I've heard so much about this place that I just had to try. There was a lot going on in town and they were extremely busy, but still provided outstanding service. Sadly I didn't try the food, only the raspberry purée, margarita mimosa, and original orange juice mimosa. It was hot outside so we only came for a drink. My next visit I'm definitely trying the food.

My niece suggested we try as we dont live too far and decided to give it a try! We sat outside as it waa lovely out. There was plenty of shade which made it perfect. Chairs are metal and a bit uncomfy and if you wear short shorts/skirt, you are gonna stick! We were there at lunch and didnt order drinks but a neighboring table had a mess of blueberry margaritas that looked amazing. Several items were not available so we ordered around it. I had a chicken sandwich with bbq sauce abd mac n cheese on it. It was tasty and messy - i ended up pulling the mac n cheese off and eating it like a side. The chicken breast was huge but perhaps a tad too much bbq sauce on it. My granddaughter had the chicken caesar wrap and mac n cheese. She thoroughly loved the mac n cheese but the wrap had a much higher percentage of lettuce than chicken - still tasty. And my husband had a grilled chicken sandwich with veggies including avocado. All in all - not bad but too much food for us at lunch!

I was in town for the Virginia governors housing conference, and my group decided to check out this spot for a late dinner on a Thursday night. This restaurant is located in the middle of downtown Roanoke adjacent to several other restaurants and a food court as well. So there's definitely options. Parking seems to be fairly limited, but I'm sure there is a parking garage or two nearby. We walked from the Hotel Roanoke conference center so parking wasn't a concern. As we entered into the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the hostess, who also seem to be the main wait staff and the bartender. She did a great job of holding the table down while also manning other tables and running orders back-and-forth. This is a place with a pretty extensive menu for its size and so we were pretty surprised at the depth of choices. However, I found the food to be overall well prepared, and pretty enjoyable. Drinks were also good as we ordered a couple of the specials off of the menu. Definitely a place. I would return to again the next time I'm in Roanoke.

A group of 4 of us went to TH on a Tuesday evening. We sat outside despite it being chilly since the outdoor area was heated. Our server was polite, helpful, and very accommodating. We did have to switch tables since our first table was not steady. Throughout our meal there was a lingering alternative smoke smell, similar to those who garden iykyk. The music was very good, early 00's r&b. Our food was overall good. Nothing overly special. Two of us had chicken sandwiches, which were great except we both agreed the chicken was dry. One person had a cobb salad, which was very good, and the other had shrimp, which were flavorful. Not a bad experience, not the best, and not the first choice if we come back to visit.

Where is the cheese?? Great drinks and great service. But for a place that has Mac and cheese bowls on the menu, you would think that the side of Mac and cheese would be cheesy. I'm not sure where the cheese was, but it was not in my bowl. Chicken sandwiches were good but dry. Hush puppies were excellent!!! Again, great drinks, service, and hush puppies. Don't bother with the Mac n cheese.

My friend and I decided to come to The Hatch restaurant on a Friday afternoon for an early dinner before driving out to Rocky Mount. So much you could say about The Hatch and that it's popular for seafood. The menu was simple and limited. We arrived around 5:30pm on a brisk March 2026 Friday early evening. We found parking nearby and walked to the restaurant after over feeding the meter. We probably spent about an hour here before we paid for the bill and left the downtown Roanoke area. On this day, I decided to pay for myself and my friend, since he was celebrating his birthday. My friend and I spent about an hour here and it was a nice venue to have dinner with friends. My friend got the fried chicken thing with sides, whereas I got the ultimate po'boy sandwich with a side of fries. It seems like The Hatch tries to elevate Cajun / Southern food with familiar flavors and dishes in a more modern and lavish setting. For the price and perceived value I gotten from my meal, it was generally okay. I have had po'boys that was a tad cheaper but had more proteins stuffed into the sandwich. It was delicious and definitely nice to have after a day of touristing in Roanoke. The prices seem reasonable here in hindsight and the staff here was friendly and helpful. If you enjoy Soul food and Cajun cuisine with flair, consider coming to The Hatch in downtown Roanoke, if you're in the area. We happened to get here without minimal waiting for a table, which was a good thing. Definitely worth coming to check out if you're in the mood for something different than your usual burgers and fries or tacos. The overall experience here at The Hatch restaurant in downtown Roanoke, Virginia was decidedly good yet decent too. The ambiance was typical and quiet. My friend and i were sitting in the quieter side of the restaurant, which was nice and we had a nice conversation while waiting for our meals to arrive. It was comfortable and definitely air-conditioned. Not sure if they had Wi-Fi but I did not need it anyway. The restaurant itself was very decorative and clean. The meal I had was delicious and definitely. It was served with a smile from the server. I enjoyed every bit of the restaurant itself because it was a nice and quiet dinner and it was here in Roanoke. A quiet town in Virginia that is away from the hustle and bustle of Richmond and Washington DC, but has his own flare. Maybe it could've told something better than a po'boy or had other entrée at the time, but I decided to have that po'boy sandwich with weird version of French fries. It was an OK place to be although the mail was delicious regardless. I could recommend coming here, if you're really hungry, but I probably wouldn't come here again. If my future travels permit me too, though. Don't get me wrong, it is a good place, but it's not for me. Check it out, though, you may like it. The Hatch restaurant is located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. They are situated physically at 32 Market Square SE in a busy downtown section. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, my friend used a paid parking lot that was a short walk away from the restaurant. He inadvertently overpaid for the time allotted but we got the time in that we wanted. There may be other spots in the downtown area but it may not be free. Decide what's best for you and head on over to The Hatch Roanoke. If you're like me and love public transportation, you can consider the Star Line Trolley that travels from the third street bus terminal. Other than that, you'll need to travel to the third street bus terminal from your point of origin. And of course, there is always uber and lyft to get you here comfortably and conveniently, if you decide to take that route. However you get here, you can come and enjoy. The Hatch seems like they're a casual eatery in downtown Roanoke. They try to be upscale with southern creole cuisine. It is a nice place to dine, of course. Check it out for yourselves. This place might be the hidden gem that you're dying to try in the heart of Roanoke. I liked it but it could have been a bit more better. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! B

June 23, 2025 - 2 for lunch after HOURS of driving. Came off the major highway about 6 miles out of our way..... reviews and comments looked good. Wife got the Caesar salad with steak. She reported fresh greens and a nicely cooked product/steak. 9/10 I was looking for a veggie/vegan option-like thing and got the veggie handheld. I had been driving for about 6 1/2 hours up from Murphy NC along 81 so I might have not read what I thought I was getting... the fried green tomato, plant based patty, and the brioche bun were pretty oily and coasted and fried.... I actually ended up with indigestion later from all the fried oil in the green tomato breading and exterior, the plant based patty as well was grilled in oil or somewhere and I am not sure what the plant based composition was made of??? this was a 4/10 type of item for me. I got a side of baked beans that were okay but wildly sugary and sweet and liquidy. 7/10 Service was pretty good and the pricing was moderate and typically at about $15 for the veggie burger, the Caesar and Steak at $19 was in range.

My co-workers came here for lunch and we all got something different. All of us thought our meals were delicious. I got "The Heat" chicken sandwich with fries. I would definitely eat it again!! The service was top notch! The ambience is very causal. Located downtown, I bet this place gets a ton of business during the day! I'll definitely eat here again!

Food is absolutely delicious and service is good Environment and ambience was awkward just gonna say the it was the day but avoid the biscuits to oily whatever they do to prepare them it's like a brick of butter

The atmosphere is amazing, right downtown in center of the square. Indoor, outdoor,& bar seating available. My friend and I came for brunch and I got the chicken and biscuit and it was divine, she got the chicken and waffle sampler, equally as yummy. The many different mimosa flavors was unlike any other brunch place I've been! Impressive!

A relaxing environment where to enjoy an amazing Southern cuisine can't even begin to describe what The Hatch is all about. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Today I decided to revisit this restaurant and enjoy some good Southern Cruise. The Host warmly greeted me and took me to my table. My server Gemma soon arrived with a big smile to take my order. I asked her if they had any Mocktails. She told me that she can have one made. I asked for a Margarita Mocktail. Amazingly she came back with three alternative Margarita's flavor. I picked the peach one. What their bartender created was a masterpiece of Mocktail. It tasted as good as it looked. To start off with I order their Hushpuppies appetizer with their special butter. They are the best Hushpuppies I've ever eaten anywhere, and I've eaten some good Hushpuppies. So crunchy in the outside and soft and flavorful in the inside. As my main entrée I once again ordered The Fried Pork Chop Dinner with fries and salad being my two sides. They make amazing Fried Pork Chops with only a tiny bone. I had their Blue Cheese salad dressing. It was all amazingly delicious, including their corn bread that was included with this entrée. The server Gemma provided excellent customer service. She graciously pointed out to me that they had reasantly introduced Peach Cobbler as a new dessert, with Vanilla Ice-cream on top. I definitely ordered it and it was a magnificent Grand Finale to a wonderfully dinning experience. I definitely highly recommend this restaurant if you want to enjoy some excellent Southern cuisine, accompanied by amazing cocktails, in a relaxing dining environment, with wonderful customer service.

Southern Fried Chicken

The food looks absolutely amazing, the service was great and the surrounding area is gorgeous even including an outside sitting area. The food is southern but honestly was disappointing, not terrible but not amazing. What was amazing is the cornbread! My entire table had mashed potatoes & it was weirdly thick, the texture was completely off, almost like it was made with too much corn starch. We had a chicken that was very blood and undercooked, but received a full refund for that order, which was very much appreciated. The Mac & cheese is mid honestly, the seasoning on the chicken was just okay, the seafood platter was also just okay. I would honestly recommend the hatch handhelds + cornbread of course, not the entrees. The appetizers were good.

Mashed, boxed potatoes Mac & cheese Meatloaf with gravy.. request no gravy... cornbread was like Jiffy mix.

While we opted not to explore the drink menu, we were eager to see what the kitchen had to offer. The menu itself is concise, focusing primarily on wings, sandwiches, and pizzas, supplemented by a few small appetizers. The culinary style is quite eclectic. They feature several unconventional toppings and flavor combinations that might seem a bit eccentric at first glance. The Culinary Experience I decided on a flatbread-style pizza topped with: Smoked chicken Pickles Peppadew-style peppers (which resembled small cherry tomatoes) A tangy, zesty sauce reminiscent of an enchilada base with an extra "zing." My wife opted for a "build-your-own" pizza featuring red onions, pepperoni, and bell peppers. Although she realized too late that she had forgotten to request light sauce, she noticed the oversight immediately upon the dish's arrival. Service Observations The service was a bit of a mixed bag. Our waitress was professional but remarkably brisk. She lacked the usual pleasantries or "small talk" one might expect, focusing instead on efficiency. While her haste felt a bit impersonal, I couldn't complain about her attentiveness--she was incredibly prompt at refilling my iced tea the moment my glass was empty. Make sure you bring your pocketbook this pizza brings a sting at the register.

I have truly enjoyed dining in each and every one of them. But Bread Craft, located in the Star City of Roanoke, is in a class of its own. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. I'm absolutely certain it will become one of your favorites bakery.

The New Yorker Delicatessen is practically a landmark in the Star City of Roanoke, Virginia,…read more providing Quality Subs, Deli Meats, and other delicious items at very reasonable prices. I never got to visit it before Covid. But after Covid the dining room is no longer in operation and the Deli is Open for Take Out orders only. Their menu has been practically the same for 30 years, but now they accept credit cards for payment as well as cash. They have one of the largest parking lots of a restaurant located on Williamson Road. Yet it is never full anymore because now the restaurant is Open for Take Out orders only. Nevertheless, after all these years, I was looking forward to going in and discovering what was inside that has continue to attract such a large clientele to the restaurant. With a beautiful Art Deco-Ish Restaurant sign on its parking lot, that entice you to drive in; the architectural solid design of the building structure seems to be reflecting how solid this business continues to be in spite all it has gone through during the Civid era. The restaurant's building design contained many brown bricks as well as tiles making it look warm and solid. As one entered through two larged open doors, the first thing one saw was refrigerated display cases with Deli meats and other food items such as potato salad, cheese cakes. One of their employees greeted me with a smile behind the counter and even though I had a small menu of the place, she showed me a large version of the menu located on one of the walls, when I told her this was my first time here. The decor was very simple with chips filling all the all the wooden shelves around, a framed large portrait of the deceased founder of the restaurant, and many award certificates that the restaurant had won through the years. I ordered a Cheese Dog to go, because of the quality look of the hot dogs stored inside the refrigerator display case up front. And also an Onion Wheel, that had Corned Beef, Pastrami, and Imported Swiss, Served with Lettuce and Onions on a Buttered Onion Roll. For dessert I ordered a slice of their famous Cheesecake made in-house and a Chocolate Bomb. A dessert that I had for the first time at a local Italian Restaurant. Made with chocolate mousse in the center and other layers of chocolate all around, it is one of my favorites desserts ever. When I approached the cashier counter to pick up my order and to pay for it, a very welcoming and friendly lady who seemed to be the manager of the restaurant talked to me a little bit about the history about the restaurant and about its founder and his wife. From there I also got to see the dining area, that even though it was not used at the moment, gave you a sense of how the restaurant looked when it had eat in service. The food items were all reasonably priced. They sandwiches bread was soft and fresh and well toasted. And the deli meats, cheese, and other ingredients were served in generous portions, and amazingly delicious. And the slice of Dill Pickle was a nice touch to the eating experience. The desserts were also amazing, from the Cheesecake made in-house to the Chocolate Bomb who I would definitely return just for this alone. Even though I missed the inside the restaurant dining experience, I definitely highly recommend the amazing food and extraordinary customer service received. And Joe's Deli, in Salem, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located right next to the City of Salem Farmer's Market and its parking lot, where you can conveniently park for up to two hours, enough time to park and walk across the street to Joe's Deli to have something to eat. While I was walking, I noticed a mural with a rendition of people eating at Joe's Deli painted on the side of the building, which I found very interesting. Once inside, during around lunch time, the restaurant was modern and clean with a minimalist decor. The dining area had both regular size and high tables and chairs, and also a small bar counter with a large screen TV and a framed American Flag under it. On the wall leading to the ordering counter there was a poster with a QR code to be able to skip the line by ordering online on their website. Next to this there was another poster with the Roanoke College Wrestling schedule for the season. The atmosphere here was incredibly warm and inviting, making for a really comfortable experience. On top of that, this was by far one of the cleanest delis I've ever visited; it's clear they take take great take great pride in their space. I waited in line as a lady in front of me was making her order at the ordering counter and a gentleman was waiting standing up for his take-out order. While I waited I took a menu brochure from the counter and planned what to order. When it was my turn to order, a friendly lady greated me at the ordering counter and answered some questions that I had about what I was planning to order. I ordered a Reuben Pastrami that came on a white rye bread, and included a bag of chips. To drink I ordered a Pepsi since they carried Pepsi products. When my order was ready they called my name and I went to pick it up. The sandwich came wrapped in a nice, heavyweight waxed sandwich paper. When I opened it at my table, the sandwich was humongous, filled with a generous amount of quality Pastrami, Swiss cheese, Sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on a white rye bread, and was toasted. It was amazingly delicious! So much so that I went back and complimented the owner and chef of the restaurant, in person through the window that led to the kitchen. I highly recommend this deli for breakfast or lunch. For they have the qualities of a great Delicatessen, focusing on quality ingredients, generous portions, and excellent service.

Great marble rye, loaded with quality Swiss cheese and the sauerkraut was outstanding. The corned beef was a mid, just missing any flavor. Tasted like a horseradish sauce was also added which gave the sandwich a bit more life. Very so-so overall....nice owners, very friendly. Look for street parking. The only New York City Deli in Roanoke, Virginia; located almost in the corner of Jefferson Street and Campbell Avenue SE, it is centrally located with on street parking as well as a parking garage nearby. When I arrived to the building where the restaurant was located, it had a small restaurant front with windows on the two sides of the restaurant's door. It had its name painted in the window, as well as a black stand out sign with golden letter fonts: "R.T. Smith's Delicatessen EST. 2011." From outside it seemed like all small restaurant, but once inside, I found that its was actually a long space with an infinite amount of food products and many menus for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant was decorated with many interesting items, menu signs, and a collection items of Star Trek figurines. The owner greeted me with a friendly hello and asked me to pick a table, serve myself coffee, and take a seat. After reviewing the menu while sseated, I ordered the Hot Mess Omelette. It was one of the largest omelettes in the Breakfast menu. Later I found out that they also had Breakfast Add Ons to the Omelette at an extra price. But the Omelette I ordered already had 4 eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, and American & Gouda cheese. When the Omelette was cooked and served on the counter, I went to pick it up and pay the bill on the cashier counter. When I took it to my.table and opened up the container where it was served; I was amazed at the size of it. It was cooked perfectly. I put salt and pepper on it from the antique Coca Cola bottle shackers and began eating it. It was one of the best Omelettes that I have ever eaten! And I have eaten the best of the best. Another of my best was one I ate at the Boston Marriott Hotel that had Lobster meat, mushrooms, and brie cheese. Afterwards, I stayed for a while drinking my coffee and talking to the owner and his wife. They both have wonderful personalities and we talked about the business, their move from New York to here. How they import their fresh bagels from New York and soon they will be importing other items as well. Their hobby of collecting Star Trek figurines and other items. Before I left I made sure to tell them that they had just gained not only a new customer, but also a friend. I highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. They serve quality food in generous portions and cooked extraordinary well. And provide with their wonderful customer service an amazing dining experience!

Coconut Cake is like Heaven!…read more Wow, first time getting anything from this shop and very impressed. Ordered a 9" round 3 layer coconut cake for my wife's birthday, her favorite! I am not a food critic, so I will describe it as best I can. Beautiful appearance - fluffy white cake. Icing is just the right amount of sweet without being heavy like some icing. Feels almost light but has substance. Texture is smooth and pleasant. The cake itself is a off-white cake that has a combination of lightness with some density to it, but again not heavy. I'm and older guy and this is the best cocunut cake I have ever eaten. Just the right balance of flavor, texture and deliciousness, but not the overpowering sweet like many children's desserts and candies have. Thank you for a great product and timely, pleasant service! Love the appearance of your shop, and I do plan to return and try other products.

Arriving several hours before closing, I found only a couple of loaves on sale, and a long line to get with them. I managed to snag the last one that wasn't plain white bread, and thought I'd add a slice of pizza as it looked appealing. While the ingredients were there, the little toaster oven they used barely warmed it up at all. I ate it there, but I'd suspect it would have been much better if I'd gotten it to go and cooked it properly myself. They don't open all that early on weekdays and I've struggled to make it in, and on the weekend, they struggled to meet expectations. Perhaps on a different day, they could do a better job of getting the right baked goods into my hands.

Not sure if he was a mgr, owner or both, but he was super kind & highly professional. Randy discussed our last delivery order. He provided us with a tuna sub at no cost. Randy's sandwich looks & smells terrific. That's literally all it took to win us back. He apologized for the sub-par experience we had & made it right. THANK U to CAPROTTI'S & to him. Absolutely delicious subs, folks! *note: I never went to the site this business prompted me to go to so, no double dipping here. I'm always willing to pay a fair price for anything & double-dipping equals 'theft' in my book. Thx again CAPRIOTTI's AND to the gentleman that handled our order in-person today! So to start with, understand our order was placed directly by calling Caprrioti's. We did not order on DoorDash, though DoorDash did deliver. That said, we ordered a Philly cheesesteak w/extra cheese & a tuna. Tuna because I'd had some dental work & it would be easier to eat. The order arrived with a cheesesteak w/no cheese & NO tuna for me! So we called the restaurant back to complain. The response was incredulous!! Some dizzy twit told us they didn't have tuna that day. AND she only makes $8 an hour!! ZERO sandwich & ZERO refund! Their business seems to operate by selling things they simply don't have to serve & yes I'm still furious. If they didn't have tuna that day-why did they sell me tuna?!? Thievery is a pathetic business plan. BUY AT UR OWN RISK. *Note this FACT. A customer that received poor service tells 10 people. A customer that receives great service tells 3 people. That's changed with Yelp.
