Stopped by here on a weekend with my family for lunch. We ordered the pretzel and each had a meal. At the end of our meal a very nice gentleman paid for our meal! Small waterside bar with indoor seating if you wish, too. The owners are German and they have some great German beer and a few German selections on their menu as well. They used to have some great classics, Sauerbraten and Rouladen, but they didn't have the demand to keep them. However if you want authentic pretzels and kartofelpuffers, schnitzel of all kinds, an excellent burger and some great beer, this is the place. My rating is for hit or miss service and that it's a smoking bar, so sometimes it's bothersome. Parking in front of the restaurant is dangerous, I suggest backing in, or park in the new lot on the circle across the street. read more

I grew up in Milwaukee, one of the most German cities in the U.S. But outside of there, authentic German food is often hard to find. The Hoffmann is a standout! So we wanted to like this place...such cool seating out in the bar area! Right on the water and laid back, beach feel. We definitely loved the view and give the view 5! That's where the good ends for us. The server was unpleasant from the beginning. She seemed annoyed that we ordered a soda and 2 waters. We also ordered a pretzel and mozzarella sticks. The apps came out fast and were ok. The pretzel with mustard stole the show - it's a real Bavarian pretzel and delicious. The "beer cheese" dip we ordered on the side was inedible. it tastes like water with a hunt of cheese. Gross. The worst aspect was the service. We actually went in for Mahi fish and chips! I'd read on a local facebook page that the fish and chips were amazing. So we wait. We wait. We literally waited 1 hour for the server to come back so we could order entrees. When she finally did come back we were ready to leave and she was extremely rude to my daughter, mocking like and said you only ordered 3 things! 1. We wanted to order 3 entrees 2. So ordering 3 items means patrons don't get adequate service? Ew. Hard pass on that attitude and lack of customer service. read more

Sunday 3/3... On our last night in town we came to The Hoffman. I bookmarked 3 restaurants for our recent trip. The criteria was always waterfront dining. They are located at the base of that Jensen Beach Causeway overlooking Hutchinson Island. In summary good German food with a great view. The restaurant itself is smallish in size. Just go and sit outback by the bar. For drinks she had a Pinot noir. I really wanted to try a few different German Hefeweizens but they were out. So a Coors Light fit the bill. Our bartender/server Tonya was very helpful ordering up some local favorites for grub. That said our appetizers were a Bavarian pretzel and potato pancakes. Entrees, for her Bavarian meatballs adding spaetzle. I chose the bratwurst entree adding sauerkraut over roasted potatoes. Just couldn't resist the warm apple strudel at the end. :) Just a note, reservations are highly recommended on the weekend for parties of 4 or more. Prices are pretty reasonable. What a lovely spot for riverside cocktails, The Hoffman is a treasure coast treasure. The service is swift yet casual, the people are chill, enjoying the vibe on a gorgeous Florida night while sipping libations with an incredible view of the bridge. There are a few restaurants in the area within close distance of each other. Kind of a different scene at the Hoffmann last night. An old building situated right on the Intracoastal, so the scenery with the bridge and Hutchinson Island across the way was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was Winter in Florida with evening temps in the 50's. Fortunately, there were heaters set up to watch the band, have a glass of wine or a beer or eat some dinner. The Hoffmann is a beer and wine bar, so we bellied up. My wife had some Chardonnay, which she deemed to be very good for house wine, while I had a Stella. There were German beers on tap, which I will try out next visit. We got a table in the back, where the cool temps and breeze off the water wasn't making me cry. There was a heater next to us and all was well. Started with some Captains Calamari, which also had jalapeños mixed in and is served with marinara. They were cooked well and tasty. For dinner we each had a Philly. Mine was chicken and my wife's was mahi and both were good. Service was very good and the girls were friendly. Overall, a good experience, and we will return to try out their German entrees! read more

We went 1st time, we sat on waterfront patio, such a nice view and breeze!! Our server was Francesca, she was great. I had the pork schnitzel which came with German potato salad and red cabbage. The schnitzel was crisp and hot, very tender, potato salad was yummy too (I didn't know I liked, never have in the past). My husb had the bratwurst entree which he really liked, the crisp roasted potatoes were a hit. Ice tea was fresh. We had the apple strudel came with ice cream and whipped cream. Hidden Gem! Pulled up to this little place on the side of the road that promised German American food. Walked inside to a small seating area was greeted right away. We headed out the back to a good size patio that had a bar, high top tables and counter seating facing the ocean. The best part was the poodle sitting at the bar with a bowl of water! Dog friendly gets me every time. To the right was a beach front patio with larger tables and tiki umbrellas. The left of the bar was more seating on the sandy beach. We ordered a couple of apps. The potato pancakes were tasty and fresh. Crispy on the outside and perfect with the cold sweet applesauce. Dinner served up blackened shrimp Cesar salad and a bacon cheddar burger with fries. The massive burger with extra crispy bacon and the perfectly seasoned shrimp on my salad didn't disappoint. The service, atmosphere and food are unmatched in the area from what I have experienced. Great solid choice for waterfront dining! My husband and I have been enjoying this place for a few years now. We've come with family, with friends, and even with our pugs and everyone seems to enjoy it as much as we do! They do have non-German options just in case someone doesn't go for that, but their German food is delicious. We have enjoyed the Bratwurst entree which is served over sauerkraut and crispy potatoes. It also comes with mustard. We also enjoy the schnitzel, and you can choose whether you want chicken or pork. Comes with a lemon wedge, red cabbage, German potato salad... authentic and yummy! We've also enjoyed their shrimp appetizers, and the German pretzel with a side of beer cheese is also delicious. Service is friendly, and they have live music on occasion. Lastly, but very important.. the BEER! We enjoy the German beers served in huge glasses! Not necessarily a craft beer bar, but there are other places for that. The good: Great ambiance with outdoor seating, patio string lights, right on the Indian River. The patio deck and bar is right off a little beach so you could hear the waves as you ate and drank. No bugs and there was a beautiful breeze on a hot summer night. We ordered the captains calamari and the pork schnitzel. Both were excellent, the calamari was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. Tentacles included which I really enjoy. The pork schnitzel was also delicious. A very thin, large piece of pork fried and accompanied by german potato salad and red cabbage. The german potato salad was slightly vinegary which I enjoyed. The bad: I really don't have anything bad to say about this place. Mostly just an FYI, they do have some indoor seating but it didn't seem like it was air conditioned? If you are wanting to eat indoors perhaps avoid this place. The weird: The women's bathroom was locked the entire time we were there...not sure what the deal was. Did someone accidentally lock the door? Did someone die in there? Only time will tell. The ambiance here is great!! Sitting outside on a beautiful winter night, with no bugs was reason enough to give it a great review. But pair that with a great waitress, super fast service, good food, and good wine what could be better? Our table had an array of food. I had the smoked salmon with potato pancakes. Gosh it was so good. Husband had goulash, and loved it. Kids had Apfelstrudel and they said it was perfect! Would definitely go back. Our friends got (I feel like ) one of all from the appetizers menu m, which was awesome because I got to try it too. The pretzel with the beer dip and mustard was awesome. They also got fried Mac and cheese balls, they were so good. They had like a green pepper in it or something that was so delicious. We asked and found out, they were homemade, and you could definitely tell. It's not a fancy place, so don't go in thinking it's fine dining. read more

If you're craving comfort food with a perfect view, go to the Hoffman. Great beer & food selection. I had the Wiener schnitzel, it was crispy on the outside, yet juicy & tender on the inside. The beets were delicious! The servers were quick, friendly, and very helpful. My favorite part was definitely the view. We came at night during one of Florida's infamous lightning storms. It was surreal. Some guy started setting off fireworks on the beach, which was unexpected and entertaining. This is just a great local spot and a must-try if you're in Jensen Beach. read more

We go here about every 3 weeks.. usually it would be one of our go to favorites.. outside beautiful view.. ok it's a total dump but I like it anyway cuz I like German food the hubs likes German beer. Yesterday the food was off way off. I asked the server is there someone different cooking? Yes there was and they fell very short. Once I asked was the cook German since we go to Germany often and food tastes authentic. They said no Vietnamese but she got it spot on. Yesterday I was told that person works evening afternoons shift. Fyi .. the main plate was like warm as in warmed up greasy. The side dish I usually love tasted well a week old! The birds spit it out! The place is falling apart I couldn't get out of the bathroom and the tables are a mess. Amazing food, always. The goulash and fried chicken sandwich were delicious. The waitress (the only one) was very friendly and efficient. What we DIDN'T like was the woman who sat at the bar for dinner and fed her dog (on her lap) on the bar. So unsanitary. I wonder what the health department would think about that. read more

First visit after reading a pretty good review in the Stuart News -- now I know why the printed word/fourth estate is failing First impression walking in is that somebody can't afford the electric bill or contractors to fix the A/C -- no air conditioning Nice breeze coming off the water -- we sat outside -- same problem with menu printing as the A/C -- they had to be the oldest, worn out laminated menus I've been handed in 10 years -- which is probably how old they were I wasn't sure what I wanted for an entree -- but I was really looking forward to some authentic German potato salad -- I got some chilled, cooked potato chunks with some vinegar and sugar added -- no bacon, no onions -- not the legitimate German potato salad I remember from my youth The pounded, breaded pork was OK -- nothing to write home about -- but the mushroom gravy was just a brown gelatinous blob with no mushrooms My wife's fish sandwich had a small portion of Mahi and a stale bun The server was very pleasant and professional -- the place wasn't very busy -- I'd suggest she get over to Lures, Jan's place, Conchy Joe's or Crawdaddy's -- I know we won't be back to the Hoffman P.S. and oh yes -- advertising a waterfront setting -- somebody might take some time to mow the weeds and cleanup along the waterline read more

Arrived for a late lunch. Bartender informed us to sit anywhere and waitress will be over. Sat outside and waited 10 minutes with no service. Waitress walked by and totally ignored our table. There was a total of 4 other diners who had finished and had to walk bill to bar. Waited another 5 minutes and still no response from bartender or waitress. Can not rate food as we got up and left. German food was the only food we haven't tried since we moved up here. We passed this place a couple weeks ago on the way to another restaurant in the area. We looked it up on yelp and decided to go there. From outside it looks dumpy. We sat on the outside patio. They have hi tops, and a long counter overlooking the water. Outside there are picnic tables with umbrellas and on the side by the entrance to the back there are tables under a tiki type structure. We ordered a beer and it was ice cold. For our meal we both ordered chicken jaeger schnitzel. It was huge. It came with red cabbage and potato salad on the side. It had a mushroom gravy. The chicken was fabulous. The red cabbage was very good. In fact we dipped the chicken in it towards the end of the meal. My husband liked the potato salad. It was ok for me. Maybe because I was getting so full. We decided next time to split the Jaeger schnitzel and get an appetizer. The view is great. It's by the Jensen beach bridge. The service was great. She asked if we wanted dessert. Even though the options sounded delicious we were too full. We will leave room for it next time. The only drawback is the parking. We were there after two so we were able to get a parking space. This was our first time here, it is one of those great hole in the wall places you feel lucky to have found. So thank goodness for yelp! Otherwise I doubt if we would have come here. It is a spot on the river in Jensen Beach, nice water view and a very casual vibe. I ordered the patty melt and it was excellent! My husband had the Jaegerschnitzel , he said the mushroom gravy really put the exclamation mark on it! He said the potatoe salad was ok. The beer was super cold and good.. seating was all outside as far as we could tell, thank goodness for the ocean breezes coming it. This is our favorite place to go on cold days! But it's honestly amazing on hot days as well! We will drive an hour or more to get there just to be on the water and have an amazing family weekend experience. It's nestled right in a little coat on the beach with great views but what makes it special is the absolutely authentic German food! This is the best I've ever had in Florida, hands-down! They have a nice, wide bar selection as well, but I wish they would add a gluten-free option so my daughter would enjoy it more. I can't say enough about the German food and I wouldn't even know where to start but just suffice it to say that we've tried just about everything on the menu and you can't go wrong! If you've been to Germany, or from Germany, you will absolutely love this bar. Even if you don't care about Germany at all, the food is great, the staff is down to earth and fun, and everything is just done right! Definitely worth the trip if you aren't from Jensen Beach, and if I lived in Jensen Beach I'd be there three nights a week! read more

We came here starving and meeting some friends for dinner. When we got here, the parking lot was limited, however we were lucky enough to get a spot out front. We sat outside under a tree and umbrella. The place is pretty as it's off the water. We met our waitress who was slammed tonight as she would say hi, get our drinks and disappear for a while. We ordered an appetizer first then 2 entrees. We ordered the potato pancakes which my wife and I housed. It had no shot. I asked the wife if she wanted more sour cream. She said no because we would finish our pancakes before the waitress came back. So they were delicious. We ordered for dinner the hangover burger and the sauerbraten. The burger was good. Came out well done. My wife asked for medium. I'd go with medium rare. Either way a bit over done. The fries were good but nothing to brag about. Average fries. The waitress messed up the order for our sauerbraten. She brought out a stroganoff or something. So that took another 25 min to get the other entree. Food was good. Problem was the price was a bit much. Burger was 13 dollars which is ok, however the main cost, sauerbraten, was 21 dollars. That was a bit costly. Our total bill came out to 65 with tip so bit much. The outside setting is quite nice. Hubs was happy for a real German Bier on tap. We both had The Currywurst and it was not what we expected. The sausage choice and ragu style sauce did not match what we've had in Germany. The potato pancakes however were excellent! I look forward to returning and trying the schnitzel. read more

This is called a Yelp Review Update. I have been here several times, mostly just for the beer. Which is excellent. The HB lager is wonderful. About as close as you can get without actually going to Munich. But the other thang thang that is really great is the food! Everything is good. Actually made and prepared like they care about what they are serving for you. It's quality. It's no frills.. You won't get the white table cloth and candles and people all over you... but you will get great food. Great place to grab dinner in JB. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! DONT MAKE THIS MISTAKE. We were really looking forward to German beer and food on the water front on a Saturday night around 7pm. Very disappointed...They were out of all German drafts, only had one German beer in a bottle. The server was very inconvenienced by our presence, overall bad manners. I got the one German bottled beer and never offered a second. Our friend's orders came out incorrectly, our beer cheese (it's an upcharge?) was a sad excuse, and the pretzel was still frozen! From a fellow server, this place has an extremely bad moral and it's obvious to see. This place needs an overhaul - possible opportunity for a new owner of a water front restaurant if someone wants it. Avoid. read more
