One of the best crap cakes I have ever had. I loved this place I just wish the menu had a little more. I know it is at the beach but my wife and kids do not eat seafood so it would be nice it there were some other apps they could eat like cheese sticks or fried mushrooms. If you are going to go here go early for sure the first night we tried was over a hour wait the next night we got there at 5 and sat right down. Also since it is in the village I wish they would have the text you when your table is ready. One of my other favorite places in the village does this and it is great. We put our name in and walk around and once we get the text you have 10 mins to get back. That feature would make me eat at the half shelf a few time per visit. read more

Another place on the beautiful Saint Simon's Island. Again, no view or anything, and I didn't see this place as a "tourist trap" either. Decent prices. Good service. I ordered the crab soup to start. Pretty good, but actually not quite as good as the other seafood place I tried on the island. I ordered fried oysters with green beans and mushrooms. The oysters were awesome. Perfect size, great flavor, just delicious. I am not sure why, but most places in the south don't make green beans the way I like. Not sure why I keep ordering them actually. Mushy, instead of al dente. To me, making them mushy like that makes it seem like a cafeteria type item. Didn't really try anything else, but judging by the oysters, I'd like to come back and try more seafood. Maybe order some different sides. read more

Decent seafood, smaller portions than they should serve for what they charge. I had the GA wild shrimp and husband had BBQ shrimp and grits. Shrimp on both dishes was over cooked and rubbery, which was a shame for such a great local delicacy. Took about 15 mins from seating to take our orders. We don't know if we'd be back. read more

My husband and I LOVED this place!! We came 2 nights in a row because we just couldn't pass up a place we knew was amazing. The first night we had shrimp and grits and crab cakes. Second night we had oysters and my own shrimp and grits creation. I don't eat pork and therefore couldn't eat the shrimp and grits (it has andouille sausage in the BBQ sauce mixture made in the am) BOTH servers each night suggested I do the blackened shrimp which comes with a side so-get the cheese grits and they would give me the BBQ sauce. Had dinner with my husband and was pleased that they were practicing social distancing so we decided to dine inside. Had the Grouper special and the Blue Crab cakes. It was very good! The rest of the family order the crab bisque which I tasted and it was amazing then I ordered the tuna tacos and it had a very refreshing taste the waiter was on top of his game very funny guy the wait for food wasn't long either. I know that these are difficult times and dining out can a problemetic, but we went to Half Shell tonight, and the wait was terribly long. Please be aware that this restaurant seats by table size and not next on the list. If the hostess tells you that she will let you know if a seat becomes available at the bar don't go for it. Also locals can walk up and get a table before folks on the wait list. Just letting you know before you have the same experience that we did. Party of 2 not a large group. We come here often, and always bring any of our visiting guests to The Half Shell. Our guests always demand to go again on their next visit! The crab cakes are good, but I recommend ordering two of the crab cake appetizers and two sides, for a total of $18. Don't be a sucker and order the entree version, because it's the exact same thing but you pay $21. We thought it was peculiar that they kept talking about their special string beans. We were surprised to find out that the raves were well warranted. We went here for Father's Day and so glad we did, the food was amazing and let's not mention their service. Everyone was beyond friendly and professional, they rocked for sure. Their Crab Bisque was delicious, along with the their Cajun Oysters. Connor does an AWESOME job here. It's hard to find a place where the Chef will jump out of the kitchen to help run food, buss tables, and interact with the guests. Oysters raw and cooked, always on point. Lemon and garlic leave you longing for more. Although great seafood, the Cheeseburger is where it's at. 2 glorious patties, cheese, LTO, and a perfectly fried egg on top. Don't forget the curly fries. Well done! read more

Really liked this place. Seems like this is the best place for seafood on St. Simon Island. Service was fast and courteous. Food was outstanding. Crab Cakes and Tuna Tacos were all very good. We split the Catch Of The Day which was Grouper. Our Grouper was grilled with lemon butter sauce and a side order of Sweet Potato Fries and a side of Bacon Wrapped Green Beans. Tonight was our first visit to Half Shell at the Pier. We had five adults and two kids. Everyone was incredibly pleased with their food. At the suggestion of the waitress I ordered the special scallop piccata special. It was mouth-wateringly amazing! Best meal I have had on St. Simons this weekend, possibly best island meal ever. Two of our party had crab cakes and raved about the flavor and meatiness of them. The boiled shrimp was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Silly, but the sidewinder fries were unique on the kids meal, and even my kid who doesn't like fries ate them all. We got Cajun oysters on the halfshell as an appetizer,. Two of us loved them. I loved the flavor and freshness of the oyster, but thought they tasted and smelled more like pepperoni than cajun. Overall I am sold! This is our new favorite spot on the island!
