really need. read more

Kept the store open for me when I called desperately needing a gas dryer connection. Appliance store up the road didn't have a thing and Carr had it all and the manager was all over what I needed. Great staff who are very helpful and knowledgable. Tons of products and inventory. Much more product and inventory than the hacks whom previously owned the old store. I've been here for the last several weekends and proud to patronize my local hardware store so I no longer have to travel to Canton (Ace Hardware) or Bristol (Home Depot) because Carr Hardware is so close and convenient. absolutely terrible service, small businesses like this want you to buy local and not with big boxes but they do not think they have to treat you right. They think it is an obligation no matter what. Well this company is not worth the effort. When i called their pittsfield mass head quarters i heard crickets. Thank you but no thank you. Excellent customer service. They might have prices that are a little more than the big box stores but they more than make up the difference in service and customer care. Actually they saved me money and time today for suggesting a part to fix an exterior door lock today. I thought I had to buy a new dead bolt and lockset combo but they had a Schlage replacement part that resolved my issue. Saved me the cost and time of installing a new lockset and dead bolt. Not to mention the new spare keys I would have to distribute to family members. The manager(Charles) is the best. You will have all of my business going forward. Thanks again Ed G read more
