A very nice hotel. Stunning reception and foyer. And bar. Worth popping in for a look at least. Very nice reception staff too. I was a last minute add on for one night on my husbands booking. But no hassle at all upon check in. Apparently the old part of the hotel it's simply fabulous. But on this occasion we were in the new part of the hotel. But to be honest, even though the room was a bit small, it was very comfortable. And the bathroom rocked. Fabulous bath and water filled up in quicktime. I love baths and we don't have one at home, so I wallowed and wallowed long. In the bath. Bed was very comfortable and cosy. I slept in, so missed breakfast - I cannot comment on that. Definitely recommended. I look forward to returning to the Hotel Meyrick. read more

Love this hotel. The heated towel racks, the divine lilac sofa in the room, the free wifi, and the gorgeous decor throughout the hotel make the Meyrick a wonderful and slightly luxurious place to stay in Galway. The rooms feature a lovely seating area and period style decor. The pants press was hit for one of the members of my party since they love everything to be freshly pressed. I adore the location as well. Located right in the heart of Galway and walking distance from just about everything (that is unless you are lazy and don't walk much). There is a wonderful breakfast here as well. I would highly recommend the Meyrick to anyone wishing to stay in Galway. On a side note, the main level guest bathroom was slightly creepy; there is wallpaper that features these odd victorian faces that stare at you. read more

We arrived into Galway (pronounced Gul-way), via train and although we could see on the map that the hotel was close, we didn't realize it was actually connected to the station! Finally! We don't have to trek all over the city for our room! The lobby is absolutely gorgeous and exactly the way you'd imagine a handsomely old rail hotel to look: sparkeling chandelies, a roaring fireplace and pictures of the hotel from the turn of the century. Staff was friendly and although they couldn't get us an early check in, when we arrived back to get our keys, we found our bags already waiting for us in the room. Our room had the same victorian theme as the lobby however our windows faced to the exit area of the train station. Our window was open for freah air when we arrived but we needed to close them immediately to block out some of the noise. Even with that window closed and shades drawn, we heard ideling disels and the backing-up 'beep-beep-beep' from trucks all day. This was especially irksome in the morning. Thankfully it was chilly during our stay and we didn't need the windows open for fresh air (no AC here BTW). My only other downside was that the free wi-fi went in and out. When it was on it was strong but it was annoying not knowing if or when it would go. But it was free, something typically not offered in the states, so I can't complain too much. Otherwise, it was a very pleasent stay! Beds were inviting - not a pillow-top but comfortable enough. The smaller rooms complemented the hotels age. They offered most of the amenities we needed (again no alarm clock. Ireland must not have need for alarm clocks). The full breakfast offered in their lower level resturant was savory, not to mention the resturant was quite stylish. Oh, and the location can't be beat! On top of being zero walk to catch our train out, it was just footsteps to all the shopping and resturants of the cities lively pedestrian-friendly center. read more

The Hotel Meyrick is like many luxury historic hotels I have visited that lives on its historic reputation- formerly opulent but a bit frayed and worn. The hotel from the outside and in its public spaces, displays cozy dark woods, immaculate floors and finishes befitting a luxury hotel. The rooms themselves are not at the same standard. The carpets are a bit faded and worn and the furniture is likewise. The beds are OK, but not remarkably comfortable. If you don't like a soft bed, your not going to find this bed comfortable, but I was fine with it. The staff is very accommodating, but are helpful with any need you have. They are the best part of the experience for me at this hotel. Location wise, Hotel Meyrick is right in the heart of Galway and walking distance to just about anything you are looking to see. Omg. The (full size bed for 2) looked like it was from 1985. Huge dip in it, my bf's feet were hanging off. Talk about outdated and a serious backache. I would never recommend this place. I'd be embarrassed to. They tried to accommodate me and switched me to a 2 twin bed room. Not so romantic. Aesthetically and staff friendliness was so below par. This is not a warm and charming place whatsoever... I would disregard any feedback over a number two star. UPDATE. 2:30 am and ballroom has techno music blasting! I just called front desk about it. What a joke. I can't even sleep in my terrible bed if I wanted to! I officially hate this place. A warning would have been appropriate. read more

We just had a wonderful few days in this lovely hotel. Eimear checked us into the hotel and her attentive manner was an indication of the wonderful service throughout the whole place. Staff were most considerate, you just knew they knew their job and were quick and happy to oblige any request you might have. Our room overlooked Eyre Square and was stunning. Everything was clean and fresh and comfortable and had a gracious feeling attached to the whole place. I loved my stay. The bar staff provided a cucumber gin in a large glass that was so refreshing - then we went into dine in the basement restaurant. The service, the staff, so good and the food sublime. I so enjoyed my stay, i would go back again and again. Breakfast was another absolute treat, seating accommodation was so well thought out, to give privacy and comfort. Staff brought our tea, coffee and toast, and anything you wanted from the kitchen with alacrity and charm. Hotel: giving this a 4.5-- we had a junior suite that was superb. The ceilings were 15 ft high and the room was huge. Loved the separate bath and used it to unwind at the end of the day. No AC but luckily we didn't need it in late September. Upstairs the jacuzzi and Canadian hot tub are highlights of the building. Spa: I am giving this a 1.5-- I booked a last minute treatment, 3 mini treatments for €90. I was told each mini treatment was 30 minutes, so it should have lasted 90 minutes total. Here's why I wasn't thrilled: -The room walls are paper thin so you can hear everything outside. -treatment table was covered with towels instead of sheets and a blanket. Oddly enough, laying naked on a towel actually gets uncomfortable after a while. -my treatment started 5 mins late and ended 15 minutes early. read more

Attended a wedding here just recently and absolutely loved this place. It's actually a pretty old hotel (since 1852 I've been informed!), but they must have done some serious renovations in recent years, as the current decor is quite sleek and modern. One of the massive selling points of this place is of course the location. It's more or less attached to the train station, and right on Eyre Square. The only way you could get more centrally located would be to pitch a tent! It was absolutely bucketing down rain on the day we were there, and despite being extremely busy, we were told to just pull up to the entrance and hop out (trying to save the hair from that blasted rain!), and let the hotel take care of it. They took our car and parked it for us, then just need 10 - 15 mins notice to retrieve it for you when you're leaving. (You won't need your car if you're staying around Galway - because of the location I mentioned earlier!) The grace and good humour with which the staff dealt with the 300 odd soaked to the skin wedding goers, really was a testament to them. Now on to the most important point - the food. We were greeted with various platters of deliciousness upon arrival, which just kept on coming, ranging from hoisin duck pastry squares, to tiny but perfectly made sandwiches. The meal itself was outstanding. I had steak, and it was cooked to perfection, again, despite the huge numbers at the wedding. Another great little spot in the hotel is the bar downstairs. It's nearly got a kind of 1920's glam vibe about it, decked out in opulent black and white decor. More fantastically friendly staff here, and excellent cocktail makers to boot. We chose this hotel because it was a more historic local hotel. When you walk in the lobby is very fancy. And judging by the front, the second floor rooms had huge windows with beautiful drapes. We were excited for our stay.... Until They showed us to our room. It was in the back of the hotel. I know European hotels can be very small but this was by far the smallest we had ever seen! It looked like a jail cell! There was no decor! We had a view of a dumpster! The bed and bedding were old and gross! I called the front desk and told them we had booked an upgraded room. They told me they had a wedding and for that reason they had moved us to the back. The pretty rooms in the front were given to a wedding party, even though we booked one almost a year in advance! I looked at the floor plan on the door and saw that we were in the smallest room in our hall. So I called and asked if we could at least be moved to one of the others without a view of a steaming hot dumpster (did I mention no air conditioning.) We were moved to the room I pointed to that was a few sq feet larger. It really wasn't any different except the view was now just a filthy alley and no dumpster. The real shitty part is that they still charged us the same price for one of the big nice front rooms! And then just threw us into these gross rooms in the back that are not pictured in the brochure for the hotel. So we paid paid first class rates for a room I wouldn't even see fit for a homeless shelter! Don't waste your time with this place. Even if you THINK you are reserving one of those beautiful front rooms. They will take your money and just throw you in the back! No thank you! read more

Stayed at the Hotel Meyrick for 2 nights while in Galway. Located In the heart of the city and pretty much next to the train station. Close to all the action. There are numerous pubs, restaurants, shops and activities nearby. We stayed in a twin room (2 twin beds). They were very comfortable. There was ample room for all of our "stuff". The bathroom was immaculate. Water pressure in shower was great. Towels were soft. We enjoyed a complimentary Full Irish Breakfast each morning. Very good-cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs, bacon, home fries, pudding (look up description before eating!), sausage (yummy), & cheese, among other things. You could also order other things from the menu, like poached or fried eggs. ALL of the employees were friendly, professional and helpful. There is a restaurant for dinner and 2 bars. My sister & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I have no reservations in recommending the Hotel Meyrick if staying in Galway. read more

Lovely hotel. We were upgraded to a suite as the hotel was off season. The room was huge, with lots of windows. Bed comfortable. Furnishings dated and a bit run down. Old hotel but a classic. The oldest hotel in Galway. The parlor was cozy. The gaslight bar was fun and yummy foods. Fresh Irish crab claws with garlic butter were had a few times. The Irish Beef Burger another Star. 3.5 star hotel here. Great location, nicely maintained and very friendly staff but no A/c seems silly. Now, you're probably saying to yourself, who needs a/c in Ireland... We never had a day where the high was below 78 and our room had a nice view and big windows directly facing the sun so it got blazing hot in there!!! Now I'm not complaining about the incredibly fabulous weather we had just an observation that a hotel of this caliber should have some kind of A/c. Old feeling historic style hotel with the narrow hallways and all the doors to walk through make traversing with golf clubs a challenge but it's all part of the ambiance! The bar downstairs takes pride in their cocktails and one they made for us had gin, Cointreau, marmalade, fresh slices of ginger and something else, probably why I can't remember the name of it. Breakfast downstairs, (didn't know about the downstairs until I went hunting for that traditional Irish breakfast) had very attentive staff and everything you might need for breakfast. It's also complimentary, which might be how things are in Ireland but "complimentary" in the states is a bagged muffin, cereal, some warm milk, and fruit salad, this is the full Monty with a Buffett of fried l eggs, bacon, sausages, pudding (which isn't pudding like it is in the states) fried tomatoes, and beans. Getting here with GPS was a bit of a nightmare - well, it was fine until we were about a kilometer away - lots of quick turns on unmarked streets with a Garmin that couldn't keep up with city driving was quite stressful! I could not have been more relieved when the desk clerk told me that parking was by valet only! The woman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly (can't remember her name). I booked the room with American Airlines frequent flyer miles, and had no problems whatsoever with the booking. Our room was, shall we say, cozy and a bit stifling. To be fair, it was unseasonably warm during our stay, and a member of the staff brought us an oscillating fan maybe five minutes after I called the front desk. The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom and the shower was in a tub that had half of a glass door - it was odd, but surprisingly effective. Also, the hotel breakfast was quite good. The hotel seemed to be centrally located. There were a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. read more

This is a hotel styled for a bygone era. The furniture, lamps, and window treatments suggest something from the early 1920s when travel by rail was still the height of transport technology. When we arrived, it was pouring rain. The hotel has a convenient guest loading zone in front of the building. A bellman with an umbrella spotted us and ran to the car to get our bags. The hotel does not have dedicated/secure parking. There is a public parking lot immediately adjacent to the hotel (currently 6 euros per 24 hours). We are staying in a suite. It is spacious with a king bed, comfy chairs, desk, etc. with a separate sitting/TV room. Wifi is free, but bandwidth is lacking. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, only heating. As a result, the windows actually open to provide cool air. The bed is comfortable and the linens are soothing. The bath is spacious and all tile. Towel warmers are wall-mounted. There is a double-sink vanity, deep bath tub, and separate shower. One of the sinks was slow to drain and occasionally emitted noxious gases. The cold water knob on the bath was not attached. Despite being an old building, there were few visible mobility limitations. The room used for breakfast was in the basement and was a bit tricky to find. Once in, the room was bright and had some natural light on one side. Food was okay. The service was earnest if not timely. Overall, this was a nice experience. The quirkiness of the building and the charm of the staff more than made up for the few disappointments. I like the place and would stay here again. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I first checked into a standard room and when I entered the room was NOTHING like the picture online. I understand that pictures online are of the best rooms but this was far from. In addition, there was a little fan plugged in and turned on because the room was so unbelievably hot! It was unbearable to be in the room even with the fan on. I called downstairs and the manager was very kind and offered a new room. This is the ONLY reason that I would even consider 2 stars. I was then put into a new room, a suite. The suite was large and spacious but still so hot! In addition, there were loose tiles in the dressing room and bathroom and the room was in need of a serious makeover. I think you can find a hotel for the same money justttt around the corner. read more

Hard to know where to begin in describing the failures of this place. The room came with a refrigerator that doesn't work, which pretty much describes the rest of the staff as well. They say they provide laundry service , but fail to pick it up from in front of your door as they say to leave it there. Asked for some ice at bar, which they were happy to provide, but not before spilling it on me and the rest of the floor around me. Hotel windows are very dirty. We also got the handicap room, so no tub, or shower curtain, so the water from the shower just goes everywhere. And of course they don't provide anything to clean that up either. Simply avoid this place unless you like one star hotels. read more

A million % amazing. We got married at the Meyrick Hotel on April 27th just gone. This hotel offers EVERYTHING you could possibly hope for. We had been planning our wedding for 2 years and Paula and Margaret were there every step of the way and nothing less. They were warm and friendly but extremely professional at all times. They made our day feel like we were royalty. Every guest that came to our wedding couldn't speak highly enough of the attention to detail given on our special day. Also Mary in the Gaslight Bar made our day too and Philip the head chef blew our guest away with our meal. There wasn't anything that we could have wanted for. Paula and Margaret and all their colleagues, from front of house to reservations, thank you too Aoife for your patience with our bookings. Also Joanna in the No15 restaurant. Through the 2 years of planning Paula and Margaret had first class communication with us, well impressed as we're over in the UK. They never kept us hanging and always followed up with anything that we needed to know. Thanks to Steven too in the ballroom and all the part time staff on the day. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the entire hotel has wonderful character and warmth with atmosphere. It's buzzing here. We can't recommend enough this hotel for punctuality , reliability, commitment, and warmth and professionalism. Everyone here can't do enough for you. This hotel is nice. Our room was clean, the food was good and they had a cool bar off the lobby. My only complaint was the noise at night. We had a room in the front of the hotel, facing Eyre Square. Our first night there was raucous noise from about midnight to 1:30 - literally sounding like a political rally. This isn't the hotel's fault, but it's something to be aware of if you're staying. As for other room options, I'm not sure if the options are better or worse. Our kids stayed in a different room with a view of an alley. read more

This hotel has great curb appeal. It looks beautiful on the outside and the lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The bedrooms were very clean and the staff was somewhat helpful. Great location! We had afternoon tea here, which my mom was crazy about. She convinced our waitress to make a special order of salmon and cream cheese sandwiches for us. They were AMAZING! Best part of the whole meal... they should add it to their regular menu. The scones and clotted cream didn't disappoint either. The room that the tea is served in is quite gracious. The walls are full of floor to ceiling paintings and it makes you feel quite at home. There was a nook in the back that was very Harry Potteresque. It appeared to be a bookcase, but was actually a hidden door used by staff. We obviously had a photo op here. read more

A beautiful old hotel with a great location. As was previously mention the lack of circulating air ir the rooms is a problem. It must be unbearable during warmer months. I would avoid the rooms located in the back of the hotel which overlook a parking lot and the train station. Because the room is so stuffy you have to keep the windows open and subsequently have to listen to train station announcements, loud idling delivery trucks, worker's conversations, etc. Breakfast wasn't so great. If you do breakfast there, go early. If you don't everything is really picked over ( it is buffet style). Bread, pastries and scones were all dried out. All the various juices were empty. Overall... it is a beautiful old hotel that could do better. read more

We really enjoyed our recent 2-night stay at this hotel. The location is extremely convenient to the train station, the lobby was inviting, and the room was lovely. Both the bar and restaurant within the hotel were excellent as well. Oh, and can't forget about the delicious Irish breakfast that was offered! Well done! We'll be back! read more
