    Chicken and gyro combo platter
    Stanley S.

Solid fast casual halal platter spot near the med center. I tried the combo platter with lamb and chicken over rice. The chicken was marinated really well, lamb gyro was fresh, and rice was seasoned well. The salad was also filling and not just lettuce and tomato like most platter spots. Probably as good of a deal as you'll find in this area.

We love this place for quick, affordable, yet tasty gyro/rice plates. It's along OST near the Med Center. Super friendly staff. Large portions. Well seasoned and flavorful. Never overcooked or dry. They also make fresh juices and have crisp crinkle cut fries that you can have plain or loaded with tons of meat and other toppings. More photos to be added soon!

Doing errands in the area and was in the mood for Middle Eastern food for lunch. I decided on this shack because of good Yelp reviews. I ordered the combo platter with chicken, lamb, rice, and salad. I requested white and red sauces on the side. There was lots of proteins in the platter and the salad was fresh. The rice could used a little more seasoning. The sauces were delicious and I ended up dumping all the sauses in the platter. Counter helps were friendly and quick. Prices were appropriate for the quantity and quality of foods.

Swung by for a quick lunch to take home. This kind of food is my favorite and there are a lot of similar options in Houston, but they do it quite well. Very quick to take my order once I walked in! Lots of available parking. I got a Chapli kebab platter and chicken platter. Both come with yellow rice, choice of meat, and then mixed lettuce/onions/tomato/chickpea/corn salad. Simple but effective, fresh and delicious. Not a whole lot of added salt which I really like. Chapli kebab was cooked fresh and absolutely packed with flavor and spices. Chicken tasted excellent as well. They give ample red & white sauce on the side. Looking forward to ordering again soon!

By far the best gyro over rice I have tried in a long time. Place in a medical center.

Absolutely loved the food here! Food always comes out fresh! Service is friendly and fast! Sometimes they can get super busy, but the wait is never too long. Flavor is on point! Also, very convenient that they are close to the medical center and open late!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a great, fast casual spot near the med center.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They're definitely a great spot for a quick NY style chicken rice plate but very clean and orderly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is always quick and efficient but not the place to expect like a whole sit down, waiter, tableside service type of spot. I've had the gyro platter and gyro fries, both of which are great. For the price, the platter is 2 meals for me so definitely worth the cost. The food itself also tastes great, though I do wish the red sauce were a bit spicier. The gyro fries are a "side" but I found it to be a good single portion of food. I always get the lamb and its nice, juicy chunks of gyro. Best part for me is that its open late night and very close by. I always love finding late night spots, esp ones that have fries cause that's my go to late night food. Location, cost, taste, and hours all set this to be a top spot for me.

My friends and I went to try Gyro Hut near our school. I got the lamb gyro platter over rice, which also includes lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumber, corn, black olives, jalapeño, giardiniera, chickpeas, sliced pickles, and signature white and hot sauce. The lamb gyro was really juicy and tender, it did. It have a gamey taste either. I really loved the rice as well. The other toppings go well with the platter as well. They add some freshness and texture to the platter.

Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.

For food, we usually start with an appetizer and split the mixed shawarma plate. This last time we shared a Greek salad as an appetizer. Fresh and delicious as always. One of our sides was the baba ghanoush, which was incredible. Dont get me started on the pita it comes with....Warm, soft, and fresh. It takes everything in me not to demolish the whole basket. For our other side, we always get the potatoes. They're perfectly seasoned with a slight sweetness and a little kick. Hands down my favorite side dish here! The portions are generous too.
