Not going to lie I was disappointed by Gyro King. I love Greek food and was happy to see them open. I ordered just a traditional gyro and opted for fried on the side instead of inside. The gyro came out quick which was nice. The fries were also nice and hot, but extremely salty. The gyro was bland which was also disappointing and it did not have enough tzatziki on it for my liking. All in all it filled the hunger craving for a gyro so it did its job.

    I. Love. Gyro. Kings. First off, the owner is the sweetest man ever! He is so kind, attentive and helpful! The food is delicious! I enjoy the plates because I can pile on my pitas with a variety of different foods. The combo plate comes with 3 different meats and it's nice getting to try all of them! The tzatziki sauce is light and refreshing, I usually need at least 2 for me personally haha. Pita is fluffy and I usually order a second order of it because I chow down on those quick! It's located in Edgewater Marketplace and the wait isn't ever long. Definitely one of my favorite food stalls in Edgewater Marketplace

I would have loved to give this place a 5 star because the food was delicious but I was very disappointed with how the manager treated one of their employees (Kara) right in front of us while ordering food from their restaurant. The manager rudely snatched a to-go box from their employee. It was uncalled for. Kara was amazing though. Such a positive and friendly demeanor. Again, food was delicious but not sure if I want to support a business where the owner treats their employees poorly.

Service is always lacking as is the food. The best things to order are the soup and grape leaves in my opinion.

Many more had shown up here before we left, however. As it was happy hour, we tried three different appetizers: falafel with hummus, dolmas, and harissa carrots. All were delicious and ended up being rather filling. My wife and I both had the lamb gyros, while my daughter had the chicken shawarma. While the dishes didn't appear to be a huge amount of food, they ended up being plenty. Everything had really nice flavor. As it was my wife's birthday, she got the free baklava for dessert. My daughter and I both thought it was fantastic...maybe one of the better baklavas we've had in a long time. My wife thought it was fine but has had other versions she'd liked better. Service was quick and strong from the start. All food came out surprisingly fast. We'd come here again if on/near Tennyson Street and in the mood for a good Mediterranean experience.

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because the price differential between these two items is about $5 and instead of itemizing our receipts, our waiter just split it in two, overcharging my friend and undercharging me. It seemed very incongruent to the rest of our otherwise excellent experience here.

The interior is charming with a slim upper level row of tables. The food! Oh my! Some of the best food I've had eating out for a long time! I'm so glad I chose the combination plate which gave me the choice of 3 entree portions and soup or salad. I had the soup avogolemono and spanakopita, moussaka, and chicken souvlaki over rice. (Sorry if I spelled these wrong) All three were divine! The seasoning each one was complex and so flavorful. These chefs know how to cook great food! The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable, is that the restaurant was really hot! I ordered a dessert that was described as similar to a flan. I was expecting something cold, but it was hot out of the oven! So it came home with me and I will chill it before finishing. It didn't occur to me that it could be a warm dessert. It was a very tasty rich, thick custard with a lite creamy sauce sprinkled with cinnamon. My overall experience was fantastic due to the delicious food and friendly staff. My server was extremely attentive- I regret that I don't recall his name as I'm writing this, but I'm sure it can be figured out! He said he's worked with the family for around 20 years. If I lived closer, this would be a neighborhood regular.

It's small and intimate. The menu has something for everyone & the prices are veryyyy reasonable. We started with a couple glasses of wine and the calamari. The calamari was perfectly fried and had 2 sauces and pita. The tzatziki was amazing. I could eat with a spoon! Next we shared the central Grecian Greek platter... and WOW!! I was shocked by how large the platter was. It was piled high with the most delicious gyro & other meets, veggies, salad, feta, and olives. the platter came with more tzatziki and pita and a delicious and light dressing. We had more than enough for ourselves for dinner & another meal! We ended with dessert: One baklava and one bougatsa. The baklava was delicious, but the bougatsa stole the show. It's like a filled funnel cake - how could you not love!! Our server Francisco was so attentive and enjoyable. He was personable, warm and welcoming. At one point the restaurant was packed, but he made sure we were always taken care of. We will be back, that's for sure! Some of the best Greek food I've ever had in a very comfortable, family owned establishment - hard to beat!

The flavor on everything is elevated and fresh!! We had hummus w/pita, falafel, and fries to start. Amazing falafel! Perfectly crispy outside and pillowy inside. For entrees, I had the lamb gyro which was one of the best I've had. The lamb is perfection and they wrap it in a roti instead of pita which was absolutely the move! The house-made pickled veggies served with it were amazing as well and really balanced the nice waiting of the lamb gyro. My wife got the Caesar salad with chicken Shawarma. That was Incredible as well! Try a side of the Harrissa in the zhug sauces to add a little fresh heat! The restaurant has great ambience with some Moroccan type vibes and a great patio. There is a 20% service charge automatically added to every check which is what it is. But for this level of flavor, it's worth it plus tip!

The bartenders and waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and professional. If I were rating only those things, this would be an easy 5 stars. Then the yellow rice arrived cold and crusty. We sent it back. It came back slightly improved but still not properly hot. After a few bites, we found a piece of plastic in it. The half chicken was a mixed bag. The crispy skin was delicious and well seasoned, but the chicken itself was served only lukewarm. Some pieces were moist and enjoyable, while others, especially toward the end, were noticeably dry. It wasn't bad, but had I known it would be served that way, I probably would have ordered something else. The kitchen issues alone would have dropped this to 4 stars. What pushed it down to 3 stars was the billing. A 20% service charge had already been added, yet the payment process still encouraged an additional tip. If you're not paying close attention, it's very easy to leave 40% on an already expensive meal. Whether intentional or not, it feels confusing and misleading. Even if it's disclosed somewhere on the menu, that doesn't make it customer friendly. Customers should not have to do math or hunt through fine print like a budget airlines to figure out what their meal actually costs. Build your labor costs into the menu price and be transparent. Surprise fees create frustration and leave customers feeling misled, regardless of how many disclaimers are printed. To their credit, they removed a couple of drinks from the bill, and I want to be clear that the staff handled the situation professionally. The problem was not the servers. The problem was a kitchen that missed the mark and a shady billing practice that leaves customers with a bad taste in their mouth at the end of the meal. Great hummus. Great pita. Great cocktails. Great service. Cold rice. Plastic in the food. A chicken dish that didn't quite live up to the hype. Confusing service fees. That's how a restaurant that could have been 5 stars ends up with 3.
