Small eaters menu

Comfort food all in one place Haven't had one thing I didn't like! Love that they have a smaller menu for those with smaller appetites.

Skewers were amazing
Jovina B.

We ordered several pasta dishes including bolognese, simple pasta and their spinach and garlic rollatini. They were good. We also had stuffed mushrooms, oven baked ricotta and Dijon chicken skewers shareables. We all voted for the skewers as the best one. Not a fan of the ricotta. We also ordered the bomba, crème brûlée and the mascarpone cake. Definitely get the bomba. Service was excellent. Lizzy was friendly, professional and so helpful. She was also patient and responsive. Lizzy was happy to answer all my questions. Place was huge and is tucked around the corner of the strip mall. We had a little difficulty finding the place but they did have signs. Can't really see it from the parking lot. You have to get out of your car then you will see the sign lol. Lots of parking!

Breakfast Lasagna Rollatini made with ricotta scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hollandaise rolled in a lasagna pasta sheet

I keep hearing from a few people that this is a hidden gem so we had to try it out. I am a sucker for a great breakfast/brunch! We stopped in mid day to check it out. It wasn't too busy - just a few tables full when we arrived. The server was really nice and welcoming and had some good recommendations for food. She shared how they make so much from scratch that is unique and delicious! We really wanted breakfast today so we tried the Sweet Pull apart which is made with Italian bread baked with cinnamon butter, caramel, and vanilla ricotta icing. OMG......it was better than a cinnamon roll, uniquely made with the vanilla ricotta icing that did not disappoint! It was perfectly crusty on the outside and buttery and soft on the inside with cinnamon and caramel - all at the same time. Definitely a great dish to share at the table for breakfast if you are in the mood for a breakfast sweet but don't want French toast or pancakes. We also dove right in to try a unique savory dish - we tried the Breakfast Lasagna Rollatini because it sounded so intriguing and nothing we have ever had before. It is made with ricotta scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hollandaise rolled in a lasagna pasta sheet. Again - this is divine! The perfect cheese skirt along with the rich ricotta eggs and the hollandaise sauce - the sausage was really flavorful as well. 10 out of 10 recommended! We were talking to our server and she said they have a whole calendar each month of events - Trivia nights on Tuesday, couples dinner specials, live music and improv nights. I love that it is a small local business and it is tucked back in a quiet shopping center in Rio Linda - we almost didn't find it but we were on a mission! We will definitely be back to try lunch and dinner at some point - perhaps even for an event.

It's a cute little place in Rio Linda for brunch with friends or a date night. They have a good variety of appetizers, sandwiches and other Italian dishes. The server was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the candied bacon and a few other items on their menu.

We stayed overnight in the area and were looking for breakfast. I saw a Yelp review raving about the sweet pull-apart bread and wanted to try it. Glad we did! It was great. We also really enjoyed the candied bacon. Service was spot on. This is a friendly gem. Give it a shot!

Bolognese Lasagna Rollatini

What a great hidden gem! Great service & delicious food. We had the Shrimp Michelangelo, Bolognese Lasagna Rollatini, and Simple Pasta with Garlic cream sauce & chicken. All of the dishes were great, but the stand out was my shrimp Michelangelo! I would get that over and over again. We are looking forward to dining there again, and trying more of the menu. I also got the pistachio cannoli to go, and wow were those fantastic!!

The Grotto is a tasty addition to Rio Linda- a place many might consider Sacramento's backwater. As of this writing, The Grotto has only been open about a week... so while they are still working things out, the food really shines. THE PROS: The ambiance is like a fine dining cafeteria. Linens and real table settings in a large casual space. Not stuffy at all, and no paper napkins or plastic forks. The food was delicious. All the food, including the pasta was fresh. Sauces were on point. . Our pasta came with an oversized hunk of crusty garlic bread. The prices were in-line with any mid-town eatery, each of our entrees was in the low $20s. A nice touch is that a cup of hot fresh "cowboy" coffee is only $2 THE CONS: While not really an issue, the staff is new and still coming up to speed, so for now allow a bit of time and grace with your meal. Deserts were quite tasty, but they due run about $10 apiece. THE BOTTOM LINE: Yes, eat here. If you are anywhere near Rio Linda, it really is nice to have a place that knows the locals actually do appreciate food that you don't eat in a car, but that jeans and a hoodie are not a problem. There really is a little something for every taste, and it should only get better over time

That's Amore

Yes! A 5!!!! Absolutely amazing. It is a hidden table-clothed gem, off the beaten paths of Sacramento or Roseville, situated in Rio Linda. I had a half of Pepperoni Pizza. Doesn't sound like much but it did have an incredible rustic crust with high quality cheese and peperoni over a light red sauce. My girlfriend had Baked Ratatouille over mashed potatoes with a side of grilled high quality green beans and tomatoes served with a generous chunk of Hot Rustic Bread. Dessert was That's Amore, a flourless chocolate cake that was more to me like a light chocolate fudge covered with a compote of Blueberries ( I think) and Blackberries. Simply delicately presented and oh so good. It is now my personal favorite...and I am pretty finicky.

flat bread pizza

what a great place. good service great food the restaurant is kind of hard to find. but worth it the flat bread pizza is unbelievable great price and filling

The grotto has the best flat bread pizza I have ever had this flat bread is called the grotto

I am a pizza lover from the heart and I have to say that I have never had flat bread pizza and this place and their food is à taste of heaven. The people and the restaurant is a place for the young at heart and the family. So if you need a place for you and a loved one or your family this is a place to go. I give this place 5 stars across the board

We had our first time here after seeing them on the Rio Linda page on Facebook. This place is a real gem for Rio Linda and North Sacramento residents. Cody was our server, and he was absolutely fantastic! My husband ordered the Braised pork shank, and it was incredible. The meat fell off the bone and was so tender, giving it a 10/10. And get this, their garlic bread is to die for! It's better than any we've ever had. I went with the Cottage pie with beef, and it was absolutely delicious, also a 10/10. I wanted more. The mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy and flavorful. They also have a variety of desserts and host events that bring the community together.

Yummy ! wow ! the best chicken soup, ever ! and the chicken bacon club on grilled rustic bread was to die for . filling, rich and so satisfying. this place is a culinary gem ! thank you !

Decided to visit the grotto as I wanted to take the family out for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. The restaurant is brand new and it's very much in the new stage. The service was outstanding! The food was phenomenal and the music, well let's just say was top tier! Shan Q who was s top 10 contestant on "the voice " was performing and he even sang happy birthday to my wife... I had the chicken Florentine and I highly recommend it, my wife had the lasagna and it was definitely one of the best lasagna that I've ever had.

I hadn't been since last summer and was happy to return. Parking can be a bit hectic, but once you're inside, the atmosphere makes up for it. It's a family-owned spot, and you can feel it right away -- everyone is kind, welcoming, and takes the time to check in on you. We came for breakfast, but they also offer lunch and barbecue options, so there's plenty to choose from depending on when you go. They've also expanded and now have a location in Elk Grove. I ordered the French toast plate, which came with thick-cut slices of bread, eggs, and bacon. The French toast was soft on the inside with a nice golden finish, full of flavor without being overly sweet. The eggs were well seasoned, and the bacon was cooked just right. BB ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a side of grits. The burger was juicy with grilled onions and melted cheese, and the fries had that crispy, beer-battered texture. Everything came out hot and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for comfort food with genuinely friendly service. Definitely planning to come back -- especially for the biscuits and gravy next time.

Seasoned perfectly. Comes with 2 waffles. They're thinner but it was great because it didn't over power the chicken. Chicken breast was big enough that we were able to split it and still be full asf. Kids chocolate chip pancakes was good too. Fresh and crispy edges. The fruit it comes with was a good amount. Nothing was wasted. Mashed potatoes were moist buttery and didn't need any gravy! Mac n cheese was good. Great option for kids.

It is a very casual setup, so do not expect an elevated dining experience. We ordered the FOB shrimp and the Chicken Katsu plate. The shrimp arrived a bit too sour and noticeably greasy for my taste. The Chicken Katsu was average and lacked the flavor and crispness I was hoping for. The macaroni and cheese that came with it was also quite dry, which made the plate feel incomplete. Service is minimal since you order at the counter and pick up your food yourself. I went in with high expectations and left feeling disappointed, especially considering how popular the place seems to be. That said, I am still open to giving it another try. There are a few other dishes on the menu that look promising, and I hope they will deliver a better impression on my next visit.

The menu changes depending on what they're making, but they have certain items that are pretty consistent. One of those is poke. I LOVE their poke here, they have their own seasoned poke mix with fresh fish, veggies and sauce and it is delicious. They offer it as nachos, a bowl, or loaded fries and while I'm tempted to try some of the other options the bowl is my go-to. The poke bowl is $15 and comes with rice with furikake as well as a good portion of poke. Like I mentioned, it's preseasoned and it delicious. The ingredients are fresh and I love their flavor combination. I would love if the bowl came with a scoop of mac salad, but with the portion at this price I'm happy to add it as a side. I ordered the spring rolls ($4) and it came with five pieces of crispy and flavorful fried spring rolls. Great value for the price. I also ordered the pork laulau ($14) and Musubi ($3) for my husband and the portions on these were also great. The musubi was hot and flavorful and they gave me some FOB sauce with the musubi that went surprising well together. The laulau plate had mac salad, rice, and the wrapped pork. The pork was fattier than some of the laulau I've had in Hawaii, but was flavorful and the whole plate was a perfect portion for the price. The team working here was very friendly and helped me get in and out with my to-go order pretty quickly. The food was packed with care and made it home and was still nice and hot after the drive. They use high quality to-go containers and line them with aluminum foil which is a nice touch. They also made sure the vents were open on the spring rolls so they'd stay crispy. They have plenty of seating inside, as well as some outdoor seating. This restaurant is a bit tucked away, but has plenty of parking. I will definitely be back, and I won't wait as long between visits, because the food is so good! Check out their instagram for specials.

We learned on our very first visit how good the gumbo is and it's become a must ever since. The people who work here are friendly and you can tell they have a lot of regulars who stop in for food. There's a gravel lot right next to the building and you can take your food to go or enjoy it there. Our food took about 15-20 minutes and then we took it home to enjoy. The portions are definitely fair for the price. They also pack everything well for the ride home. The gumbo is our favorite, it's flavorful and packed with protein like their sausage, chicken, and shrimp and has just a hint of spice. We tried their riblets for the first time and it was a generous portion and we really enjoyed the bbq sauce they used. The mac and cheese is good, but I like mine creamier. It does have a little spice which was nice. The dressing was packed with flavor and we were excited they offered this side because you don't see it everywhere. Their hot water cornbread is definitely something they're known for and is really good on its own or dipped into the gumbo. The Palmer here tastes like Brisk raspberry tea mixed with lemonade, and we really enjoy this twist on it. Overall this spot is a local gem and we love visiting.

(I found this restaurant by accident on Google.) I decided to stand there and review the very clear appetizing menu, taking a moment to soak in this unusual eating spot. I enjoyed the uniqueness and creativity of the layout--you have to be here to understand it. Anyway, as I was standing there, I heard a very pleasant voice ask, "May I help you?" I reached up and turned up my "pretend" hearing aid to make sure I heard that voice coming from a professional Young Queen. It made me forget I was at a soul food establishment! Usually, I am greeted with rolling eyes, laziness, and--most of all--attitude. (See one of my old podcasts link below regarding my opinion on soul food restaurants on iHeartRadio): https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-david-mack-show-105280474/episode/lena-s-soul-food-in-oakland-ca-119449772/?cmp=android_share&sc=android_social_share&pr=false Back to my review: Her name is Victoria... like the Queen! I told Victoria I was looking at the menu, which has a very nice variety of soul food selections. Victoria asked me if I would like to sample the gumbo. Sure! Victoria came back with a small, teasing sample, and after tasting it, I told her, "SOLD!" Just from the taste of that gumbo, I knew my Mother's Spirit was back there doing the cooking. It was a very cold day, and I would have eaten there, but because of the layout, I ordered the family size to-go. The gumbo also comes with hot water cornbread. Victoria took my order, my payment, and advised me it would be ready in five minutes. I waited in my car. I came back in four minutes, and my order was already bagged and ready for pickup. I "suffered" during the hour-long drive home, smelling the aroma of that meal the whole way! Finally home, I opened the secure bag, filled to the top container, and took out the prize. The food presentation was excellent! I put the gumbo in a bowl, and it was still very hot. I then proceeded to taste my meal: Rice: Nice and fluffy! Chicken: Flavored perfectly. Soup Juice: Perfect. Prawns: Excellent. Sausage: Plump and sliced perfectly. All many other ingredients: Very tasty with a hint of spice. Note: There were no crab legs to make a mess (which I did NOT miss) and no slimy okra (which was great)! The sweet hot water cornbread was very buttery and looked like a thick pancake. I put mine in the toaster oven to warm it up and get it a little crisp. It was amazing! That gumbo not only warmed me up, but it also put me to sleep like a big baby! If this restaurant continues with the trajectory of this review (professional attitude, unique layout, and great menu items), they will be the "go-to" soul food spot on the 80! I wouldn't change a thing! I will return because I want to report on another food item I had my eye on before the gumbo sample! Go check out this spot and see the Young Queen Victoria! Make sure you tip her for great service (No Tax On Tips), just like I did! David Mack (Reviewer-in-Chief)

I ordered standard breakfast fare...two eggs (sunny-side up), two sausage links, with homestyle potatoes and sourdough toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly! Then I realized I got bacon instead of sausage and the waitress brought me two links at no charge. Great service! But the breakfast sausage was horrible. No kidding, frozen Brown n Serve sausage is better than this. On the other hand, the bacon was delicious perfectly cooked. The homestyle potatoes were fine (but needed the available Tabasco) but I'd rather just have regular hash browns. The sourdough toast tasted just like white bread (maybe it was?) and was pre-buttered. I can butter my own toast, thanks. It wasn't a bad breakfast but nothing great either.
