The Hoffman is awesome as far as the vibe, location and ambiance. Unfortunately, my family and I had a terrible experience with ordering dinner on a Saturday night during the winter season. Sat for an hour and a half before the waitress said we could order food, because for some reason the kitchen was on a hold at 6:30 PM. We had a toddler with us so thankfully they made exception and brought the kids meal, but once he finished we were finally able to put our order in. Once we did we waited another 45 mins. We got fed up and went in to inquire about what the additional wait was for and were told to go back outside and wait for the waitress. She never showed back up probably due to being embarrassed so I went back in to speak to them again. The food was ready but my family had already went to wait in the car. I then felt obligated to take the food and they boxed it up. The waitress then brought me a bill for $200 with nothing removed for the nonsense we had just went through. At that point I was pretty pissed and told her I didn't want the food and was only willing to pay for the alch and apps. She then said repeatedly that I said I wanted the food to which I replied I am not paying $200 for takeout. She took the food off the bill after another 20 mins of her disappearing. While waiting for the check we saw her in the kitchen yelling about reselling the food. The waitress was really sweet and we could tell it was not her fault. Could clearly see the kitchen staff was breaking down. We had really high hopes for this place and were talking about it before our visit because we heard such good things. Bad night I suppose. I went there about a month ago when we had one of the first cold snaps of the season. The family and I had been looking forward to visiting again when we didn't have to worry about the fact that there's no AC. As before, the food was great, but we may not be returning because of questionable cleanliness. We arrived when they opened at 11am, and someone was mopping the floors, cleaning bathrooms, etc. When I pulled out my chair to sit, it was covered in food crumbs. I cleared it off myself, and when I sat down, I I could see a number of other chairs around me also had crumbs on the seats. I never saw anyone clean them off the entire time we were there. We ordered an appetizer, and when the young man brought us the plates, they were dripping wet. So, at least I know that had been cleaned, but then later, he brought plates out for a dessert we were splitting, and one of the plates had food on it. The waiter took our glasses back to the kitchen for refills versus bringing a fresh glass or using a pitcher to refill at the table, another sanitary issue. The service was not that great either time we were there, and that is a management issue. The servers are clearly not taught about basics when it comes to serving tables or cleaning. The staff is young and friendly but seem to have very little experience. They have added some covers over the tables on the patio, so at least if you sit out there you're not baking in the sun. And, when we left through the back, the patio was packed with people drinking at the outside bar. But you have to sit on bar stools, and one of our party has mobility issues, so we couldn't really sit out there. Between the questionable cleaning, so-so service (friendly but kind of clueless), and traffic sounds you have to deal with if you choose to sit inside, even the cool weather is probably not going to be enough to bring us back. The food was great, but I need more than that unless I want to just take it "to go." read more

The view is amazing. This was my 2nd..and first was about 2 years ago..Food is excellent. Service was quick. This was a Monday too..weekends can get busy. It's a don't miss if in the area. A cool German spot on the treasure coast. Finally stopped by to try their food. It was a rainy Tuesday so we did not get to enjoy the waterfront by the outdoor bar. We ordered the jager schnitzel (chicken schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce) and the curry wurst. The schnitzel portion is huge, I couldn't finish it by myself. The mushroom sauce complimented the pan fried schnitzel very well. The red cabbage was a good pair with the schnitzel, not so sure about the potato sal The curry wurst has a very strong flavor, which can be good or bad depending on how much you like curry. personally, I loved it. But the fries do not compliment the curry wurst much. If it was accompanied with bread, it would've been better. overall the experience was pleasant. I only ate on thing the Bavarian Stew which I love. It's so delicious on top of the spetzle (sp?). They service can be iffy but that kind of goes with the place. The ambiance is nonexistent but again, you are there for the food. We couldn't get out of this place fast enough after the awful service from the bartender. I always go out of my way to connect with bartenders and make sure they know that they are appreciated, she wasn't having it. The band playing on the night we visited was amazing, hope to see them again at a different venue. I was in Jersen Beach for the first time, for work, and was driving around looking for interesting places I could go to for dinner. There is a huge amount of beachy, touristy seafood places to choose from and I wanted something different. While driving toward my hotel I noticed this boxy little building off to the side by the bridge and all if said on it was "The Hoffman." My interest was piqued. I had to look it up and see what it was. Oooooh! A German restaurant, on the waterfront? Yes, please. Sign me up. My coworkers and I dined at the Hoffman on a Wednesday night in February and we sat outside, right next to the water, under a thatched umbrella and it was delightful, if not a little dark. I started with the Potato Pancake and regretted offering to share with my companions. They were light, just the right amount of seasoning. For my entree I had the Jaeger Schnitzel- pork- with red cabbage and potato salad. It was breaded perfectly and was very tender; a generous portion. I enjoyed every bite of that. My coworkers ordered non-German entrees (why???) and their Fish Tacos and Salmon looked really good too. We were all too stuffed for dessert. The service was great and I can't reiterate enough what an amazing little gem this place is. read more

First timers here, and we love German cuisine so we gave Hoffman's a try and I'm glad we did. I have to say that the inside ambiance needs some work, but the food made up for it. We tried to get a spot outside but it was too crowded. We started our meal with some appetizers. We had the mozzarella sticks and fried Mac and cheese balls, both were delicious. Our main meals, except for one, was schnitzel. Some of us got the chicken schnitzel and some got pork. Soooooo delish! The red cabbage went so well with my chicken schnitzel. The location on the water is a perfect place to enjoy a meal and drinks with friends and family. Beautiful and relaxing. Hadn't been there since before the pandemic wanted to share the experience and good German food with my daughter and her husband. I Looked forward to a traditional German meal but was very disappointed both with flavor and presentation. I did notice The menu has expanded it seemed to be all over the place with various offerings ( mexican, italian, burgers, american bar food etc...) that should have been a red flag but i went on past experience. when the owner found out we didn't complete our meals, he came out only to argue about why we didn't enjoy it. we were met with he's the owner, he's German, and this is how it's done in Germany. Although i don't look sterotypically German it was assumed I don't know German food. I happen to be first generation German (biracial). The encounter was in very poor taste to say the least. No consideration or attention to our experience was given at all. On a positive note, My son enjoyed The non German chicken philly sandwich. To help manage expectations, they should consider changing the restaurants concept from German to mainstream. sadly I'm not sure i'll be back. read more

When I say hole in the wall, I say it with respect to The Hoffmann. It may look like a hole in the wall but I love a great hole in the wall. The indoor dining looks nice but setting outside being right there on the water makes it so much enjoyable. It's been a few years since we've been there. We were greeted with smiles and treated good. The bar tender was busy but handled it well. The atmosphere was wonderful. We split the chicken quesadilla and calamari then and had again this last visit. Came early Saturday and were seated right away. The place was not crowded but filled up quickly. Anastasia was our server. We wanted unsweet ice tea, but were told it was still brewing, OK, no problem, she brought us waters while we discovered their menu. We decided up the bratwurst on a bun, with onions, sauerkraut and mustard. We received our tea, and it was VERY weak. She never asked if we wanted refills. The bratwurst was nice, but the spicy mustard was truly overpowering (and we love spicy food), the kraut was flavorless, needed more 'thang', the onions were unfortunately the same. This dish came with a side of german potato salad. NOT sure who thinks it's german, but there was NO presence of bacon, no zip from the vinegar. They were served cold, we asked for more mustard so that we could put some in the potato salad. Overall I gave them a LOW rating, BUT we would go back to try their dinner specials (but not the potato salad). read more

This spot was such a pleasant surprise! I had my doubts about visiting a German bar in the middle of a beach day, but the scenery on the back deck is beautiful, the vibe is relaxed and the food was excellent! I had the potato pancakes with smoked salmon and everything was fresh and delicious. The German beer my server recommended was crisp and refreshing. She was lovely and we were in and out as quickly as we wanted to be on a Saturday afternoon. Definitely worth checking out! read more

For a nice place to unwind you can't beat The Hoffman ... it's right on the water at the base of Jensen bridge. They have pre good food -but pass on the Mac n cheese balls -they're were flavorless. We visited The Hoffman on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and had a table overlooking the water. This is an important factor since the restaurant was having some serious service issues this afternoon. The restaurant was seriously under-staffed and service was suffering. Our waitress was really hustling and kept apologizing for the slow service. I think the service issues were due to low staffing but I'm not sure if the staffing issues were on the service side, the kitchen staff or both. After a longer wait than expected, we did get our drinks and we had time to enjoy the view. The menu includes a good selection of authentic German beers and it was nice being able to get some good German beer. We ordered a big pretzel with beer cheese dipping sauce as an appetizer and it was one of the best German pretzels I've ever had. The beer cheese dipping sauce was also excellent. For our entrees, all four of us ordered PORK jaeger schnitzel (which is the same as their regular schnitzel but is served with a mushroom gravy on the side). All four of us got CHICKEN jaeger schnitzel - which was excellent. We toyed with the idea of sending the chicken schnitzel for pork - but considering the service issues we opted to eat the chicken and - as I noted above - it was excellent. It is served with sides of German potato salad and red cabbage -- both of which were also excellent. So, based on today's service alone, I would normally downgrade the restaurant based on their slow service. But they did comp part of bill to make up for the service issues and the food was truly EXCELLENT so I'm going to stick with a 4-star rating. read more
