Unfortunately, I have to agree with some of the negative feedback shared by others. While I'm sure many clients have had positive experiences with this company, they did not meet my expectations. Communication was lacking the day they were supposed to come out and only became more responsive after I voiced concerns about the quality of the work. To their credit, they did make an effort to address the issue by offering to send someone back, which I appreciated. However, it feels more like a recurring issue with their team. Overall, I did not find the value to match the quality of work done, and I personally would not use or recommend their services. We live and we learn. read more

My house sparkles when they are finished. My husband often comments on what an amazing job they do. Scheduling is easy to do and rescheduling is also easy (within the 24 hour window). This is a grossly unethical company. I used them once to clean a studio in DC. The door was left unlocked & they were given instructions to leave it unlocked (only key was in the unit). The cleaning crew accidentally locked the door on their way out (keys inside). Mistakes happen. But unfortunately -it cost over $500 to get the door open (older door with difficult mechanism). When I complained to the company, the guy in charge immediately told me it was not their mistake -someone else must have locked the door. This is absurd -no one else had reason to enter the unit. The neighbor across the hall was home all day & he said no one else entered the unit since the cleaners. These people were entirely at fault. They're supposed to carry insurance for mistakes that cause financial damage to a unit. I could not get reimbursement of any kind. I can't imagine what happens when they clean a home with valuable art in it. read more

I used the Green Mop to clean my townhouse when I was selling it and the team did a great job. I figured I would use them again to clean my condo before my move in. HUGE MISTAKE! They didn't do a good job at all. When I ran my hand over the kitchen counters? You could feel grit like dust. Same for the window sills and blinds. I sent a video to the company and got a long email about how dust/human hair/pet hair settles. They cleaned the day before I was scheduled to move in and no one was in the home and I don't have a pet. Bathroom was dusty still. I asked for my carpets to be cleaned and it seems they just vacuumed them. I need to be able to trust the people I work with and that isn't the case here. Yes, they offered to send the team out again but I wanted my home cleaned BEFORE I moved in. I would not use them again. Didn't do a good job, refused to fix the issue same-day, maintained a customer-is-always wrong attitude.

I've used the Green Mop in the past for my rental property for deep cleaning in between tenants and they did a good job. However my most recent cleaning was not a good experience. The crew arrived two hours later than expected when I requested to be the very first appointment of the day (well in advance and was told this would not be a problem). When the crew arrived they were not wearing masks (as COVID-19 and the Delta variant continue to spread) and proceeded to clean the house. I vacated the house as to not get in the way and I didn't feel comfortable in the house with a maskless crew. When I returned to check-in they notified me there was a problem with the oven. The door wouldn't close properly. They FaceTimed their manager and they told me they were working on a solution. I also noticed they took several bottles of water from the refrigerator (which was going to be used to offer perspective tenants on tour). The water wasn't a big deal (which I made explicitly clear to their manager) but when combined with the other issues it should a patter that lacked professionalism (and had they asked while I was there or called me- I obviously would have said yes). After they left, I did a walk around to make sure things were cleaned and I found gaps. The floor in my basement had not been mopped and the stairs going down also looked like they had been touched- I may have accepted this in a standard clean but I asked and paid for a deep clean. I appreciate that sometimes dirt can be tough to get out so I grabbed a sanitizing wipe to see if it would come up and the dirt came out pretty easily indicating to me it just wasn't done. I contacted management to let them know of my concerns and they said that the oven wasn't a big deal (despite the crew leaving it open with the light on- a potential fire hazard) and said they would tell me how to fix it (they didn't). I had to search and watch YouTube videos to find the solution (which worked). Management apologized but also defended the work and offered to send the same crew back the next day to clean the areas missed. The following day the crew came back with a noticeable attitude and mopped the areas missed. They asked me to come and inspect the work because they "weren't coming back again." I did and said it was fine and they implored me to look around (which I did) and thanked them. One of the people on the crew proceeded to lecture me about how its difficult to mop that a concrete floor (I know, I've mopped it myself many times). And then proceeded to pepper me with sarcastic questions about how much the water that they took the previous day cost. I thanked them again with a tone ending the conversation and they left. I was still charged full price. The lack of professionalism was astounding and a business I thought I could trust has lost both my trust and my business. Next time I need cleaning services, I will be looking elsewhere. read more

I've used The Green Mop before and If I wrote a review the first time I used them they would have received 5 stars but this last time was a nightmare of an experience. When the cleaners came they did an okay job I guess cleaning but they didn't wipe down the toilets and they missed some spots in the kitchen. The problems start when they accidentally broke my wife's olive oil dispenser which she got an Italy on our honey moon and they didn't even mention it! When the cleaners left, one of them accidentally took my keys (Which I really believe was an accident). That's fine... I get it... people make mistakes... the thing is they didn't even realize or tell me until 2 DAYS(over the weekend) LATER WHEN I CALLED TO ASK IF THEY HAD SEEN THEM!!! I was looking everywhere for my keys while I had my in-laws in town for a funeral. I even went through the trash and recycle (where I found half the handle to the olive oil). When I called, (YEP I CALLED THEM FOR ME KEYS THAT THEY TOOK!!!) they confirmed that they have my keys and that a cleaner took them mistaking them for hers (which as I type it sounds just a little suspect). They didn't even offer to drop them off immediatly. They wanted to drop them off Tuesday!!!! So I had to pick them up and at the end of all this... They didn't even offer to make this right... Nothing... Nada... no half off for next cleaning or anything. I would have been cool with 20 percent off.. Just something to show that they were sorry. I have been using The Green Mop for monthly cleanings, and recently asked them to do a move in/move out cleaning. During move-in cleaning the team cleaned EVERYTHING. They cleaned the inside of the cupboards, the dust from the blinds, and even wiped the baseboards. I was very pleased with my move-in cleaning. Over the years, they've been able to accommodate some last-minute cleaning requests, done deep cleanings of my home, and they always fold the towels in a really cute way! I am very pleased with The Green Mop and will continue to use them for monthly cleanings in my new home. read more

I've lived in the D.C. area for quite a long time and have used multiple cleaning services during my time here. This was by far the worst experience I've had with a cleaning service. We booked the cleaners for an hour to clean an apartment that was pretty much empty. The cleaners came in, and immediately wanted to tack on a 30 extra minutes (which we didn't accept). Mind you, we were in the process of moving out and the apartment was already 95% emptied - all that really needed cleaning was the bathroom, floors, and kitchen (also, our apartment is pretty small). Am I crazy or that should only take an hr for 2 people to clean? The cleaners were also on their phone multiple times during the hour. No wonder they wanted the extra 30 minutes. At the end of the day, I will say they did an adequate job cleaning the apartment. That said, there were some dirty and dusty spots left (even though the cleaners said the apartment was clean), which I ended up cleaning myself. Would I recommend this company? Nope. read more

I've used The Green Mop for 12 years now and I still recommend them with a 5 star rating. Their service is outstanding! They do a very thorough job and everything sparkles and shines. I can leave specific instructions, and also keep a regular list of instructions. Given appropriate notice (24 hrs) They can accommodate date changes as personal situations arise, like out of town guests. During the pandemic they wear masks and gloves, and I wear a mask if I'm home. GM provides a very confident and professional service. I think you'll be happy with them! read more

After posting the review, I received an email with an apology that stated there had been an administrative error and they never not respond to broken items. The email went on to state the cleaner who had broken the dish was no longer working for them and they reimbursed the cost of the dish, which I greatly appreciated. Very basic cleaning that I could have done in one hour. I had to vacuum after they left and their version of "mopping" the floor is slapping a towel on a stick around. The master shower looks exactly the same with soap scum on the tiles. Other maid services were able to get the shower spotless. The cabinet faces and fridge were not wiped down in the kitchen. And they didn't replace the trash bags in the bathrooms. There are much more thorough cleaning services in this area. read more

Green Mop has been cleaning for me for years, first at my small, two-bedroom apartment and now in our three bedroom/2.5 bathroom home. They show up on time and do a thorough job every single time. They are also extremely flexible, switching days easily any time I'm traveling or need cleanup after hosting a party. I'm always impressed with their level of detail, down to folding the toilet paper like in a hotel. They leave the stove spotless. The Green Mop ran a Living Social deal advertising that they service "All of DC, Metro MD, & Northern Virginia." I'll give you 3 guesses (and the first 2 don't count) whether that's true or not. Give up? They're full of shit. We're moving from an apartment into a house, and I thought this would be an awesome way to lessen the stress of buying a house and moving. Wrong. My purchase was for $35 and it included a 750sq foot space. The apartment I'm moving out of is 742 sq feet and is located in Chantilly, VA. Which is located in Fairfax County, which is smack in the middle of Northern Virginia. Someone might want to call the folks over at The Green Mop and show them a map, as they seem to be a bit confused. My deal went through, I went on to their horrid website and tried to book my cleaning appointment. I provided them with my voucher number, my address and phone number, and all of my other information. I received an email a few hours later saying (and this is copy/pasted DIRECTLY from the email): "Hi Nicole we received you Living Social form but we don't services you area sorry about that. Queni The Green Mop Inc. (703) 647-9094, (202) 425-2538 www.thegreenmop.com 10% off your next cleaning if your friend gets one (new client)" Well, Queni. If you don't services my area, what area do you services? Perhaps they should have put a disclaimer on the ad or on their website saying "We don't services you areas if you live [fill in the blanks with places in Northern Virginia]" Just a thought. So I responded (would you expect any less?) asking how I could get a refund and that their website explicitly states that they service Fairfax - which is approximately 2 minutes from my front door... which means that I could spit on Fairfax... but, The Green Mop does not agree. Here's their reply (again, copied/pasted): "Hi Nicole we are sorry about that we but google map show that you are out of our service area you can contact living social for your re found. Thanks" You google map show I'm out of your area? And I'll have to contact Living Social for my re found? Did I lose something? Nope, FOUND it. Looking for my refund... I (re) found it after speaking to the delightful folks over at Living Social. They're awesome. Anyway. I responded asking if they had a list of the areas they service, or inversely, a list of places that are "out of their service area" and I haven't heard a peep. Their website says in BIG GREEN TYPE: Living Social New Clients Please Stop Here! We service all of DC, Metro MD, and Northern Virginia Hm... that would mean that they service my area. At least, one would think. I sent them one last email with a screen shot of their website (including the above quote), informed them that I would be writing a delightfully scathing review on Yelp outlining my experience, and telling them that I'm so glad they're using false advertising to build their business. Living Social has refunded my money, PLUS given me $5 deal bucks... AND they're investigating with The Green Mop to see if they've done this to other people... so if you've gotten screwed by these idiots too after purchasing a Living Social deal, call Living Social directly at 877.521.4191, they'll get you taken care of. I was looking forward to getting my little home cleaned professionally - especially by a green company. I like to do my part for the environment, so thought this would be a good idea...a green cleaning service, what could be better? They are inconsistent at best. I had some sort of issue with each cleaning...either they were late, or did a poor job, broke a faucet or my favorite was coming home at 6pm after letting them in at 8am to find they left the water running in the shower. Not very green. I am sure there are excuses for all of the issues I have had, it really isn't about the issues, it is about how you deal with them and fix them that matters. My real issue is the attitude of the person who I assume is the owner. There is no real customer service here. If something goes wrong there is a definite oh well, too bad attitude. If things are missed in cleaning (the coffee table for instance) I do not want to have to have you back over to re-clean. Just please do it the first time. I did however like the online scheduling, that was very convenient. It is a little buggy with the rules for scheduling not appearing until after you go through the process. The cleaners that showed up were always polite. I will unfortunately not be using their service again. Update: I would like to thank the owner for proving my point with his hostile commentary... I like that they offer an hourly rate because it makes me confident that the cleaning will be detailed. I also like that their cleaning is more environmentally friendly than most. Here is the message he sent me privately: "How about I slap you with a court order - let's see whether you can slander my company or not shall we?" I didn't have the best experience with this guy's company, so it's not a great review. But "slander"? Really? I take my reviews pretty seriously, and no, this is not some coordinated attack on this company.... it's 100% genuine (look at all the reviews the 4 of us have posted.... we have plenty between us). I went to their website tonight to fill out my information to get ready to schedule my cleaning. In the "notes" section i wrote that I'm a fanatic about germs and want to have things disinfected with bleach (apparently i'm stupid - i didn't know they don't have a "green" bleach - but i'm sure there's something similar!) Well.. that class act Tony emailed me right away. "Hi Megan, we are a "green" cleaning company and do not clean with bleach. It is harmful to the health of our workers as well as the environment. Living Social will refund your coupon. Thanks, Tony" Well -- shouldn't a company email me and tell me what they can do, instead of a nasty email saying they can't accommodate me? So i responded.. "Tony. Before you jump to conclusion that i won't accept anything else.. perhaps you should ask?" He stays classy saying.. "Hi Megan, I can tell by your requirements we won't be able to do a good job for you. 35 dollars just gets a basic general cleaning for one hour with 2 workers. The items you note and the fact you state you are a fanatic about germs and want bleach used throughout shows me we won't be able to do the job you are looking for - best to pass than have to deal with a situation that won't work. I have been a client for The Green Mop for more than two years now, and I must say that they are the best cleaning company! Never ever had an issue with them, and my expectations are always exceeded. I have to say that I just love that the cleaning ladies take their time to put the toys away when I don't have the time to do so before they come. The bathrooms are always spotless and they do an amazing job with the mirrors all over the house! Last spring I requested the power wash for the backyard deck, and again, amazing service for a reasonable price. You may have to be flexible with the scheduled time due to traffic and all, but that is just common sense since we live in a busy area. My problem is that you booked my visit TEN full days before you canceled it (3 hours before expected arrival). I've purchased a couple different Groupon/Living Social deals to get my house cleaned. The Green Mop was the first company that I actually wanted back for repeat service. These guys are thorough. Cleaning all the nooks and corners where dog hair hides. I told them I couldn't afford to have cleaners come every week or other week. And they accommodated me by offering me a cleaning once a month, and I just alternate the rooms that get cleaned. This way i get a professional cleaning of my entire house every two months, and I'm able to maintain cleanliness in between. I'm excited to have found a company I can trust with my house. read more

I bought a Living Social coupon for $35 and, after a coupon experience with a massage place (see my review for M3 massage), expected it would take 1.5 months to get service and that my experience would be disappointing. Not so! The Green Mop has an online booking function and they could book me for the next day. No rude receptionists. They were super responsive by email and responsible. They sent me a couple confirmation emails, so I felt confident they'd come...that this wasn't a hoax. In fact, they said they would be here between 8 and 8.30 - they got here at 8.06. They got to work immediately, while I crawled under the covers for more sleep. My heart fluttered at the sound of their super-powered vacuums sucking the dirt from my carpets and floors. I drifted back to sleep, only after confirming that I didn't need my sheets changed. I got up about an hour later (my place is small) and they were ready to go, after doing a brilliant job cleaning my place. My place was left in sparkling clean condition. They moved my bookcase to clean the floor underneath, and they even washed my dishes. I think their general rate is about $65/hr for 2 cleaners, but they can work with you on a flat rate. They have other options for bigger homes, yard work, and other tasks. I would definitely recommend them. read more

I used The Green Mop for over a year (I don't remember exactly), and while the service started out fine, I can't say I recommend their business. Sadly, this is a problem with a lot of cleaning services, but they start off trying to impress you and end up not cleaning enough at all. I tried different days, requesting specific teams (office said they couldn't promise that), giving positive feedback on days they did a great job, negative feedback when they didn't. Once, they couldn't come to re-clean after a bad job because the team had TAKEN MY HOUSE KEY HOME WITH THEM. That's a big no-no for me, and supposedly against their office policy. The last straw was after all the snow we had this year, we had to reschedule (totally understandable), but they were clearly overscheduled and didn't clean my home. I have a small linoleum entrance way - makes it easier to clean up all the muck that comes in on shoes right? They didn't mop it! After all that snow, and the salt and sand and dirt, they didn't take the time to mop the 5x5 foot linoleum entrance way? Wow. I wrote into the management office and while they apologized and offered to have my house re-cleaned, I declined and asked for my key back. I pay people to clean my house THE FIRST TIME. And I'd had to have them come back and re-do stuff, or clean stuff myself, too many times. read more

They were incredibly responsive--they got back to me within just a few hours (on a Sunday night!) and committed to be there the next day. They are one of the few cleaning services in the area that can clean your carpets at the same time as everything else for a low rate, no less. Plus, I love that they use natural cleaning solutions. They updated me upon their arrival and at the anticipated departure time. My roommate and I are so pleased with their incredibly thorough work and I have already recommended them to friends. Our friends K and R have a two-story house, two cats, an oft-visiting toddler nephew, and not a speck of dust. So when we decided to get our apartment professionally cleaned for the first time, we asked for their recommendation. They were happy with the Green Mop, so we made a Saturday appointment (on the company's easy self-scheduler website). The two-person team was punctual, polite, efficient, and impressively thorough. They dusted shelf corners that hadn't seen daylight since 2003. They folded our hand towels and toilet paper into little triangles, like a hotel. They scraped the accumulated oil stains off our kitchen cabinets. Our carpet, which had taken on the hue of our various cats through the years, is now the whitest it's ever been. And the whole place smells great -- clean and fresh without that chemical Lysol odor. I like that they use environmentally sustainable products instead of bleach or ammonia. Better for the workers, the environment, our cat, and us! Fee was $70/hour. Worth every cent. read more

I purchased a coupon from Live Green for a house cleaning for $55, which seemed dirt cheap for 2 people for an hour and half, particularly since they brought all their own cleaning supplies. The ability to schedule online was great, and they had lots of time slots available that were convenient to me (5pm on Friday! Yes, please!). I was taken aback that a man named Tony would be cleaning - my first thought was, "are you kidding? A man is why my house is dirty in the first place, send me a woman!" But I rolled with it and scheduled away. My only complaint for the whole process is that I got an email the morning of the cleaning saying, "Okay, looks like we'll be there from 130-2." My appointment was at 5. Look, I'm all about punctuality but there is such a thing as too early. We compromised on 330 but they showed up at 315. I guess they won't leave you waiting, which is good, right? Once in the house, Tony got to working very quickly and did a very thorough job. I'm rather annoyed that a man can clean so well, because now my fiance has zero excuse for being a slob as clearly there is no male genetic impediment to scrubbing floors. They were both very polite, very professional, and now I can enjoy my weekend by not spending one minute of it cleaning. Worth every penny, and I'll be sure to book with them again. read more

Email communication in setting-up my first appointment was great; unfortunately, on the day-of, they failed to call as promised to provide an ETA. This resulted in an unexpected "surprise" arrival (by this point in the day I had thought they were canceling,) but fortunately I was home all day, anyway. The two women who arrived immediately set to work and did a superb job, working very efficiently together and unknowingly meeting my rather high standards. They were able to complete a two story condo on just over an hour and I could not be more satisfied. Though the communication aspect obviously requires improvement, the work ethic coupled with reasonable cost has certainly at least a second booking. read more

Wow, the Green Mop is fantasitc. I have used them three times and my home is always spic and span after they leave. This last time the crew was particurally exceptional. Here are the things that I like about the Green Mop 1. They have good time availability. With the exception of Sunday you can book almost any time and any day with these folks. This is great for someone like me who works that doesn't like to leave the house alone during the cleaning. 2. They actually do use Green products. I could smell the vinegar in my room (which I prefer to the smell of chemical cleaners). 3. I am totally in awe of this amazing cleaning service, for a lot of reasons. Firstly, I live in a group home with four boys. Do I need to say more? I purchase a three-hour cleaning service, and the awesome team of two cleaners cleaned our entire common space (living room, dining room, and kitchen) and upstairs bathroom in less than two hours. They then promptly headed downstairs to my basement space and continued to clean until the job was done. They took out the trash, vacuumed and mopped everything... It was just a really nice job for an awesome price. Secondly, the customer service is fantastic. I was able to reschedule on a Saturday for a Monday cleaning with no penalty and with a really helpful attitude. They let me know their ETA before 9am on the day of the service, and they were right on time. I got multiple confirmation emails as well. Considering another cleaning service no-showed on me a couple weeks ago, I was particularly excited to be working with a company that really knows their stuff. Finally, it was a great deal! I purchased a Groupon and could not have been happier with the pricing. I tipped very well (on the original price), because this really was a job well done on a very dirty house. Great quality work; cleaned every little corner of our place thoroughly (with the exception of windowsills, but unclear on if that is considered an "extra" under the umbrella of interior window cleaning). Attention to detail included even folding tissues and toilet paper into points! However, the team charged for arrival at 8:00 AM when they arrived a little after 8:20. I chalked it up to an oversight and reached out to management about it, but then the team pushed back and deliberately lied, saying that they did in fact arrive at 8:00. To their credit, management adjusted the fee to reflect an 8:20 arrival time, but this clear (and easy to disprove) lie made me too uncomfortable with the Green Mop to work with them again. read more

Used them for the first time after a recommendation from a friend of mine who swears by them. They didn't disappoint. To put this in perspective, I did a long exhaustive search of cleaners in the area. Most were consistent- overpriced and quoting working times more than double what is needed. Thankful for Green Mop- not only is the cleaning crew efficient, effective and friendly, but the management staff I conversed with via email were very helpful, informative and accommodating. My experience with Green Mop has been that they can get the place basically clean IF you constantly supervise and micromanage. But they will still gloss over the details. They left our home about 85% clean. They try but just aren't very methodical or detail oriented. They left tons of cobwebs. They didn't clean the baseboards or the window glass. And it wasn't because they didn't have time. Two cleaners seemed to want to spend all their time washing the kichen sink over and over (while gossiping)--but barely cleaned the floor. One cleaned to the microwave but neglected the inside of the door. And yet she wiped the glass surface of a piece of wall art. Another kept talking on the cellphone until I entered the room. Alarmingly, one person decided to clean the heavy cast iron grates from the gas range using the porcelain sink! Which of course is easily scratched. Fortunately, I intervened in time, but how about some basic common sense? A previous time, one Green Mop cleaner used some caustic chemical to clean the bathtub-- eating away the metal collar around the drain. (I didn't notice till later.) They also only brought one floor cleaner/vacuum. It would've been more efficient if each had separately cleaned a room. So they're not terrible-- but I found them a bit sloppy and rather exhausting due to the monitoring and frequent correction they required. If you use them, I would tell them in advance to skip certain areas or appliances that may already be clean. And I'd insist on one cleaner per room. Better yet, I'd have them clean for a flat fee versus hourly and give them a checklist (in Spanish) of the specific things you want cleaned in each room. read more

We took a chance on this company for a routine deep clean of our place, and will not be using them again. The pros are few: available, fast response time communicating through email, and cleaners were promptly on time. However, cons are numerous: poor attention to detail, smudges left on walls, baseboards neglected, high chair not cleaned, some of the windows and mirrors were not cleaned or left streaky, and they did a sloppy job vacuuming and mopping (all things I specified we needed on initial contact and again upon arrival). They didn't even wipe down the coffee table. I actually ran the vacuum after they left to pick up the grit, crumbs and hairs they had spread around with the mops and missed - possibly not even our own! They don't have a discount or refund policy, so I said nothing and paid for 2 hours for a job I could have done in 30 mins. I don't like being in a position where I HAVE to point out these things for them to be taken care of. Avoid and look elsewhere! read more

This review is going to start off bad, but then blossom into a better story. So green mop didn't show up when they were supposed to-no call-nothing. I emailed them alerting that hey no one showed up and boy did they put on those customer service hats! They discounted me a percentage of my service and someone was out the next day and they did a really good job. I understand things happen where you lose information of a customer, I am hopeful this was just a "glitch in the matrix" experience with them. I booked the Green Mop for a two-person, three-hour cleaning with a Groupon and told the staff that I wanted the cleaning team to stay as long as took to make my apartment sparkle. I have a neck injury, so it's been very difficult for me to clean--in other words, my house was a disaster. The staff called me after three hours and told me the cleaning team needed another hour and then called again to tell me they needed one more hour. Told you the place was a disaster! I was not only delighted with how my apartment looked when I got home, Andira, Clari and Tony were an absolute pleasure to work with and provided outstanding customer service. I am so pleased, that I booked a monthly cleaning and I look forward to working with the Green Mop team for a long time to come! Thanks, guys! read more
