Staff was friendly and helpful. Hubby loved the draft beer, Matanuska snow bike white. Pricing was on-par with most places. Not cheap but no gouging. Would absolutely go back.

Then, let's talk about how the floor slopes as if you're in one of those mystery spot places that evokes a vague sense of vertigo. Now let's speak of the smell, did someone burn some cleaning solution on the grill? Now we need to talk about the food. They ran out of grilled chicken, but they were able to produce chicken parmigiana. How is this possible? After an interminable wait, the mysterious chicken parm arrived and it made 7/11 hot dogs taste like gourmet food. My partner ordered local halibut fish and chips. The cook must hate himself, people, and halibut. Somewhere under some nasty crust, may have been some halibut, but it also may have been left over sushi crab or perhaps packing peanuts. This place exists in a land of fish - how do you screw that up? Now let's talk about the scam. We were informed that they had run out of regular French fries, so they would be substituting sweet potato fries as the included side. When the bill came, we were charged $4 extra per person for the upgraded fries. I would have loved to stay and argue about this, but the world was passing us by during the time we had spent sitting there waiting for this mediocre meal. Total for crappy chicken parm, and sad pretend halibut, and a beer that got warm by the time the food arrived was $62. Anchorage is only an hour and a half farther down the road. Just drive on. Or hunt for your own food, berries and fish and whatever else you can scavenge will taste better.

We stopped in today on the way back from Homer. We knew they had been up for sale for some time,…read moreand our server confirmed it was now under new management. The menu was different but I was happy to see they still had the chicken wrap on there. It went downhill from then. I asked for a Gold Medal Chicken Wrap, with crispy chicken (ranch was not an option, previously it was my go-to choice) you could have hot wings sauces, or honey BBQ - and this is my bad, I initially thought that it said honey mustard, so I said honey mustard. It came with a choice of tater tots onion rings or fries. I chose tater tots, but changed my mind to fries. Husband just ordered a piece of carrot cake. I was very disappointed with this wrap, not just in comparison to the wrap that used to be available, but just as a wrap being offered by a restaurant in general. The honey bbq sauce (I had asked for some on the side, to dip it into) was red. And I couldn't taste any BBQ smokiness. It was very tomatoey. I queried about my honey-mustard error, and she showed me the menu, and that mistake was definitely on me. I asked if she had some ranch I could use as a dip, and was brought some. So anyway, the wrap - loosely wrapped and quite floppy, and warm, as though it had been grilled or broiled, which rendered the lettuce leaf and tomato slice warm, limp and floppy. The previous wrap from Sunrise, and most other wraps in restaurants where I've had them, will serve an unwarmed tortilla with raw crunchy vegetables. The Sunrise previously did so - lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, shredded cheese, julienned carrots and crispy chicken in a cool creamy ranch dressing, it was a tightly wrapped, crunchy delight, and out of this world. I recommended it to anyone passing that way. The best thing I have to say about this one, is that there was plenty of chicken and it was tender. There was too much of the honey bbq sauce in it though, and the chicken wasn't crispy anymore, the breading had gone very soggy. It was a disappointment. As were the tater tots, when I had requested fries. The server was pleasant enough, and I tipped her well, but I wasn't happy with the food at all. Won't be returning anytime soon

This hotel was by far the worst place that we had stayed on our trip to alaska out of all seven locations. You check in at the restaurant.Although we had to go into the bar to find somebody to check us in and get us a key to the room. The guy was really nice. That checked us in and the price was right. Unfortunately, that was where the good things ended did. The place is clearly very dated, which is totally fine. There are random holes all along the wall, where it looks like other things used to be. Our friends were staying in the room next to us and their carpet was absolutely disgusting. Thankfully, we had some sort of vinyl on our floors. So that it wasn't that bad. Her bedding had multiple tears in it. Nothing in the room matched from the towels to the sheets. When we pulled back the sheets of the bed, there were little specks of what looked like dirt all along the bed, and it appeared that the sheets had not been cleaned. Thankfully, we had each brought a blanket. So we were able to use that to sleep with. It really, truly did feel dirty though sleeping in that bed. We only had two towels in our room for 4 people, so my husband went and asked for another. The only thing that they could give him was an extra hand towel. When I turned on the shower, the way that the shower head was facing the water, just completely shot right out of the shower stall leaving water all over the floor and no good towels to clean it up.

Further there are a couple of easy, scenic walks on the property. A 1 mile fairly flat nature trail through a wooded area and a 1-2 mile walk to and along the river, also fairly flat (albeit there is a hill with a phone at the bottom, Princess will send a shuttle to retrieve you). We used it as a base for walking the Russian River and Russian Lakes trail (to the first lake), both highly recommended. With more time we would have headed to Juneau Falls...there are a ton of hikes in the area, all which sound tremendous. Could also be used as a base for Seward and exploring the Exit Glacier/Harding Icefield hikes. Have fun! Oh. The rooms. Kinda rustic but clean and spacious, a wood burning stove and TV (used neither), balcony, and very importantly a laundry. Which we made good use of. Check in. We arrived at ~1:30 and lying in wait was a sugary sweet desk clerk who *very* sweetly and in no uncertain terms told us that check in was 3PM. The only thing missing was a "Bless your Heart". No wi-fi in the rooms, it is available in the lodge where there is a balcony tailor made for sipping wine and enjoying the river views.

This coffee shop was the most recommended and talked about shop by guides, locals and other shop owners. It obviously is beloved by its community and the line to get coffee spoke to that fact. The coffee was good, the line long, but service was quick and we even got a few take-aways. The ambiance is cute... Is the line worth the wait? I'm torn here. Coffee was good but not necessarily the best, lots of herbaceous drink combos if you enjoy that, other coffees balanced and delicious and the team takes care. However, the space seems overwhelming there are so many people that want to try it and I get why, but the line winds through the tables and there's lots of bumping and crowing in an almost uncomfortable manner which kills a chill morning vibe unfortunately. Baked goods are acceptable but not to die for- though I think maybe this leads back to your & my personal preference, geared toward an earthy pallet. 4 stars for Asthetic and product. They could benefit from an online ordering system or a counter persons who's only job was to get the order quick so guests could wait away from the service area. Too bad the counter for order wasn't near the back, that would fix the flow of the whole store, make it more enjoyable for guests and probably increase sales dramatically. Just a thought. Definitely go, avoid peak hours and order according to your preference so you can enjoy every drop.
