Honey sriracha falafel platter
Kelvin Z.

Good quality. A couple months ago, I got a coupon at an event where Halal Guys was one of the vendors. The coupon was buy one get one free entree. I haven't decided to use it until today. I called the store first to make sure it was accepted. There seemed to be a bit of doubt at first. This was understandable since the coupon did not have an expiration date or barcode. Nonetheless, they finally accepted it and took my order over the phone. This Halal Guys location is located in the TMC. With that in mind, if you're thinking parking is going to be a hassle then you're right. I personally parked at school nearby and walked so it wasn't much of an issue. I'd imagine most people in the TMC are already parked elsewhere and just walk. If you walk Halal Guys specifically and don't want to deal with parking, then there's a location close by that does have parking. I walked in on a Saturday in the afternoon. I was greeted by the workers who were very nice. I got my order and was able to redeem my coupon without issue. Total was around $12. I ordered a regular chicken platter and a honey sriracha falafel platter, both without tomatoes and extra lettuce. I also got plenty of white sauce (four packets) and two hot sauces which was more than enough. They definitely delivered on the extra lettuce. In my opinion, it was slightly too much to where there was less rice than I would have liked. Though the chicken and falafel servings were generous. The lettuce was lettuce. Chicken was well seasoned and flavorful. The rice in both platters unfortunately did not have muh flavor. Without the white and hot sauce, I think the overall platters would have been lacking in flavor. The slices of pita bread went well with the chicken and falafel as well. Now, if you can't already tell, I ate both platters like the lonely big back that I am. However, I had to eat them over two days. I'm not crazy. The falafel on both days still retained a good crunchy texture on the outside while being moist on the inside. It mainly tasted more sweet, hence the honey, and I would have liked more spice from sriracha. Now, one thing I would like to note from the reheating is that the pita slices were 10x better. Much better texture with a crunch rather than just being a little chewy. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the meal I got from The Halal Guys. Aside from a few minor points, this was definitely worth it and I would certainly come back again.

Hummus

Let the hummus yummus! If you're a Halal Guys fan and work in the Texas Medical Center, this location is a great spot for grab and go, or to pick up a to-go order. Seriously the order ahead option through their app is a lifesaver. However, if you're looking for a more leisurely lunch or a spot to take a break with a coworker or friend, or have never been to Halal Guys, this is probably not it. The line does move quickly during the lunch rush and the staff know what they're doing which is great, however the store is very small with essentially no seating except for a few tables outside. For the food, honestly, I'm just not really a huge Halal Guys fan. To me, it's a bit boring and not flavorful. Plates typically come with rice, which is usually pretty dry. Toppings include diced tomatoes, chopped lettuce, chopped green pepper, chopped onion, a protein, and white or spicy red sauce. Without the sauces the dish is basically flavorless. They do have a few more "premium" toppings including olives and jalapeños but these are an extra charge. It's worth noting that this is how all Halal Guys are run and this is not specific to this location. I'm just looking for a little more wow factor in my meal. I don't come here a lot but when I do, I usually just order a side of hummus to go. The serving size is decent and the texture is smooth and satisfying. It comes with your choice of bagged pita chips or a piece of their fresh pita bread. The fresh pita is tasty but definitely heavier on the carbs if you're trying to watch your diet. Sadly no carrot sticks or other veggie dippers offered. As with the rest of the Medical Center, parking is a nightmare to find so I definitely recommend walking or taking the MetroRail (closest stop is just around the corner). This location is doing all the right things per the brand I'm just not a huge fan of the franchise. If you are planning on visiting, download their app to place your order ahead of time or scan in store to collect points. Enjoy!

Not the best food in town but not bad Order online makes it easy during rush lunch hour in the medical center area

Regular Chicken Shawarma Platter

I am a major fan of halal food and I have frequented this location a handful of times. I am always pleased. This time around I got the chicken bowl. It was very fresh and filling. Service is always efficient and friendly. I don't eat there I always take it home.

I'm always leery of trying an offshoot of the original Halal Guys from NYC, but I'm really glad I did here! The quality and taste is identical to the famous street carts I've ordered from in New York. I got the regular gyro platter which came with lettuce, tomatoes, pita, a bed of savory rice, and a heaping amount of their gyro meat (beef). To make it even better, they lathered it with their creamy white sauce and their spicy red sauce. I also topped it off with complimentary peppers and onions. This was amazing. The lettuce and tomato are just standard cold veggies, but the rice was incredible. It was super savory and had a nice oily coating that made it soft. The meat was also fantastic. It was super juicy and tender, and the amount given was appropriate for the price. Make sure you get extra white sauce because that is what you'll love the most. It's the perfect condiment topping to make anything 10x better. Staff were friendly and very quick in making orders. I'll definitely come back here again when I'm in the Houston area.

Always happy to visit when I am too lazy to cook. Food quality is wonderful, I love the chicken, but the beef is a tad oily. Staff are super nice too. Sheina in particular is always working when I visit and she always goes above and beyond in terms of service. Attentive, cheerful, and always gives great portions. 5/5!!

Hello! The store hours are 10:30am to 10pm daily. Thanks!

It would have been nice if the staff had made it clear or asked if we wanted to add it to our meal. Perhaps there was a mix up with another table. Our experience was otherwise great, but double check the menu for what is complimentary and what isn't.

All 3 meals were really flavorful, good quality, really well-seasoned, very juicy and so delicious. The gyros and burger are without question imo the best in TX. Ekko's and Nick The Greek are 2nd n 3rd for Greek food for me. I always got the gyros sandwich as opposed to the plate before which is odd bc I always prefer meat plates over sandwich form in other foods like bbq, steak, etc. The meat pieces were all really tasty and had some slight char to them too. The taziki sauce is always cold, creamy in feel and refreshing with a good yogurt aroma to it. It's a great bonus and the gyros didn't even need it tbh. The tomatoes were nicely refreshing and the exotic, cool center dolma is always a little treat with meals here. The rice and chunky lemon potatoes with my meals were always mild but still great in texture and prep. As I said before; from my experiences in every single Greek cafe, if the taziki sauce is good, the gyros will be too. It's a solid symptom and indicator imo. As for the burger, very rarely are burger places only in TX actually any good for the past 15 years. So many are just average or below lacking seasoning or a great overall flavor. Niko Niko's, Goode Company Hamburgers and TX Hamburger Palace are my top 3 in that order for it. Each different too. The brioche buns were just the right thickness and very soft to make the beef patty stick out well. The patty was so nice in charbroiled taste, saltiness, richness, beefiness and tender in every bite. A good burger doesn't need much in toppings, but cool, refreshing, tomatoes are a must for me and pickles add some tangy crunch too. For steak rare, but for a burger medium to medium rare. I had never seen or heard of their Greek Spaghetti n Meat Sauce before. This was like a Greek Bolognese with a lot of love in its flavor. The noodles were drained, very moist and so soft. I don't like too much cheese, so I took some off, but still like some. The meat sauce gravy itself was really flavorful, savory, fatty enough and had that subtle sweet, warm spice aroma you get in the Greek lasagna. I like to get dessert here sometimes when I have extra room, bc they have some great options like their galaktobourreko, chocolate ganache cake, etc. The service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient on these visits.

The place is new but not recently new, so I was impress that they were still attracting a crowd. The place was packed and busy but the host was still able to seat us immediately. With reservation, of course. Our seat was a banquet seating and when the host directed us to our table, we notice the party seated next to our table had placed all their personal belongings on our seats. We had to ask the host to ask them to remove their personals so that we can sit down. I felt that the host should have done that and not upon our request. Our server was Keamogetswe and she jumped right into explaining the menu since it was our first time. I am used to ordering drinks first and while waiting for our drinks, explore the food menu. That way, we can ask questions about any item we were unfamiliar with on the menu. Anyways, we ordered our food and they came out very fast. For starters, we had the grilled shrimp which was just two shrimps. They were not prawns so the size of the two shrimps for $18 was not worth it to me. We also tried the Rumi's wings. They were average to me. Nothing to brag about. For the main course, we wanted to try several dishes and settle for a family style meal. We had the braised lamb shank, chicken kabob and the Koobideh Kabob. Since all plates came with rice, Keamogetswe suggest we try different rice options which was a great suggestion. So for the rice, we had the Adas, the Baghali and the Shirin. I have to admit that the braised lamb was amazing. The stew it sat in was very flavorful and the meat melted off the bone it came with. The Koobideh was also another favorite of mine. Both, I highly recommend everyone to try. And my favorite rice was the Shirin. As we moved on to dessert, we had the burnt honey & pistachio cake and the persian ice cream sandwich. Both taste great but the persian ice cream sandwich itself was vanilla wafer. Different but it made it easier to eat with your fingers. The weird thing was when the dessert was served to us, so was the check. I am used to us eating dessert or just starting to enjoy dessert before being handed the check. And when they do hand me the check, they would mention that it was no rush and when I am ready to take care of it. But that didn't happen and I decided to get it out of the way so I can just enjoy the dessert. As we were conversing and finishing our drinks, they started to clear our table and even picked up the signed check or tab. It felt like they were hinting us to get up. I feel that if there was a time frame to dine with them, they should have made us aware of it before dinner or when we made reservation like how Toca Madera does. So that made me feel uncomfortable. But this could just be me.
