The food is good. The menu is typical English fare. Due to the busyness of the restaurant, the service isn't great at times. It can be a little slow but it's always been friendly. I like this restaurant! It's one of my favorite restaurants in the greater London area. I recommend it.

We (2 of us) had 3 courses each, 2 sides and 3 alcohol drinks for £100 which is good going around here. For starters we had the crab terrine with smoked paprika aioli (special) and the king scallops with swordfish and cream sauce. These were the best dishes of the evening. Light and sumptuous! For mains we had fillet steak and the rib eye! Both very nice, and good portions. We finished off with a sticky toffee pudding and apricot sorbet! All of this washed down with a couple of glasses of rose prosecco and a well priced glass of Chenin Blanc. We would have rated 5 stars if it weren't for the steak being a bit overdone and the scallops being more queenie than king but this didn't detract from a lovely meal and evening. We'll be back!

The pub comprises of a small bar, and a lot of square dining tables just like one's parents used to have! There were a couple of locals sat in the corner surveying their patch and a numbe of other people having Saturday lunch. The bar staff were very friendly. I had a pint of beer that is brewed in Tring which was very nice. For lunch I had the sausage and mash, which was very tasty. My girlfriend had a cheese ploughman's sandwich. This was most disappointing as the filling was lost in the bread. In fact, given that it was a cheese ploughmans, there was definitely not enough cheese. I'd give the place another try if I'm passing, but to be fair, it was a bit expensive.

Still-warm, freshly baked crusty bread with olive oil/balsamic was served to us while we pondered the daily menu of seasonal, fresh food. I had the lamb stew and the meat literally melted in my mouth. GF had the biggest steak I've ever seen and it was cooked to perfection (served with home cut chips and mustard on a big wooden block). The only disappointment was that I was too full to try anything from the mouth-watering desert menu - particularly the 'chocolate soup', which came with high recommendations from the landlady, Cristina, who was there to tell us about everything on the menu. After dinner, wander to the rear of the pub where there is a fabulous beer garden, complete with a small children's play area and lots of big tables with umbrellas. There's no commercialism in this little treasure, just a cosy place that was as lovely on a summer's eve as I'm sure it would be on a dark winter night. It was tranquil and idyllic, watching the canal boats pass by, periodically opening the swing-bridge that traverses the canal. As another Yelper correctly indicated, the road here is a narrow single-track, with frequent maneuvering necessary to allow traffic to pass; it can be rough on the nerves, if you're not practiced at it. My advice is to leave the car elsewhere and walk the towpath to the pub: both more relaxing and prettier! There are 2 parking lots if you do decide to drive. The service was friendly, and they have some nice beers available. Food did take a while to arrive, but we were enjoying our drinks and the ambiance, and were not bothered. The food was superb, especially their Famous Duck Confit - delicious!!! If you are looking for a lovely country pub, look no further.

Its right on the canalside, with lots of tables outside for when the weather is warmer. Inside the pub has a really authentic character, and a great feel to it. The menu is great, and it has a ton of drinks on offer. Last time I went, the prices were fantastic, mainly due to a lunch deal of any 2 courses for £7. This may have changed since then, but you can always phone to check. There was parking, however in summer I believe it can get really busy.

I ask if they had alternative milk, but the owners daughter looked puzzled as if to say does that exist- they did not have so I had my tea black. I only gave it 3 stars because I've not had the full Plough experience, but I'm sure if I come again that will be updated.

It so nice to be writing and not whining about a place…read more Visiting London for a few days and sitting here in a Chesterfield style tufted sofa looking out over the Thames. I've just finished a very drinkable local larger .. rich in body with a hop composition leading to a pleasant finish .. and working my way through a collection of reasonably priced English fare. The sausage roll was outstanding as large as your fist for a couple of pounds. Wilking and sons brown sauce on the table to accompany. The pie of the day is slightly deconstructed with rich beef chunks and a gravy, fluffy white mash potatoes and a puff pastry hat. Gorgeous. Such a tough call with fish and chips (WITH PEAS) and a duck leg also on the menu. I couldn't possibly order more of the mains. I had to.leave some space... The deserts don't disappoint. How to choose from amongst the choices a baked winter fruit tart with Devon cream or bitter chocolate pot. OK chocolate pot, an espresso elonge and port digestive. Service was accommodating. Helpful.and friendly. Digestive choice was good. And accommodating on the coffee. This was my fill of British comfort food. Absolutely delightful. Ambience .. the pair from Poland sitting next to me who had graduated and stayed.. Setting .. the view and furniture.. Food Reasonable price. Hell just stay away so I can get a table :)
