Google Maps and fate led us to the Grind. My husband and I were headed up to Wasilla from Seward and decided to make a pit stop in Girdwood. I typed "coffee" into Google Maps and The Grind was the first place listed. We pulled up and didn't expect much to be honest. Once inside, we ordered two coffees and proceeded to have one of the most genuine and refreshing interactions with the owner Gator and barista Jeff. The coffee was delicious and the good company was even better. We could have hung out there all day. Now that I've read other Yelp reviews, I'm glad to see that we are not alone in our positive experience. I hope this business thrives indefinitely. read more

This was a really chill place to grab a coffee and a waffle. The flavor of the waffle was appropriately sweet and the texture far exceeds that of your standard Belgian waffle. If I need to have breakfast in Girdwood, I'll get coffee from the grind and then go across the street to pick up breakfast at the Hightower. Delicious coffee, I got an iced vanilla latte with added English toffee syrup and I drank it so fast that I couldn't get a picture! Hit the spot for sure. There is also some fun books, games, trinkets, etc on the wall while you wait in line if there is one. We didn't get any food but there were some waffles that looked really good that other people were eating. Service was slower but that was mainly because it was bussssyyyyy during Girdwood days. I strolled down here for a leisurely late morning, midsummer coffee. Upon entering, you know you're in for a treat. The walls are decorated with pop culture art on canvases with abstract landscapes thrown in. There's a Periodic Table of Elements throw on the nearby couch, jar candles to pop culture icons, Narwhal-horn shaped mints, and a whole collection of memes sandwiched under the glass on the counter. My favorite part of this cafe is simply that its not a vessel just for tourism as much of Girdwood has become. Having stayed there a little over an hour, it seems more of a mixture between locals and travelers alike. The barista was absolutely the best. I typically don't have coffee drinks with whipped cream, but I have to say their mocha is really fantastic with some. Considering they have an in-house coffee grinder you can see from the front window, I trust this location knows its beans. The location is a welcome reprieve from more touristy areas, and even those who enter seem to adopt a different countenance upon walking in. Kind, no-nonsense, efficient service with delicious coffee. Waffles seem a particular specialty, but I'll have to save that bite for next time. read more

Totally worth the 5-minute detour off the road to AWCC. I had a delicious mocha and my wife had an excellent Irish cream cappuccino. They roast their coffee beans daily, and also have a lot of quirky knickknacks to browse and buy. 10/10. read more

This is a treasure in such a small town. We visited while Covid precautions are still in place, and it was perfect. We ordered outside and had a lovely covered table to sit at. The coffee was amazing- they had all different options as well as milk alternatives (soy, coconut, almond, oat, etc) which was a huge win. They also had great waffles (even gluten free options). Place is dirty, in a trailer park... I was surprised when the trailer park seemed more delightful than the inside of this business. The bagel was not cooked you have to cook it yourself I guess ? The guy taking my order said that he missed working at Starbucks and he wishes his place could be more like them. The coffee was good though, as I would expect from a barista. Stopped in for an unplanned visit as we were passing time while waiting for a table to open up for dinner at a nearby restaurant. Tristan gave us the best service and accommodations for our waiting period. He fixed yummy hot chocolates for the four kiddos in our party, a London Fog for my friend, perfect cappuccino for me, and even gave us samples of their apple cider vinegar immunity boosting shots!
