Great location in city center. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to Eyre Square and Latin Quarter. Lots of pubs were close by. The room was clean and spacious with a kitchen and 2 bedrooms. The only issue was it was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. The lobby was nice with seating. It also had a restaurant. The breakfast was very good. Live music every night we were there! The hotel staff were all very nice. They were also helpful with directions. The restaurant staff were also great. read more

Really enjoyed my last dinner in Ireland at this restaurant. I was with a group of 20 (my tour group of course), and we all enjoyed our final meal here, without us feeling like we were rushed or hassled. The Fried Brie is super tasty. You only get three of them, but after thinking about it some, it might be for the best that is all you get. Too much would have you running to the bathroom because the cheese is very rich. The Chicken Supreme is delightful. Moist, tender, with great vegetables and a tasty mushroom sauce. I enjoyed this more than I thought that I would. The portion of the chicken is also spot on. The Bailey's Cheesecake was okay. Not quite my thing, but I ate it because when you are on a vacation and the item is free, you eat it. Free-licious is de-licious is not the way I go about my way of dining, but this one I cannot quite write off just because the price was right. If I had to pay for it I would not get it. It seems every hotel shopped at IKEA because they all had the same tiny mini trashcan, mattresses, and winter weight duvets. Unfortunately (fortunately?) it wasn't cold enough to want to snuggle under it for any length of time, but they sure were comfy soft. My travel partner spent a good amount of time securing hotels near public transport or where tours would pick us up. That extra work paid off because we stayed at some of the nicest, most affordable, and perfectly located hotels during our Irish getaway. We enjoyed our stay in Galway. The HOHO bus was a treat allowing us to stop where we wanted. Walking around was easy here though which made it wonderful for shopping and noshing on what was local. Service was terrific, the accommodations were lovely - we'd stay here again for sure. read more

Wonderful hotel with great staff! Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a huge bathtub/shower and the bed was quite comfortable. Daily breakfast was cooked to order for hot items and wait staff was prompt and courteous. Food was delicious! Don't stay at this hotel. It is very pricey for what you get. No air conditioner, so we had to pry the window open only to wake up to construction work occurring in the courtyard that our window overlooked... at 7 am. Complained to the front desk and nothing was done to stop the work and noise. They really don't seem to value paying customers. read more

The hotel is just a short walk to the center of Galway. It has a great bar to grab drinks and meet people. We spent our evenings in it after exploring Galway and met a nice couple from Philadelphia. The room was a bit small but we didn't mind because we don't spend much time in a hotel room. There is too much to see. The bed could have been more comfortable but we slept ok. There was construction going on at the time so our window view was of scaffolding. The main reason we picked this hotel was for the free parking. We were driving a rental car. Parking was very confusing. They have an underground garage in the back of the hotel. There are a few parking places. There is a valet that told us to park in a back spot. It was difficult for us to get the car in the spot so he parked it for us. We didn't know to give him the key. We walked the entire time we were there so we didn't go back to the garage until we checked out. There were several cars that had us blocked in so the valet moved cars around until we finally made our way out. He didn't have keys to all the cars so it was an obstacle course and very stressful. Breakfast was included. Many items were available including sausages, pastries, toast, and many others. Your server asks if you want coffee or tea and you help yourself to the food while they bring you a pot. The food was very good and a great start to the day. read more

This review is for the restaurant. We had an early dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The restaurant has a very classy atmosphere and the staff were wonderful! We started off with spinach and mushroom croquettes which were delicious! I enjoyed a great glass of Tempranillo - perfect with the tender and flavorful lamb shoulder I ordered. My partner ordered fish and chips and enjoyed the flavorful fish in a light batter. Our server gave us time to enjoy our conversation in the quiet ambiance but checked in at just the right intervals to ensure we had everything we needed. So hungry, we went into the hotel's restaurant. Luckily they serve bread as appetiser - a good start for a really nice dinner. I remember looking at the winemenu and thinking, well really good price value - we got a Cote du Rhone Syrah/Grenache for 21€. It was delicious, actually going to check it out in my local wine shop. For main there was sirloin steak with onion rings, hand cut chips and pepper sauce - easy combination, nothing fancy but it came with a great quality! I would definitely to go back, although next time I order rare instead of medium rare as my was done medium - I still liked it. We had desert, me baileys cheesecake, good, but sooooooo filling. My partner had a strawberry and rhubarb crumble - well, I wanted to have it, it was awesome! Remember that when ordering a desert here :)) The service is really good too, they have fun and are very attentive! Overall a great experience - I'll give 4 out of 5 because it gets better, maybe next time ;) read more

Western Hotel is a lovely family run hotel in Galway. The room was really spacious with a double bed, and two twin sized beds. The room rate was incredibly reasonable but the only drawback was out of all the hotels I stayed at in Ireland (which I booked at home in the states), my credit card wasn't charged. I had to pay the hotel cost when I checked in, which is not problematic but slightly perturbing since everything had been budgeted and paid for already prior to leaving home and traveling. The beds in most hotels in Ireland, like most in Europe are not as comfortable as home in the states, but this one was definitely better than most. I would definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Galway...and if going to Ireland, DEFINITELY go to Galway!!! It was the best location by far with superb restaurants and nightlife with music and dancing that can't be missed. read more

Nice little hotel in Galway. Very convenient location, and close to the downtown area. Pretty standard amenities, it was nice that they had a little parking lot underground. The rooms were nice and clean, no air conditioning but the rain kept the room cool. They had a good hotel bar too with live music. read more

The hotel was in a nice location. The room was small, outdated and the bed wasn't that comfortable. Though Ireland doesn't get that warm, it is still muggy and having air conditioning or at least a fan would be nice. Also all the hotels had the same generic Irish breakfast that wasn't real good. Bacon in Ireland is more of a rubber like ham and over priced for the quality of the food. The city of Galway it's was very nice and we enjoyed the convenience of where the hotel was located. read more

I stayed in the apartments that are part of this hotel in Galway over New Year. It was a wet windy night (a surprise for Galway!) and we decided to take advantage of the voucher we received for a free bottle of wine if we went to the restaurant in the hotel. I was expecting the average hotel food and judging the menu it seemed it was average fare. When the starters came out they weren't really great, I had chicken liver pate and it was like something I would just buy in the supermarket. However, the four of us ordered steak and boy, were we pleased!! The sirloin steaks were 10 oz and perfectly cooked (medium rare). The chips were handmade, really chunky and stacked neatly in a lovely Jenga-type pile. It also came with delicious onion rings and pepper sauce. For dessert I ordered chocolate cake and it was perfect, light but oozing warm chocolate. Portions were amazing - the apple pie was a huge chunk of homemade pie. The price for the meal was even better. For four people with 5e steak supplement and a bottle of (free) wine was only 96e! We rolled home that evening to the apartments!! Definitely recommended for a basic simple meal that was cooked well - I give it 5 stars even if the starter wasn't up to scratch. read more

We stayed the night of June 11. Centrally located and clean but the room was very, very basic for the Euro 80 rate. One small soap, no tissue paper, very dim lights, and quite the noise from the street traffic if you leave the window open which you need to to get some air. Even though they advertise Wifi, the reception is a continuous battle with the signal coming and going - a constant complaint of mine in Irish hotels. I had stayed here on Good Friday 2014. Totally missed writing a review. This was the last stop on a week long tour of Ireland. Headed back to Dublin the next day for a flight home on Easter Sunday. The room was nice and clean. The staff were friendly, the front desk girl was a dead ringer for a friend of mine. Unfortunately on Good Friday pretty much everything in the entire country is closed except the hotels and their kitchens (so I didn't get much of a chance to enjoy Galway). Good hotel in Galway with a great location a short walking distance to the main area. Parking is underground and limited, so you have to leave your key with them so they can move the car around. I was a little worried with our rented car, but all was fine. There were two adults, 2 teenagers in a family room with a double and two single beds. We had enough room and the room was fine. Our room didn't face the main street, and noise was not a problem at night with the windows open. WiFi was free, but the signal was very weak in our room. This hotel was in a perfect location! Just a short walk from the train station and the bus/coach station! It is also very close to Eyre square, and a short walk to city center. A good thing about this hotel is that it wasn't very loud on that street! The rooms are a bit small. The shower was also quite small, but the rooms were nice overall. I was disappointed that breakfast does not come with the room. €10 extra if you pay in the morning or if you schedule the night before it is €7. The four stars you see online are not correct! The beds are ancient and hard as rocks rooms are freezing no phones in our room broken doorwall to a tiny balcony. The only good thing about the place is location and the gals behind the desk are friendly. Unless you are looking for a hostel type place with a bathroom in your room stay away! Currently staying in the apartments and will edit my review upon leaving but overall my family and I are extremely disappointed and these apartments have caused us a lot of stress and frustration on what was initially such a nice holiday. Issues so far: DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT: There are practically no signs directing you to anything. The environmentally friendly lights that have motion sensor abilities leave you in creepy darkness. Worst of all, half of this place is a construction site disaster. Holding my toddler, I accidentally took the wrong elevator (again, no signs) to the third floor (EXACTLY as it was written on the "directions" by the way) and was greeted with a hard hat area that had danger signs for live wires and spray foam chemicals. So there I was, completely lost despite following the directions I was given, and it took me to a dangerous place with my child. I was livid. Honestly, at that point we just wanted to leave Galway altogether. Thanks, City Point Apartments. Directions/Location: Do not book these apartments if you are not familiar with driving around Galway. (The ironic Catch-22 being that most people, like us, interested in these accommodations are not.) Yes, the location is central but getting to these apartments is like a comical obstacle course. First, you check in at the hotel, which is a separate building and are given a sheet with a dozen directions. Then you have to get to the car park, which is hidden around a corner. If you miss it, you have to start all over again thanks to the one way streets. Then you have to find very specific car spots and if you have luck like us, they will ALL be taken so you have to contact the hotel to ask what to do. Of course, you are two levels underground by now, so no reception. Tough luck for you. And that is just the beginning. TRUST ME: I can look out the window and see almost a dozen other hotels with central location that aren't confusing to get to. Go there! It will save you so much stress. We wish we did. The word "luxurious": So these apartments are billed using the word "luxury" but I would encourage the Western hotel management to perhaps consult a dictionary. Yes, they are trying to be modern but modern does not equate to luxury. Fancy photos can do a lot but they can't hide the reality of scuff marks on all the walls, dirty windows, cheap decor that is falling off or missing, worn and dirty rugs, broken window shades, and a headboard that is comically lopsided. Overall the impression is a cheap facade that is laughably disappointing. It's like trying to sell my toddler's doodles as a Picasso. Lack of overall common sense: -There are three different key pads on the front door. They don't tell you this, they just give you a code and let you figure it out. Very nice of them to leave you out in the rain guessing like that. -Absolutely no shelving or storage in the bathrooms. You would think people interested in booking apartments might be bringing along some toiletries, right? Apparently the folks at the Western didn't think about that. (Maybe shelves aren't modern or luxurious?) -no coffee maker -no extra blankets -very limited plate/bowl selection. Why would you only put two bowls in an apartment that sleeps 4? -lack of parking -overall lack of communication on hotel's part -no phone. I am guessing they don't really want you to bother them with all these issues. Makes it easier for them. They would rather take your money and stay silent in your apartment. Good luck! It earns one star for space. There certainly is enough room and the apartment gets some nice light and some of them get good views. But they don't use the space well and the other issues distract from enjoying the space. I would not book these apartments if you have older people in your party, children in your party, if you are not familiar with Galway, if you want to have an enjoyable holiday, and if you don't like convoluted directions and communication. As I said, I will update this at the end of our stay. But right now, we all feel pretty ripped off. read more

I would probably give 4.5 stars if possible. We only stayed here one night (August weekday), but the service and hospitality were fantastic. We knew going in that we had to check out early the next morning to make a flight at Shannon airport, and that it would be before the 7am start time for the included breakfast. We only brought up our early checkout time when we checked in to make sure our car wouldn't be boxed in in the garage when we needed to leave (which they were great about ensuring, but probably would have been an issue had we not thought to tell them). When we told the reception person about our 6:30am departure, she seemed genuinely concerned that we wouldn't be getting our included breakfast and offered that the night reception worker could prep a continental breakfast for us before we left (toast/cereal/fruit/coffee/tea). We had already chalked the included breakfast up as a loss based on our own scheduling decisions, but it was delightful to start the day without having to worry about getting coffee or some food in our bellies before hitting the road. Irish hospitality! Also, while the main part of the hotel building is a bit older (making sound carry) and the rooms pretty basic, the water pressure in our shower was actually the best we experienced on our Ireland trip. And the basic room, while small-ish, was still very clean and not lacking in anything we needed for our short stay. read more

The Citypoint Apartments at the Western Hotel are probably one of the best deals and nicest places you can can rent and call your own anywhere in Ireland and maybe anywhere we've been in Europe!! Spacious, modern, convenient, comfortable, the list goes on. We stayed 2 nights in an apartment on the 3rd level that had a walkout patio that overlooked the city. Floor to ceiling windows and a fireplace was icing on the cake. And throw in breakfast every morning and a dinner for a small fee more and you have a 5+ Star resort!! And the food was excellent as was the service. We went Off season and was the best deal of course but even in season it would be worth the cost over equally priced hotel rooms. And a great location, built over the TK Maxx store about a block from Eyre Square with all the great shopping, restaurants, pubs and nightlife. Can't ask for anything more. Whenever we come back to Galway this will be our home away from home!! read more
