Look no further!!! The Hideaway is a Freakin 10. Drove 35 minutes from So. County Md after seeing a IG review. The service was excellent and it was crowded for a Thursday evening. Waiter Josh was EXCELLENT and on us from the moment we were seated. Wanted to eat the entire menu, but was focused on a few menus items. Had the Brisket Egg Rolls and the Blueberry Chipotle wings as an appetizer. Brisket Egg rolls and the dipping sauce (sweet with a spicy kick) was off the charts amazing. The wings were as advertised, (8) cooked perfectly with a Blueberry Chipotle coating (WTAF!!) Never had anything like this with ranch dressing. You'll be shocked at the taste. Tried the Brisket Rueben and the Ultimate Pulled Pork sandwich. Both served with a side of your choice: Parmesan truffle fries. Home run for both sandwiches. Large portions. The Brisket Rueben was a spectacular taste and with the Russian dressing, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and rye which sent me to Flavortown. Pulled pork also home run. Barely finished it all and went home with leftovers + a piece of the Pecan pie which was also a hit with the family. Excellent crust, moist and very nutty. How could you not at least strongly like The Hideaway? It's a cool neighborhood gem. The restaurant name has a literal meaning because it really is hidden away, off the main roads down some side street. However, once you find it and battle your way into a parking space, you'll be in for a treat. The Hideaway serves BBQ but one of their most popular menu items is the smoked fried chicken. Picture this: they take half a chicken and smoke it on the smoker and before serving it to you, they toss it in the fryer for good measure and nice crispy skin. You may very well leave addicted like I was. I also really love their wings which I believe are cooked in the same fashion as the smoked fried chicken. And trust me, those naked wings are finger-licking good. I also enjoyed their sides as well. The Hideaway not only has good food but they offer different specials and host different events such as buffet menus for certain holidays and Karaoke on Friday nights. I've dined in once and ordered takeout once. During my last visit, I ordered takeout. When I approached the hostess, I told her that I ordered takeout so she sent me to the bakery area to pick up my food just for the bakery to say they're closed and I had to pick it up from the bar. Tried this place for the first time and I can tell you, no disappointment whatsoever! From the friendly fast seating at 3:45pm on a Saturday to the warm welcome by our waiter Cameron. He made great recommendations so we tried the wings, the ribs, and the humongous baked potato with pulled pork, onion, and cheese. It was perfect for three people! Of course it doesn't hurt to try the baked goods and ice cream you pass on the way to the dining hall. Very clever. We couldn't leave without trying the apple pie a la mode. It was heaven!! Everything was delicious and the drinks were outstanding too. I probably would recommend doing a twice baked potato but that's just an idea. I'm sure it would be just as delish! They are great for local food that isn't the typical chain fare; however, the Fatty Melt quality has gone down a lot. They aren't actually grilling the grilled cheese "buns". It's just a soggy, un-toasted sad mess lately. Pretty sad considering the hype around it. And they got rid of the pulled-pork pirogies. I asked a few times for the recipe but they let it die with the amazing menu option. It's a favorite of out-of-towners looking for something different, but expect it to be loud enough you can't hear the person across from you. The wings and waffled pig are really good. It's a simple little mismatched looking restaurant. Price: I wouldn't say pricey but it's appropriate for what you get. Service: fast no issues, are server looked like she had two party tables and she still handled us fine. Food: I wanted the sampler to try everything but those ribs are so worth getting by themselves, and FYI they are award winning and taste like it. This place is really off the unbeaten trail on a residential street in back of the town center with the Ruth Chris. I called in my order about 40 minutes before I headed out in route and when I arrived my food still wasn't ready. I was hopeful due to the many people filing in and out that the food would leave me wanting for more and as a regular customer. I ordered the hideaway sampler which comes with brisket, 2 wings, pulled pork and 2-3ribs. The wings were the best part. The brisket was dry and lacked seasoning, the pork tough and the ribs were tender but I dislike my meats sweet. You needed sauce for this and I prefer bbq that doesn't require bbq sauce. I know I've reviewed The Hideaway before but I went for lunch today and feel the need to do so again. I worked from home today and was in the mood for one of my favorite little barbecue spots for lunch and decided to make the trek to the restaurant. It wasn't busy at all, I walked right in and was instantly greeted and seated by my waitress Kat, who was super nice, and patient as I decided what I wanted. I decided to go with a cup of the Hideaway's take on chili, which consists of 4 different chili powders, 12 hour smoked brisket, red beans, topped with a tomato sauce. De-licious! From there, I decided to keep it simple and got a second appetizer called Hot Thighs and Fries. Now, if you've not had the Hideaway's pecan wood smoked chicken, I certainly encourage you to add it to your bucket list. I visited a popular BBQ restaurant not too long ago in South Carolina and watched as my co-workers devoured their smoked wings, and they were good... very good, actually. But, as good as they were? They had NOTHING on the Hideaway's version, and that's more of a compliment to the Hideaway than a take away from that particular restaurant. The thighs were pretty small, which is to be expected considering it was an appetizer, but my goodness were they seasoned to perfection with The Hideaway's 7 pepper hot dry rub, and incredibly juicy. They also came with a side of mango ketchup, which wasn't my favorite, as it was a little too tangy for my taste, but I also asked for a side of the blackberry chipotle, which comes with the entree smoked chicken dishes, and man oh man did that do the trick! Let me warn you, it has a little kick, but if you order this appetizer, you'll already be sipping your water between bites due to that dry rub on the chicken anyway, so just go with it. We've been wanting to check out their happy hour, to mingle with staff & locals, but with Covid we'll have to settle for take-out for now. We put in a large family order, and I have to add-my in-laws are usually hesitant to try new eats-since they love their go-tos (like Red, Hot, & Blue), but they were pleased with the massive variety of options to chose from. Everyone was able to easily select something appealing to their bbq cravings. The outside is a tad divey; My father-in-law worried we sent them to the wrong place for pick-up, but the staff was super friendly bringing out the curbside meal-so my family said if the food held up it would be nice to visit them when up and running. The Food: -Hideaway Sampler w/hush puppies & mac n cheese: absolutely delicious; so much meat! The brisket was my favorite-it had an amazing char & was so juicy, moist, and tender it fell off the fork. The ribs were fall off the bone tender & the wings nice and smokey. They put love into marinating and slow charring all their meat varieties. The mac n cheese needed pepper, but the hush puppies were dense, delicious, and full of flavor. -Waffled Pig w. an add-on of coleslaw: If there is one thing I love more than chicken wings, it's waffles, so I'm a bit harsh when critiquing. This was not a great waffle. A cornbread stuffing waffle sounded great, but the execution failed. It was very dry (almost if they pre-cook waffles then reheat when serving them as the bottom of this warm dish). The mashed potatoes were well seasoned, the pork was packed on top, with a delicious gravy, but the waffle really needed to be fluffier, warmer, and fresher to make this a delicious meal-it was just ok (I wouldn't order again)...good coleslaw though -Chesapeake Shepherd's Pie: a very unique take on a typical dish (adding pulled pork, crab, cream, topped with sooooo much cheese). A very hearty meal, eating half of this will make you need a nap. The side of truffle fries were so well seasoned, with truffle oil & parmesan, super filling-no condiments needed -Cobb Chicken salad: the salad was massive, to quote my sister eating it, "I eat and eat and eat and there is still so much left. Best wings ever! Had lunch there with friends and split an order of Buffalo wings with them for the appetizer. The wings are smoked and then "flash" fried. Absolutely delicious with just a hint of heat. Also had the Cobb salad which was topped with the same chicken used on the sandwiches and it was great but I couldn't finish it. From previous experience the collards are good so next Time I will pair these with the wings. That will make a nice sized lunch. The service was very friendly and timely as well. This place is true to its name, as it's tucked away in a neighborhood setting. Very odd placement, but so good! The atmosphere is quaint. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Since this was going to be my main meal of the day I went with the Sampler Platter - pulled pork, wings, ribs, brisket - and fries and Brussels sprouts. I enjoyed every single bite. The brussels were exceptionally delicious and fresh. The meat was smoked to perfection, had the right amount of bark, and was juicy. The taste of the pecan wood is one I've never experienced, but i enjoyed it. There are four sauces at the table, each unique. I enjoyed the House sauce and the Carolina sauce most. I got a sampler, and everything was great, except for the Texas brisket, which was dry and bland. The ribs were seriously the best, so falling-off-the-bone tender and soft and juicy. I was really impressed with these ribs. Pulled pork was delicious, but it's pretty comparable to other pulled pork I've had at other BBQ places, so nothing unique about it. Chicken wings were also great, but I didn't think there was anything really mind-blowing (or award-winning) about them. The Texas brisket was so disappointing--I like brisket as in pulled brisket or pastrami sandwiches, but as in brisket slices served here? Never again. These slices were so dry and hard and bland. I don't understand how people can eat such brisket slices... The side of Brussels sprouts (with bacon, pecans, and goat cheese) was really amazing and is a must-get! The roasted Brussels sprouts were perfectly complemented with sweet crunchy house-candied pecans and velvety-soft goat cheese. Hideaway fries (with truffle oil and parm) were great too, but I'm not a big of fries, so I wasn't exactly crazy over them, as many Yelpers seemed to be. All the sauces were good. Knocked-Up (sweet & spicy) was our favorite, but I enjoyed the Pomegranate (sweet) too. Carolina (a bit too mayo-ish) and Molasses (too cloyingly thick-sweet) were my least favorites. read more
