I have been a Home Depot loyal customer for over 16 years. Today, I had to visit the Crooked Hill road Commack/ Smithtown location for items that were in this store. I have never experienced an assistant store manager so disinterested with customer service. My husband and I purchased 8 pieces of composite decking for our house project. The 12' boards (which we already paid for) did not fit in our suv. We needed someone from lumber to help us cut 2' off. No one from lumber was available. Alan (who was from a different department) was told by someone on the phone that they do not cut composite decking. I asked to speak with a manger hoping for help. Instead I found myself speaking with an assistant manager named Angelo. Who explained that they do not cut the composite decking because it's plastic and the particles fly in your face. His suggestion to me was to cut it with a hand saw in one of the Aisles myself. After I explained how ridiculous that sounded he told me I can rent a truck for $20! Those were his only two suggestions for me. Thankfully, Alan decided to help us and cut the boards. Although, I left satisfied with Alan's initiative to help us. I was not happy with the customer service from Angelo. It should never be ok to lie to customers because of lack of work ethic. Im not sure if he encourages the staff to avoid machine cutting with these kinds of ridiculous excuses or he is just clueless. I don't plan on visiting this location again. It was my one and only negative experience with someone in a supervisor position or with any Home Depot employee. read more

I had a pretty good experience at this Home Depot recently while looking for a grill for my Dad for Father's Day. I am not a grill person, I cook like crazy, but indoors, zero grill knowledge. I used google to do some research but ultimately went to Home Depots website and looked up highly rated grills blah blah blah. My Dad had an old Weber and I had been told by countless people that Webers were the best so I knew that's what I wanted to go with. Came in and went straight to customer service for some assistance and a guy walked me over to the grills and we took a quick look. He gave me his recommendation and was knowledgable enough about which grill I should get. I went with the Spirit, their cheapest Weber option because I was told it's still a fantastic grill and through all the research I had done, that was what I was gathering as well. They didn't have any in stock and I certainly wasn't going to take the floor model, yeah right. So the guy helped order one from a different store and set me up for free delivery. The process was smooth and easy, he was a great help. Now because I'm a pain in the butt and super indecisive, three days later I changed my mind and decided I wanted to go with the upgraded version, the big dog, the Genesis. I came into the store and making the switch was also, very very easy. This time another gentleman assisted me and told me they had the grills built in the back and that one of those would be the one sent to my house. I was for sure not taking his word for it because as I had seen at other Home Depots, they put the grills out for people to open, mess around with, try out before purchasing if you will and I again, did not want a floor model. I voiced my concern and the guy assured me the grill was set up and wrapped in plastic ready for purchase. He even took the time to bring me in the back and show me for myself, which I really really appreciated. The grill was wrapped up nicely with tape to hold the wrapping in place and once I made my purchase, he wheeled the grill into the back storage area for me so that there was no confusion about whose grill it was. The home delivery was free as they were running a special for free delivery if you buy a grill over, I'm not sure exactly, I think it was $300 or so. So I did that. Since the delivery was free they give you a very wide time frame. I was told the grill would come some time between 6 am and 8pm, something like that. So basically I didn't leave my house all day and this was surprise so I had to make sure I was home. The delivery guys came around 2:30 and wheeled the grill out to where we wanted it. When we eventually unwrapped it there were a few scratches on the front of the grill, I wasn't happy about it but my Dad didn't mind. Little bit of a bummer. Overall my experience at this Home Depot was good and I was definitely dealing with customer service directly for these transactions. One big problem though, getting through to someone on the phone is a nightmare. I tried to reach the customer service desk for, a very very long time with no luck. I called the garden department, no luck, doors and windows no luck, you name it, I called it and no one answered. Probably should do something about that. read more

One of the forklift operators was very unprofessional and disrespectful, I asked him to get two items for me which he responded with "I have someone else to help you know, first come first serve you know, and proceeded to spend 5 minutes explaining why he couldn't, and it would take 20 minutes. This store needs to do better, how is it okay to have a customer waiting 30 minutes to be helped, horrible. read more

Richie over at the paint section seemed more worried about getting rid of everyone on his line rather than helping. A man was waiting in line to get paint but Richie answered somewhere along the lines of get the paint in the back, or check the Home Depot app next time you come so you can grab it yourself. Isn't the point of going to the paint section to get a color so the employee MAKES the color for you? The guy ended up leaving frustrated for the lack of help. When it was my turn, I asked a simple opinion on a paint color on my phone being the same as the one on a sample card (mind you all customers had left, I was the only one in line). Richie responded with "I don't know what's your situation at home, but I'm very busy." I ended up leaving same as the other guy. Honestly made my blood boil since he was talking about being busy yet didn't provide the bare minimum to customers I did enjoy how Richie asked how his service was, and a customer said "Good" then Richie says "Just good? Not excellent?" read more

Today I went to return a $35 item within the 90 days policy with receipt and with the original form of payment in gift card ($15) and credit card ($65). I expected a refund since my credit card payment was more than the returned item but I was given store credit. When I questioned the cashier, Lisa, and told her I did not want store credit, she just told me she is as clueless as I was. I felt berated like a child being told what I'm given and to accept it as it is and was not given any opportunity to rectify whatever computer system overrides they could have attempted. Whatever-I'm sure there's always something to buy at Home Depot, right? I found what I needed and went to pay with my newly given store credit but I couldn't use it because Lisa input my name wrong. I had to go back to customer service and all Lisa can say was "oh well, mistakes happen." This is going to be my issue until my store credit is used up. And after that, I'm sticking to Lowes or drive the extra mile to another Home Depot. One star for Home Depot having the product I was looking for, another star for the African American woman at Returns/customer service who was very friendly. read more

In the past year, I've made several thousand dollars worth of Home Depot purchases. Many of these purchases are items that are available on-line only, and can be shipped to the store or delivered to home. Two months ago, I was in the Smithtown store and made the mistake of buying a car battery there. A few weeks later, the battery failed a load test. As it turned out, the five year old battery I removed from my car performed better on the load test than the new Exide battery from Home Depot. When I went back to the store to return the defective battery, I brought a voltmeter with me and measured some of the batteries on their shelf. From what I measured, these new batteries have been poorly maintained. Also, one of the batteries on the shelf had a sticker showing that it was made in the year 2018. If you buy that one, you are getting a battery that comes with a three year warranty and is already three years old. When I purchased the defective battery, I used an unrestricted gift card that could be used in-store and online. When I returned the battery, I received a restricted, non-transferrable "store credit." It reminded me of a "bait-and-switch" tactic. I tried to purchase a legitimate Home Depot gift card using the store credit, but it wasn't allowed. I expected much better from Home Depot. read more

Careless employees that don't care about customer service!! I guess that's not something new for Home Depot. Asked a cashier to hold my plants that I was going to get something from inside the store. Instead she switches shifts or goes on break, does not tell the guy who took over, and they sold one of my plants to someone else!! That was the only one in the store and no other store (except for online nurseries) has it. Told one of the managers what happened, asked him if I could get place a special order for the same plant. He said he'd call back, 4 days later no call. I call back and they question whether I'm not mistaken because they never had that plant. And that there's nothing they can do. Said they're sorry, that they'll call if they ever get that plant. I doubt both that they'll have it back and that they'll ever call. I understand what's happened cannot be reversed, but they really don't care about it. And it's obvious. I should know better than to waste my time. If you have to shop here, know that they don't care about you or your business, and don't expect otherwise. read more

Super hit and miss. If you get somebody that wants to help, or you flit, you can get everything you need/want and it's a great time. If you get somebody that doesn't want to be there, or can't be bothered helping, then it's a pretty crappy experience. Unfortunately, Home Depot can be a place where you need assistance...It's in the area, it's nice to have one close to home. I'm sure they are all the same. read more

I hate coming here. No one ever knows where things are located in the store. I asked an employee where to find something and they sent me to another aisle. Then, (after going to that aisle) i asked another employee where i could find the item and he told me to go to the garden center. After doing all this and not finding the item I finally go to customer service (hoping they would know) and they sent me to ANOTHER aisle and it was the wrong aisle AGAIN. I left the store and purchased the item on lowes website. Dissatisfied and disappointed. read more

I'm usually the kind of person who knows what I'm looking for and doesn't want any help but good luck finding anyone who isn't hanging out behind the customer service desk. Most of the time the self checkout are the only registers open. Not as nice as the East Northport store but I go here when I don't need any help because its a lot less crowded. read more
