What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.

The place is located near the Madingley Hall, a beautiful country location of Cambridge University. The food was absolutely delicious. The menu is focused on Italian european but also has some British dishes. Loved the coffee. Drinks and spirits looked good but didn't go for it. The staff was polite and friendly. Called them up last minute to reserve a table to which they happily obliged.

The food is innovative, interesting and always beautifully presented: having spent a lot of time in Italy, I am often dissappointed with the Italian food in England, but The Three Horseshoes always hits the right note. The seasonally changing menu is always a delight, but I particularly like their use of autumn veg, particularly butternut squash. Whatever buffalo mozzarella they use deserves a special place in heaven, and my boyfriend always manages to find room for their delicately seasoned lemon tart. Well worth a visit - if you're a student, this is definitely one to persuade your parents to take you to.

I had looked on the online menu and was craving something 'gamey'. I was hoping to get the pan fried pigeon breast. The menu online is nothing like they have on their actual menu, the online menu lists three burgers, they only serve one, about 75% of the online menu does not exist on the 'actual' menu. I didn't know I needed to call ahead for such a drastic change in what was available. I better do this next time to save on disappointment and money. I ordered the sweet potato and coconut soup, it was good, very creamy. For my main I ordered the lamb. It came with 2-3 lamb chops, I counted, I ate them in 2.5 bites, small bites actually. For £18.95, that is just not enough food, I didn't even get 3 bites of lamb. There was couscous served, but it wasn't anything special. My husband ordered the steak burger, it was sold to us as a piece of steak on a bun, instead it was ground steak, I think the waitress could have been a tad more knowledgeable about what she was selling. She also suggested the lamb chops, which were tiny. I never feel comfortable leaving a restaurant and paying £70 for a meal and still not feel full. I am a petite woman, I am not an over eater, I had to go home and make myself dinner all over again because what I had ordered did not fill me up. The Brinkley Lion's prices are much too high for the amount of food you actually are served. The soup was the only thing that was worth it. The restaurant also claims to be in Newmarket, it is not. There isn't a huge selection of ales, beers or ciders either. This place is a miss. I hope the owners read this review and makes some changes if they want to keep their business running, unless they attract the rich who over spend and don't eat much. Who knows?
