This used to be the Great Southern, then the Meyrick, and is now the Hardiman. The luxury of days gone by is rather faded, but this is a comfortable hotel with a variety of rooms in a good, albeit LOUD, location. We booked three rooms: a suite and two singles. Due to COVID, the rooms have been stripped of decorative touches like throw pillows, stationery, etc. That said, the necessities are there and well done. The beds, pillows, and duvets are super comfortable. The views over Eyre Square, if your room faces that way, are excellent. Rooms on the Square, however, are LOUD. It seems all of Galway's youth gathers there at night to sing, chant, yell, and party.
Our rate included free breakfast, which was a highlight of our stay. Full Irish breakfasts, breakfast burritos, salmon and eggs, continental items such as yogurt and granola, baked goods, cereals, toast, hot chocolate, juices, smoothies, coffee, and of course tea, are all in abundance. I paid a €1 surcharge for a latte. Service for breakfast was excellent.
Service at other times was hit or miss. We ordered room service one night and they forgot utensils and our pot of tea. We ordered drinks in the lobby one night and they never came; the server simply disappeared and we had to get up and find someone else. Front desk staff was great. Valet parking was slow.
Overall, a good stay. read more
