I am writing this review because I am extremely disappointed with the way my return was handled and with the level of customer service I received from Store Manager Muffin. I am an Elite Home Depot customer and have spent a significant amount of money with the company over the years. This is not my first purchase, and I have generally had positive experiences with Home Depot. Unfortunately, this experience was the exact opposite. I had ordered materials for a deck and awning project, including 63 boards totaling approximately $1,500. The materials were delivered to my home, but I ultimately did not need them and wanted to return them for store credit. Before coming to the store, I called and explained the situation. I was told to come in so the store could assist me with the return. When I arrived, I was helped by Michael and another manager. Both were professional, respectful, patient, and genuinely committed to helping me find a solution. They attempted to locate my order information and checked whether Home Depot had taken a delivery photo of the materials. Surprisingly, there was no delivery photo on file, despite the fact that Home Depot had taken delivery photos on my previous orders. Fortunately, I have security cameras around my property and was able to provide video footage clearly showing the materials being delivered to my home. Michael reviewed the footage and acknowledged that the materials had indeed been delivered. Even though the system limitations created challenges, Michael continued trying to help. He was able to process a partial return and issue me two store credit cards. He explained that the system was limiting the amount that could be returned under my ID and advised me to return with additional identification from members of my household so they could continue processing the remaining return. Following the instructions given to me by Michael and the other manager, I left to gather the requested information. Since the boards were already at the store, I left them there and returned shortly afterward. When I came back, Michael and the other manager were on lunch, which I completely understand. I was then assisted by Lisa. She informed me that Michael and the manager had already advised the staff that I would be returning to complete the transaction. Everything seemed to be moving in the right direction until Store Manager Muffin became involved. The moment Muffin stepped in, the entire experience changed for the worse. Instead of listening to the facts, reviewing the work that had already been done by her team, or attempting to find a resolution, she was dismissive, rude, and unwilling to help. It felt as though she had already made up her mind before even hearing the full situation. The professionalism and effort shown by Michael and the other manager were completely disregarded. What frustrated me the most was the inconsistency. Earlier in the day, I had spent considerable time working with employees and management who were actively trying to resolve the issue. I followed every instruction they gave me. Yet when I returned, Muffin completely changed the direction of the conversation and refused to continue with the process her own team had started. As a customer, it is incredibly frustrating to receive one set of instructions from management, follow them exactly, and then be told something entirely different by another manager. Rather than looking for solutions, Muffin seemed more interested in creating obstacles. There was no effort to provide customer service, no willingness to work with me, and no attempt to understand the situation despite the evidence that had already been reviewed and the time already invested by her staff. What makes this situation even more disappointing is what happened afterward. After being unable to get assistance from Muffin at the Patchogue location, I went to the Selden Home Depot. The management team there reviewed the situation and successfully processed the return, even though the purchase had originally been made through the Patchogue store. That fact alone speaks volumes. The Selden management team demonstrated professionalism, common sense, and a genuine willingness to help a customer. They listened, reviewed the information, and found a resolution. The experience at Selden was everything my experience at Patchogue should have been from the beginning. The difference between the two stores was night and day. I want to specifically recognize Michael, the other manager who assisted me earlier in the day, and Lisa. They were respectful, professional, and genuinely tried to help. They represent the level of customer service that customers expect when they walk into Home Depot. My complaint is directed at Muffin and her handling of this situation. If there is a store I don't ever want to go into, it's The Home Depot. I'm not good at fixing things. I don't know the first thing about home improvement and literally everything at the store is overwhelming. But when my sister said to me "I signed the kids up for the building workshop" I knew I had to do it for the kids. One of the most awesome parent hacks is that most of The Home Depot's have a program where every first Saturday of the month, they have building workshops for kids of all ages. AND ITS FREE! Your child gets an apron and a kit for whatever project that they are doing that day. It also comes with a pin and a certificate for the kids. This was so well organized and the babes had such a great time. And right when I walked in, the staff assisted me on how to find the workshop in the store. Such a great staff. Do not use Home Depot for any flooring project. They use USIG as their installer and if the job is too difficult, they will just walk off. USIG came in and ripped up my kitchen floor said they couldn't do the job because it was too hard and left. When renting a truck from here their pricing is deceptive and the will tack on more charges without your consent. I was asked in the morning if I wanted "damage protection" added for about $21 and I asked what it was and when he told me I said no, I don't want that. When I went to drop off the truck, they added damage protection to my bill. I told the guy I did not ask them to put that on there, he basically said sorry, nothing we can do. Tell me it doesn't sound like they did this to get more money? Rental companies always milk customers for every penny they can get. Still, I will choose another company next time. Hit or miss with the staff. I find the morning crew to be friendly and helpful. I go In often to get supplies for art projects such as lumber. The men working are always helpful with cutting pieces down for me. The pInt department runs smoothly as well. Other departments can be tricky finding help at time. I recently ordered flooring for a small room in my house. It was cost effective for them to come and install. They did a nice job. read more

She didn't have to walk us there, just tell us the aisle if she knew it, and her response was "I'm busy now I can't help you". I promised the staff I was going home to write a review so here it is.....I'm going to start with a positive but after that things get ugly. I was in the " gift card" area and one of the associates said " you look nice; I like your outfit and your shoes." That was very sweet and I proceeded to her checkout area with my gift cards BUT I wanted to pay with cash and well, cash is only " allowed" in a few areas ( the start of the " ridiculousness. " ) I'm told that there is only one cash checkout and it's being used so I should wait for " so and so" at the register. I have her ring up my two gift cards and pay. She prints out ONE authorization so I asked for the other and I'm told " it's on your receipt. " " Actually, my receipt gives a description for the other store but not for " Home Depot," the store I'm standing in right now. I said " what do I give to the recipient?" I once again am told to use my receipt. I decide to go to the " customer service " area and wait. I didn't realize which way the line was running so I hear " Miss Attitude " say " if you're waiting for customer service, the lines over there." The line was not really a " line" but rather one person and I was called rather quickly. I explained that I only got a receipt which doesn't even indicate the name of the store I bought a gift card for and I did not get an authorization. I'm told they can't do anything so I said " this is a very poor system and you should bring it up at your next meeting. " She said " sure" and then I asked if I can have another copy of my receipt so I'd have one for my records and one for the recipient. She said " I can't do that, go back to the person who rang you up." I go back there and she's like " I can't print another receipt." So as I'm standing there, an employee wearing a " Coach" tag comes by so I ask for assistance ( because I have nothing better to do than try to figure out the " Home Depot" systems all night." ) She tells me to go to customer service ( you know, the place I just came from where I got in trouble for being in the wrong area." ) Are you all still with me? This gets better. The "Coach " asks who tried to help me so I point her out and we go back there. The "Coach" asks her to reprint a receipt. She says " she can't " and then run through a list of names of who works there and who could possibly assist. I think Steve was one but he was " doing something else" and there was another who was eating dinner so the associate at the next register said she could do it once she was done with her current customer ( a father and son team who had over 400 dollars worth of returns because they " changed their design.) " I stood patiently and waited. She was taking a very long time and was nice and asked " Coach" to take care of it but " Coach" stated " I don't know how to I think I've only done it once." The other associate said " go to reprint, etc." But it was too difficult so the nice associate said to me " I'll do it, I just need your card." So I said " what card, I paid cash." And she said " oh I can't help you." I kid you not. I am shocked at the lack of customer service skills, their unwillingness to learn, and the fact that they would not go the extra mile to assist a customer. With the way the economy is, they should appreciate every sale and go above and beyond but I found the complete opposite. I used a few choice words and said " I'm going home to write a review" look at that I kept my word. Please feel free to provide feedback if any of my above statements are not true. This company needs to provide better customer service training and improve their poor systems so customers feel delighted after each shopping experience. I am far from delighted and I hope improvements are made in a timely fashion or else I'm sure there will be many more reviews like mine. So, be careful if you purchase a " Home Depot, " gift card, they don't come with authorizations. read more

If this home dept were a puppy, it would fetch the paper for you every morning while looking at you with cute googly eyes and wagging it's tail. The Patchogue home dept is probably the most helpful and organized Home Depot I've ever encountered. Every other aisle I went down someone was greeting me and asking me if I needed help finding something. Really?! This comes as a shock because during a trip to home dept you often have to allot an extra 15 mins to not only find but be able to talk to someone about painters tape or borax or whatnot. Outlets, electrical adapters and other doodads that I needed were fairly inexpensive too. I found everything and was out fast. Parking lot is crowded and busy but to be expected. Park at the end and go for a little walk to avoid frustration. Did you know they offer a vets/military discount program? Good for them. read more

I'm a handy person. Was taught at early age by my father. Been going to Home Depot for decades. From power tools, paint, plumbing supplies, and anything else you may need for home improvement, you can find it here. If you know what item(s) you need, simply look it up on their website (choose you local store), and on bottom of that page, it will tell you what aisle and bin, in which it is located. Whenever I have a question or two about a project I doing, there is always someone who has the answer. A little patience can go a long way. Not every employee can have answers to all questions. The only negative I have, and it's not exclusive to Home Depot, is a lot of stores are implementing self checkout. Not a big fan of self checkout! ... I'm a big fan of Home Depot! read more

Long before covid this place has always been a disaster. Everything you need to do here takes way too long. If you call you get bounced around on the phone system to no avail. If you need paint you have to hunt down an employee to page someone who never shows and if they do theyre overwhelmed because there are one of them and 5 customers who need them. This is just a low star for the claims department.... I bought a John deer e100 April 13th. I rented a truck to get it to my house. I used the John deer ride on two times and the mower belt kept falling off bc it was loose. The belt also has small cracks in it, I guess from not running properly. I called the toll free customer service and they said I should go to the store where I bought the machine from. I went to Home Depot to ask what could be done and , Gregg, the store manager said all I had to do is call the nearest John deer and they will take care of it. I explained to Gregg that's not what customer service told me and he was nice enough to call John deer in calverton and rectify the situation. I was told to call John deer and they would pick it up and drop it off no charge. So I went out in the parking lot and I called John deer only to be told I should go to homedepot and file a claim. I then called Home Depot claim department and filed a claim. I then called John deer to let them know and they picked up my machine two days later.. after a week went by I ask John deer how the lawn mower was and they told me Home Depot never filed a claim and to call them. I then called Home Depot and explained my situation only to be told " ok we will find a place that will service your mower" I explained to them that my mower was already picked up and they are waiting for the claim.. they lady said she would sent a claim out by next day. The next day ( today ) I called Home Depot to " check the status of claim" I was told by Home Depot that my claim can not go through bc I didn't purchase a protection plan and that I would have to pay for any repairs and pick up delivery service. I explained that I used it twice. Home Depot says I would have to complain to the manufacturer... so moral to the story do not by any outside expensive products from Home Depot.... I am utterly disgusted by the run around I am getting. Two more days until memorial weekend and my lawn looks like a jungle!!!! read more

I'm giving them two stars only because they ultimately did the right thing. Not because it was the right thing to do but because they No longer wanted to deal with me. I had bought a planter that hangs on the railing of my deck. Filled it with soil and flowers and was pleased. The next morning it was upside down on my deck, flowers trashed. Imagine my pissed off-ness. So I bring it back today, planter, flowers and soil. The woman at the return counter had no idea how to deal with this. She calls manager and he says because I have no receipt there's nothing they can do. Imagine how livid I was when it happened. Well multiply that by ten when I heard this! I made them summon said manager and oh how the story changes when they have to deal with you face to face. Still got an attitude but they acquiesced. They replaced my hanger and flowers. I typically have no qualms with this store but we just went in to purchase a tank of propane and not only did we wait on line for 10 minutes to just purchase a single tank of propane, but we waited outside for 15 minutes for someone to get us the tank. The cashier said he'd call someone over right when we paid, so we'd expect someone to be on the side with the tank by the time we walk to our car, get in it and drive over ... but nope. The Patchogue? (Bellport outlet) Home Depot is the best I have seen. It is very new and clean. It is much brighter than typical HD's that have that dungeon look nailed down. The design center is located upstairs so it is easy to find specialists in that area ready to help you. You won't get the "This ain't my department" response up there. Associates have no reason to be up there if it is not their area of specialty. The isles are very wide and easy to move lumber and sheet goods around without having to look out for support columns and baby strollers. One of the best features is that no one shops here at the moment (or maybe ever). It is extremely easy to get in, get stuff, and get out. I actually feel bad for the cashiers who look extremely bored with the lack of customers to check out. Sometimes they get a sparkle in their eye and a smile on their face when I coming towards them like they are actually excited that they are going to get to do something. Then I crush their hopes and dreams by veering off to the self checkout. I could not give this Home Depot 5 stars for the following. They do not offer a low cost rental pick up truck like other stores do. Also, I live one town away and they want to charge about $75 to deliver to my home. read more

We can usually find what we need, though they don't have much variety when it comes to lighting fixtures - which we REALLY needed in our new home. We ended up buying some fixture at Lowe's which had much more to choose from. I give two stars because I don't find the staff to be very helpful.
