First thing you note is that ALL the character of the place has been removed by replacing original pub sign etc has been replaced with generic, plain white lettering on a maroon backdrop plastic looking signs. Normally I would have rammed it down the waitresses throat but with family around I swallowed it (my anger not the food). Personally this was my first time here and I went with some friends if mine. The food was very good and served in a reasonable time, all dishes in one go meaning that attention has been paid from the chef. I had a lamb burger with potato wedges and coleslaw in a mango sauce. The meat was medium cooked as requested and the coleslaw very nice. My wife had a steak and ale pie. The stew was very tender and the sauce not bitter at all (Which us something that it happens very often). Can't comment on my friend dishes as they went for an ordinary sausages and scampi both with fries. However portions were generous enough. The pub is an old grade listed place and our was very nice to stay in. Chimney were off, but I'm sure that they can add a nice touch and make the environment very pleasant. This is a homophobic pub with a some nasty regulars and a hostile manager (Darryl). Until tonight, I loved Molly Malones. It was my favourite pub in Hitchin. I attended a few times a month watch live sport. I met some lovely people, especially around the pool table. I went tonight to watch the PSG vs Chelsea game, and ended up playing poker with a couple of lovely guys, and the manager, Darryl, who turned out to be not so lovely. After the football, whislt I was at the bar, another patron shouted out 'Chelsea Nonce'. This is an offensive homophobic slur when connected to football, as evidenced by the conviction of Joey Barton who repeatedly used it on social media. I politely but firmly told the guy that was not okay. He got aggresive and told me to 'F' off. He then said it again. I reitereated that his language wasn't okay, and said I'd call the police if he said it again. He said it again. I dialled 999. At this point the manager (Darryl) asked me to leave the pub and took my drink away (I had just bought him a pint). He said he was removing me from the premises 'for my own safety'. The police attended. The said that 'nonce' was not a slur. I advised them to educate themselves, They were rude and dismissive. Darryl appeared at the door, grinning, and invited the officers into the pub. They left within 2 minutes, and reported on their radio that no offence had been comiited. I got their badge numbers and names and have made a complaint to Hertfordshire police. The police officers advised me that if I was now unwelcome in the pub, if I didn't move on and a complaint by the manager was made, I would be moved on by them forcefully. This is NOT an LGBTQ friendly pub. It's NOT a friendly pub at all under it's current management. Have a look at the other poor reviews for this pub and how the manager responds. J

It's situated on Nightingale road a little out of the centre of town but is well worth seeking out. The staff are very friendly, the beer is good and the whole atmosphere of the place is great. They show the footie when it's on and have live bands from time to time plus events such as party night on Halloween and New Year etc. It's not a particularly big place so it can get a little crowded at peak times. There's a little courtyard out the back for smokers but you couldn't really call it a beer garden. Parking can be problematic around here but there are soem free parking slots across the road next door to the petrol station. Go on - give Molly's a go - you'll come back again

The second disappointment was that breakfast on Saturday starts at 8am and I had to leave early for Heathrow. On Friday I enjoyed the (full cooked, excellent) English breakfast (included in the room charge) and so felt a bit ripped off the second night. The rooms (by UK standards) are very good, everything new and clean - while retaining much of the charm of this quaint place. Apart from parking the location is great. Letchworth was founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1906, and being a Quaker he forbade alcohol and pubs etc within the city limits. That is not common for Brits - who love their beers and gin and tonics!! So the growth of pubs and licensed premises in the last decade or two has been "refreshing"!! Both Mrs G and I loved this place! On day 1 Mrs G went for a burger which she liked very much indeed, while I opted for the full English breakfast which was excellent! We both had juices (no booze!!) while on day 2 we both took the buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Rare in England and delicious. Service was outstanding, warm and friendly. The whole ambience was wonderful - families, friends, mums and babies groups. Bright, airy, spacious and in the warm weather a beautiful indoor/outdoor experience. Yes of course we will be back next time that we are in Letchworth again!!
