A second visit to the Jolly Waggoner was even more rewarding than the first. 18 months later the same chef treated us to two extraordinary daily specials. We started with haddock and poached egg risotto that in spite of appearing to be an overly generous portion, was amazingly light, and did not dampen our appetite for what was yet to come. Our main course was venison gnocco served with kale greens, and a red wine, sherry, madeira reduction prepared with bitter chocolate. The venison meat was tender, moist and rich without gaminess, the sauce was an exquisite pairing. After a suitable pause we ended the fine meal, next to their warm and welcoming ingle nook fire with a sinful serving of delicious sticky toffee pudding.
We look forward to the next visit! read more
