Baldock has changed quite a bit since I was a resident! One of the changes I'm liking is the new coffee shops, butchers and gastro pubs popping up.
Particularly The George, which has gone through quite a few changes in management and look and I do have to say this is the best it has looked. To start; the food. It contains a few classics, not standard bang-it-in-the-oven classics, but good pub grub/comfort food classics. As you can tell from the tip, I went for the Goliath burger, and Goliath it indeed was. It also came with chunky home cut chips and massive beer battered onion rings. Which, in layman's terms = NOM!
One thing I will say and this is just nitpicky, is the on tap selection. They had your standard 'good' beers and largers like peroni, but would have been perfect for a venue like this to stock some more local beers and ales. Especially since you have quite a few in herts and London...
Anyway, the bar is a decent size, but most of the venue is pretty much restaurant space, the staff were chatty and friendly... And yes. This is good place to stop by if you are on your way to or from London and or Cambridge. read more
