We rented a car from Dublin and drove to Galway. We read the reviews prior to booking. Most of the reviews talked about how good the food is and how this hotel is rated in the top 5 for being exceptional, etc. However, you walk into the hotel and it looks like a nursing home or part 2 of the Shining. Not sure at this point. There were even funeral flowers in the lobby. The hotel was expensive, and extremely outdated. I Slept on a twin bed, but I'm pretty sure the mattress has been there since the 1800's. The breakfast was terrible. We ended up leaving and went to a close cafe. I do want to say, The staff are extremely friendly, and parking is included in your hotel stay. The hotel is clean but if you have the choice, go elsewhere. read more

This hotel is best described as cozy, but dated - which is exactly what my family enjoys. If you want a sleek, modern accommodation, then look elsewhere. The clientele were a mix of individual and tour groups. The hotel was hosting several parties in their private dining room during our stay and the lobby was bustling, but never to the point where we were annoyed. We booked the B and B package and enjoyed the breakfast both days of our stay. As with our other accommodations during our holiday, breakfast consisted of continental breakfast with a selection of hot breakfast items from the menu, so we had very full bellies each morning. Our rooms were quiet and beds comfortable. Bathrooms were clean, with strong water pressure and adequate hot water. Location, just off Eyre Square, is convenient and Express bus to Shannon Airport is right around the corner. Overall, would recommend a stay here if you are visiting Galway. read more

Like other people, I have no idea how this is considered a four-star hotel. I travel roughly 150 days a year for business. I am fortunate enough that I'm normally put up in very nice hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, La Meridien, the Saint Regis, etc... While traveling through Ireland, I have stayed in the Westin in downtown Dublin, Powerscourt in Enniskerry and Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare. All of those are five star hotels. Park house hotel in Galway would be lucky to be considered a two star hotel. Other reviewers have said it is very old and outdated and musty smelling. All I can tell you is that upon arrival, my asthma got so bad that I had to ask to switch rooms. Needless to say, that did not help. When you turn on the heat or air conditioning in your room the smell that comes from it is obviously from years of never having been cleaned. The hair dryer in the room is something out of 1950. Please see my photos! The light switches for the bathroom are outside the actual bathroom which is fine. Getting used to that in Ireland. However, the shower is only about 2 feet wide and my husband is 6'4" and 230 pounds and does not fit. The tub even though I would never use one in this day and age, it's very long but very skinny. Even though we have a "suite" the room is just far too old and far too outdated to be considered a four-star hotel. Everything about this place is antiquated and not in a good way. Our suite has double beds instead of a king bed. Please heed my advice and stay elsewhere. read more

Not sure how this place has a 4 star review because it's old as dirt. Rooms are dark and musty and in desperate need of updating. The bathroom "hairdryer" was comical. The tub/shower is ancient and there is a steep step to get out and it's slippery. This has to be a liability for older people. The room was hot but there was AC. Location is good and parking is free but there are better places to stay. Avoid this one. read more

Staff greeted us when we came in and were very helpful when setting up our room. Love the layout of the place bar and restaurant we're near parking was easy to access as it's right out front of the hotel. Bedroom was a bit small but still nice love the bathroom. Had food at the bar downstairs because you were too tired to go out and the food there was top-notch. Bar food and hotels always scare me but this is some that I would eat again. We got Ham and mushroom fried balls chicken wings seafood chowder and goat cheese balls. I'm always afraid to eat into bar menu so we stuck with the starters and we were impressed. Breakfast was buffet style but just as impressive. Smoked salmon cheeses pickles croissants and much more. Would definitely recommend this hotel. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! It smells and it's old. My family and I came here for My grandmas 80th and her room smelled like a dead body and almost everything is stained. It is not worth the money and the reason it probably has all of theses stars is because of the food, they have a place attached for dinner. My sister and I both have a lung condition, her worse then mine right now and she is going somewhere else because she can't stay here. It's is awful and I don't recommend. read more

Absolute first class experience all the way. My husband raved about their pre-checkin communication with him and the staff were so warm and welcoming from the moment we got there. They actually held an open upgraded very large suite for us knowing we were checking in early after flying overnight. So appreciated! Old world pristine elegance is how I'd describe the decor with little extra details everywhere that give a very comforting feel. Just gorgeous! Our package included a cooked to order breakfast each morning and dinner the first night we arrived. Our dinner consisted of several courses with multiple options for each course. My entree was steak & prawns and fabulous! It was one of the best dinners of our entire vacation. I loved this place. Old school elegance and charm abound. Sure she's got some age on her but I'm telling you she's holding up very well and will win you over as soon as you walk in. So well appointed, so meticulously maintained, from the art work on the walls, the quaint lobby seating, the polished brass chandeliers, this is one classy place. Formal but in a casual way so that you feel at home instantly. We sure did. The staff was super friendly without exception. Anxious to ensure you were enjoying your stay. VERY UNREPUTABLE, DISHONEST MANAGEMENT... NO INTEGRITY!!!! No words to describe the utter disappointment and disgust at our two day stay at this Hotel. Our two room, two night stay started out pleasantly, however it ended on a VERY SOUR and UNACCEPTABLE note. On our last morning, three oF our four party, entered the very small elevator, yes LIFT in Ireland... While rising to our second floor rooms, the elevator made an abrupt jolt, dropped a bit violently and stopped... the alarm began to sound along with a recording to press the button... well we pressed the button and nothing happened ... the alarm kept ringing which was disconcerting. It was even more disconcerting due to the fact that I am extremely claustrophobic and with three adults in a very small four person elevator, that was very warm inside, with alarms sounding constantly, hearing over the intercom that they had no idea how long we would be stuck in there because they had to call in a rep from the elevator company because the hotel maintenance could not help due to the elevator being stuck between two floors. I had a huge panic attack, heart palpitating, sweating, hyperventilated and actually passed out (I was on the floor passed out when they finally opened the door) Bottom line... No the hotel owner/management did not purposely cause the elevator to malfunction and be stuck for 37 LONG Minutes until the elevator repair man could extricate US... BUT... the owner/senior management ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Well there was NONE of that, in fact there was total and complete disrespect for paying customers, a complete lack of human decency let alone business savvy... They didn't even have the decency to have a hotel representative at the elevator door when it was finally opened. Long story short... we checked out... I asked to speak to management, they finally sent their Manager Anne Marie to speak to me, she was absolutely RUDE, CONDESENDING and obnoxious, didn't even attempt an apology for me passing out (she offered to call a doctor) and said "you're out now"... Someone in the Hospitality Industry should have the business acumen to at least be polite, never mind offering some type of compensation for the HORRIBLE experience. We left and we contacted the hotel NUMEROUS times requesting to speak to Sr. Management or the Owner, Kitty Carr... nothing happened for over a week and she only contacted us after EIGHT E-Mails, approximately 12 Phone Calls... Kitty Carr the owner of the Hotel DID ABSOLUTELY KNOTHING... SHE LIED, SHE MADE EXCUSES, SHE CONDONED the rude behavior of her Management.... We are staying at the hotel for several days, a nice place, getting a little frayed around the edges (duct tape holding the wall-to-wall carpeting down in places), but still a sheen of elegance. However, we ate in the hotel restaurant tonight for convenience, a bad idea. Very nice, well-meaning staff, but the food was simply not acceptable, not a one-off mistake that could be corrected, but the kitchen's best effort, typical of its output,. The Caesar salad was OK, but the beef consommé was very salty with croutons limp and saturated by the broth. The steak was tasteless and a little tough, accompanied by fairly good potatoes au gratin and a tasteless collection of vegetables. If you are looking for a good meal, look elsewhere!! read more

My husband, sister and I spent two nights at the Park House Hotel during our visit in Galway. My sister and I were torn between which hotel to choose because there were two other hotels in Galway that were rated slightly higher than the Park House, but the locations of these hotels were not as ideal as the Park House. In the end, we decided that we rather be in the city center so that we could easily walk to the tourist attractions and restaurants. (I think we made the right decision!) The Park House Hotel is a 4-star luxury hotel that offers spacious rooms and friendly service. We were warmly greeted during our check-in and were offered maps of the area and dining suggestions. My sister had a very spacious room on the 3rd floor and my husband and I were upgraded to an even larger room on the 2nd floor. The rooms at the Park House Hotel include free WIFI, guest controlled AC, luxury toiletries, and in-room safes. Since my husband and I were upgraded to a larger room we also had a mini bar, bathrobes and slippers, complimentary water and Irish chocolates. Our bathrooms were slightly outdated, but overall I found the hotel very charming. Our rooms included breakfast so we dined downstairs at Boss Doyle's Bar each morning. The cold buffet was mediocre in comparison to our other hotels in Ireland, but the hot breakfast was fantastic! Both mornings I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast that included fried eggs, pork sausages, black pudding, white pudding, toast and a roasted tomato. I miss Ireland's breakfast so much! TIP: Familiarize yourself with the hotel's location on google maps before your trip if you are arriving by car. Since the Park House Hotel is located in the heart of Galway we had a little trouble fighting traffic and one-way streets before we could figure out which street to turn on to park. Our GPS was not very helpful so we ended up circling the hotel a few times. read more

Great location, just off of Eyre Square and practically a 2-second walk from the train and bus stations. I was greeted with the warmth of a long lost relative just found. The staff here is SO NICE! I arrived a little early and was seated in the lobby and served tea and fruit bread while waiting for my room. The wifi was trouble-free and FREE! My room was very nice and full of amenities: not limited to a trouser press and tea/coffee set up with cookies. The bathroom was great, tub was nice. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! I opted for the prepaid breakfast room (which I believe entitles one to free parking, but check to make sure). The breakfast served was good - options for hot meals and also lots of cereals, yogurts, fruits, and juices to choose from. If you're into gourmet breakfasts, maybe head out to try somewhere else but if you like convenience, get the package. I hit the hotel bar my last evening and had an awesome time. The bar tenders were too much fun, and combined with the locals hanging out, it made me really feel like I was in Ireland. Only downside was that the place is a bit noisy between the other occupants and the bus terminal right on the back of the lot (I was in room 214 - a "Superior Room w/breakfast") - the bus terminal noise was ONLY noticeable during the day -BUT this was completely minor and nothing that would ever keep me from returning. So I'm not exactly sure how many stars to give the Park House because it's a 4-star hotel in terms of amenities and service, but it should get top marks (5 stars) for being the BEST that a 4 star place can be! Reasons to choose this hotel: location, the aura of peace and luxury that will sweep over you upon entering the lobby, spacious rooms, delicious restaurant, wonderful breakfast, good value for money, parking, free wi-fi, excellent service. The Park House sets the standard for an excellent city hotel - luxurious without being cheap and cheesy, efficient and spotlessly clean. It's not a new hotel by any means, but it does have that Victorian air about it that makes it all the more charming. Well kept and centrally located on Eyre Square, I don't think I'd stay anywhere else in Galway but here if I returned. Of note, breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room with a continental buffet (excellent scones and croissants) and then choice of a hot selections, including a full Irish. Park House Hotel is an iconic Institute in Galway that has been offering top service and facilities for over 40 years. The hotel is located in the heart of Galway city and although its an old hotel it has continually upgraded the facilities to maintain a modern feel. The staff in the hotel are incredibly attentive to their patrons and guests from those who simply pop in for a coffee to those guests staying in the hotel. I have been to the restaurant many times over the years and have never been disappointed by the quality and level of service. On this occassion we arrived for dinner whike they were serving the early evening dinner which was offering 3 courses with coffee or tea for $33. The menu wasn't a very restrictive selection either with each course having a choice of 10 plus. I decided to choose sea food chowder as an entrée. The chowder was incredible and came accompanied by a beautiful selection of breads. The sea food chowder was incredibly fresh and creamy. For the main I opted for steak. The sirloin steak was cooked well done and served with vegetables and a potato. The portion size was incredibly hearty and the steak was cooked beautifully. The potato was served with sour cream. I found it a little flowery and dry even with the cream. Only critical point I would have. For dessert i just choose fresh fruit salad. I was too full for anything else. At the table some others choose chocolate cake, Toblerone cheesecake & sorbet. They were all presented beautifully. Dessert was served with coffee or tea. Top quality meal and priced incredibly reasonable for a top quality hotel. Great service and the restaurant is bright, inviting and not overly crowded or loud. read more

Do not book here if you're from out of town. I booked this hotel as fun adventure for me and my wife but unfortunately a massive storm came in preventing us from traveling to Galway. They refused to help in any sort of way stating it's my fault for not knowing this storm was coming. When I called the hotel they said they would be happy to give me a full refund but I booked it though an American travel website so I would have to go through them. So I did, who were also very happy to give me a refund but needed approval from the hotel who has now changed their mind and said there is absolutely nothing they can or will do. They are so unwilling to budge they won't even give me a partial refund. So again if you aren't from around here don't book this hotel as they don't seem to care about anything but your money. Very sad for what looks like a nice establishment. read more

We arrived by train from Dublin at about noon one Wednesday morning. We knew that the Park House Hotel was close, but were still startled that our home for three nights was no more than a three minute walk from the train station. And that included me mistakenly crossing Forster Street! Our check-in was warm and expedient. So far our luck of having our room ready in spite of us arriving super early had held up. The clerk gave us detailed instructions on how to get to our room, so naturally I ignored them and took a slightly slower elevator to get us to the second floor, then followed something of a maze of hallways to reach our destination. But it was well worth it. The room was laid out in a manner so that we could both place our bags down without stumbling over them, air conditioning was present and working, and the bed was comfy. Even though the hotel is so close to the train station, it is facing away so that we'd never know - and that's including the fact that you're also close to the bus station! The hotel has two restaurants - a pub near the front, where one can get their drink on and consume seafood to their heart's content. And there is a more formal location where we had our buffet breakfast each morning - the food was plentiful and tasty, the atmosphere generally relaxed, in spite of having one waitress in some minor capacity who looked like Corinne Drury on speed who took her job way too seriously. About the only thing lacking at this hotel is a gymnasium. But let's not kid ourselves - it is in Galway, a city where no reasonable person is lacking in things to do. Run to the Salthill and back, even in the rain... it is quite romantic! I highly, highly recommend this hotel. read more

If you're looking for a modern, updated hotel, do not stay here. I can't even guess the last time the bathroom and room have been updated. The dryer in the bathroom is reminiscent of my childhood, which was in the 1980s. The shower is extremely hard to figure out how to turn on. Once you finally figure out how to use the shower, the water pressure is terrible and I even burned my feet because the temperature handles on the bottom (for the bath) do not correlate with the ones on top (for the shower). Also, if you are older or have any issues with hand strength, the knob is pretty difficult to turn. There's also a GIANT step out of the tub, so be careful when doing so. The room itself: dark, dingy. The mattresses are extremely hard and uncomfortable. Luckily, I've been traveling so long on this trip, I can pretty much sleep anywhere at this point. There's also no parking which means you have to park next door for 20€ a day. The hotel will NOT validate your parking pass unless you dine in their restaurant. Light breakfast did not include hot foods - that cost 12€. Cooked breakfast (which included hot foods) cost 14€, but doesn't include coffee juice , potatoes or any sides. Outrageous - "light breakfast" consisted of cereal, scones, some fruit, and bread. Hot food plate had small portions and 14€ for ONLY eggs. This restaurant was a huge rip off. Do yourself a favor and walk into down where you can get breakfast for 6-8€. Only positive to this hotel is its location. It is literally a 5 minute walk into town, which has lots of shopping, pubs, restaurants, etc. Even across the street there are some pubs and places to eat. Thankfully I only stayed one night. The city of Galway is absolutely beautiful - I recommend a visit to Galway, just try and stay in another hotel. read more

Quite a beautiful hotel. We booked three nights here and didn't regret a second of it. Our room was very spacious and quiet while offering all the commodities one could want (fridge, air conditioning, free WiFi, tv, stocked mini fridge, robes, slippers, iron, and tea/coffee station). They've a bar and a restaurant on the ground floor where one can indulge in a drink, a bite to eat, or order a dessert sent up to the room. They also offer breakfast with your stay and it's quite a spread! The staff is also very friendly and helpful. My husband and I really regretted having to leave this place! In addition to what it offers on its interior, it's also ideally located. The hotel can't be any closer to the train station or to many of the city's attractions. It's right by the Coach Station where many tour buses depart to the various natural sights around this region. It's also within walking distance (a few minutes really) to shops and fantastic restaurants. My husband and I found we could walk to any place from here to partake in the local attractions. That's convenient because having a car here is just a pain to park and maneuver through the cramped streets. I would so recommend making this your place to stay if ever in Galway. read more

Our visit was in June. With a party of 10 exhausted for a meal after a day of driving, arrived from Crookhaven/Goleen via Cliff of Mohr. Sadly, after we finally settled in to our rooms and cleaned up for dinner it was close to 9p when we went in search of a meal. The B&B we were staying recommended the Park House as one of her top choices. We were in search of a pub atmosphere, some one in our party was celebrating a birthday and was hoping for that but sadly the pub across the street stopped serving. So with nothing else planned we went to the hotel and looked at the menu in the window, but wasn't what we wanted to eat. I ran into the lobby and found out that Boss Doyles Bar serves food later and had exactly what we were looking for a meal. We were seated next to each other in booth seating and promptly served water and menus. Once settled specials were given and drink orders were taken. Drinks delivered and orders given. Ah, we can now start to relax. The atmosphere was pleasant, good for our talking among our selves. Appetizers and salads arrived in good timing and were excellent in presentation and flavor. Entree's were varied and all were excellent, The Cold fisherman's platter was ordered by two in our party and were a great variety of fish and prepared perfect. Others also ordered the Chicken Maryland which was very flavorful and a large portion, Chicken caesar salad, Seafood Tagliatelle which was fantastic, creamy and flavorful with lots of seafood, and The Oven roasted vegatables were a surprise hit! No no no, this place is nothing like advertised. Four star hotel my butt. The place reeks like mold, and is just outdated and blah. I was told it was known for its food and the menu looked amazing, but the food did not deliver either. The cosumme was so salty I was startled by it. And although I steak and scampi sounded great, the shrimp was so fishy and drenched in some creamy tasteless sauce that one bite was enough to push it to the side of the plate, never to be touched again. The steak was good, it was, but that wasn't enough. The potatoes were mushy and tasteless, the veggies the same. We shook off dinner and tried to go to bed, but the unidentified and obnoxious rattling noise that lasted all night (and day) kept us up. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of that hotel. The included breakfast was sub-par only offering soggy eggs and some canned looking fruit. The only thing that saves this place from only one star is the fantastic smiles and service of the employees and it's excellent location. Loved staying at this centrally located hotel in Central Galway. We arrived from the US at 11 am, but our room was not ready. The front desk was very accommodating and they stored our luggage and promised to call us when our room became available. Check in was 3pm but we were able to get into our room at about 1pm. Breakfast which was included was delicious and service was impeccable. Everything is spotless. Pub across the street had great food and entertainment. I believe it was called An Pucan. read more

Stay here for the location. You can walk to all the pubs, get stinking drunk, and still find your way back. That alone makes this the place to stay on a visit. Very clean, nice in room tea service. Big spacious rooms. The decor is kind of weird, its sort of like the Eighties meets Henry the VIII with carpeting. Wifi was spotty in our room location (a triple suite on the second floor which, if I remember correctly, they call the first floor.) The guys parking the cars are awesome. Friendly and helpful. I had an excellent customer service experience with the front desk attendee Rory. The dublin airport lost my luggage and I was without anything for 2 days. I needed to leave Galway to go up to Donegal for a wedding and the baggage was out for delivery. Rory received my bag and then arranged for it to make it up to Donegal to me. He went out of his way to make sure I got it. Great hotel and even better staff! Also helps that it's across from 2 fun Bars! read more

During a stay at the Park House Hotel with my family, a problem occurred that was not easily resolved. The hotel staff calmly and courteously handled the issue and resolved it to my satisfaction. In my experience, the best measure of customer service is what the staff and management do when something goes wrong. Their response was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel. I would also recommend the main restaurant for dinner. We had a great meal there. I hope to return the next time I am in Galway. read more

Very nice hotel in the heart of town. Finding the parking lot was a bit of a nightmare but once you found it everything was ok. Lots of construction in town and diverted traffic was the big issue (can't blame them for that). Room was clean and staff very friendly. read more

We stayed at the Park House Hotel on June 6, 2016. The hotel was very pretty and the service was outstanding and the room was very nice. The only thing that was lacking was the food. We would recommend staying here but not for eating. read more

Perfect hotel for a stay in Galway, it's walking distance from the train and bus stations so you won't have to carry your bags far. The rooms are clean and the hotel as free WiFi throughout. The staff are very friendly and given the location of the hotel it's easy to do a walking tour of Galway from here. read more
