This is a fantastic family owned business where I buy all my equipment they are extremely…read moreknowledgeable and do not hesitate to educate you on the equipment that they sell you. I purchased a snowblower there two years ago and had a problem when I hit a newspaper that was left on my driveway after a very large snowstorm I was halfway done with my driveway and due to some medical reasons I knew I would not be able to shovel the rest. I explained my dilemma to Joey that picked up the snowblower repaired the problem and had it back to me the very same day at a very reasonable cost since that time we've had four serious snow falls and the machine has been working fantastic thank you so much Joey and the knowledgeable mechanics there for digging me out of a major problem

Would not recommend. I dropped off my dethatcher to have…read moresome work done. When they called to tell me it was ready, the owner gave me an attitude and said he didn't even know why his technician took it in. He acted like it was somehow my fault and then told me to "get this thing out of here ASAP," which I did not appreciate. When I picked it up the next day, I was charged for an oil change and a spark plug that I never approved. They charged me $25 for a spark plug, even though I had just bought one the day before and planned to install it myself. The repair had nothing to do with the engine, so I don't understand why those services were performed without asking me first. I paid the bill and left because I didn't want to argue. After getting home, I noticed a bolt was completely stripped. I called them, and they told me to bring it back. When I returned, the owner looked at it with me, but then the technician who worked on it came out with an attitude and claimed the bolt was already stripped. I know it wasn't. In my opinion, if a bolt gets stripped during a repair, it should be replaced rather than left that way. What really bothered me is that the repair bill was over $400, yet they couldn't be bothered to replace a simple stripped bolt. They had no problem charging me for services I never asked for, but apparently replacing a damaged bolt was too much to do. At that point, I was done dealing with the situation and started to leave. The technician followed me, yelling and asking what my problem was. I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude, and he continued being argumentative. It was extremely unprofessional. To make matters worse, after I got home the second time, the machine would not start at all. Overall, I had a very poor experience due to the lack of communication, unauthorized charges, poor workmanship, and unprofessional customer service. I would not recommend this shop.

After analysis of the situation, he and Kelli understood our plight perfectly and corrected the problem immediately. Moral of the story.....buy local and from a business that listens and helps. I had a mixed experience at Costello's Ace Hardware in Nesconset…read more The woman at the paint counter was excellent. The store was busy, she was helping multiple people at once, and she still provided great service to me while also taking care of the gentleman waiting for his paint. She handled the situation professionally and was very helpful. The checkout experience was very different. I went to purchase lawn seed that had a yellow sale tag, and the tag also indicated Ace members would receive an additional $1 off. Based on that, I expected it to be a good deal. There were two people behind the counter. One person was helping another customer, and the other man behind the counter yelled "next customer," which felt unnecessary given the small size of the store. Maybe he was having a bad day, but the interaction felt dismissive from the start. When I approached, he asked if I was an Ace member, I entered my phone number, and he proceeded to charge me $11 over the sale price. I pointed out the yellow sale tag on the shelf, and he rudely pointed out that it was last week's sale, which could be seen by the 4/28 date in tiny print. Today is 4/29, so I understand the sale had ended, but the sale tags were still up. Honestly, I did not notice the small date, and I relied on the sale sign that was still posted. He did not honor the sale price and seemed annoyed that I even asked about it. I always thought Ace was more customer friendly, but this experience was disappointing. A simple acknowledgment, explanation, or courtesy adjustment would have made a big difference. Based on this interaction, I guess I will have to shop elsewhere.
