For an instant as we entered we thought we were experiencing the scene from Bob Seger's song Turn the Page. We looked at everyone and they looked at us. Like many lounges, they have a high % of local clientele and we clearly were not that. Nevertheless the friendly guy behind the bar welcomed and joked with us as we ordered our food and drinks. The overall place looked spotless and fresh unlike some places that have sticky tables and smell like stale beer. Below is the breakdown: Wings - amongst the largest I have ever seen. They came breaded with Buffalo sauce on the side. They were juicy and delicious even without the sauce. I asked for "hot" and the sauce was Franks straight up which is just right for me. Apparently they offer four Buffalo heat flavors and over a dozen other sauces. Burger - a 1/4 or 1/3 pound burger with standard toppings. Breaded Calamari strips - first time I have encountered Calamari that looked like a fish stick. They were tender and good. Frys - these were amazing. Everyone does frys and it is hard to get excited but these were fantastic. Crisp and medium sized they came out hot and fresh. We think the kitchen is related and shared by the chicken place next door. The service was just right and the gal working the table was super nice and helpful. Prices were more than fair. As we left we said goodbye to a now fully occupied bar and had several farewells come our way. Overall a great place run by great folks.

Up until recently, the food had been consistently superb, which is why my last two visits were disappointing. I previously ordered the beet salad and absolutely loved it. However, during my visit two weeks ago, it was completely different from what's shown on their website and Yelp menu. Instead of being served on a plate with arugula, it came in a bowl with kale. The kale was extremely tough and difficult to chew, and there were very few beets in the salad -- I actually had to search for them. Overall, it felt like a completely different dish from the one I had enjoyed before. Last night, I ordered the seared scallops with corn risotto. I was told they were out of corn and would substitute asparagus, which I agreed to. The corn risotto I've had there before was excellent, with plenty of corn and great flavor. This version, however, looked like half an asparagus spear had been blended into the risotto, so there really wasn't any noticeable asparagus flavor at all. What also stood out was the portion size compared to previous visits. Last year, I remember paying around $26-$28 for this dish and receiving four nice-sized scallops along with a generous serving of real corn risotto. This time, the dish cost $36 and came with five very small scallops -- about quarter-sized. The flavor was still very good, as it always has been, but the increased price combined with noticeably smaller portions left me feeling unsatisfied. The bright spot is the service. The waitresses there are always excellent, friendly, and attentive, which definitely helps the overall experience. Will I return? I'm honestly undecided at this point. It's hard to justify paying $36 and still leaving hungry. In fact, afterward I walked down to the Pikey and grabbed a hamburger -- and that review will be a much happier one. Yum!

There is certainly chicken so if you are hungry or want some pretty good bar food with drinks, there is that, be sure you have your cab money though, its easy to get swept away, its a lot of fun. The staff in general are quite good too. For the part of town you find Chicken N Cheers in I think they do a VERY GOOD job at conducting the overall atmosphere. They aren't there to be baby sitters, they are there to create an atmosphere that people would like to hang out in and they accomplish that in spades; I think that is the sign of a GOOD bar. Having been to many of the bars in town, Chicken N Cheers does it right. I have gone around 5 times now and every time I enjoyed myself. The crowd is generally on the younger side and are sociable. And that is GOOD. I understand that some have maybe judged them a bit too rowdy, but I'd say to those folks the establishment does do a GOOD job at threading that needle, you know "boys will be boys" and to be realistic with those sorts of expectations. Chicken N Cheers lives up to its name, practice your song at home, then bring it by and hand it off to Weezy, please, know your limit, and don't blame them for not being mind readers. 5 Stars.
