This is the cutest restaurant I've been to. A colleague recommended it and I'm so happy we went. The interior had a bird theme and each area had a bit different decor, which made this place even more charming. Menu wasn't too big and they even had a gluten free menu for one of our companions. Service was nice. We had the prawns as a starter-the flavor was great, but for the price we only got 3 or 4 tiny prawns. There were lots of tomatoes which were greatly seasoned. For a franchised restaurant in the UK this place is aaamazing. I ordered their Mac and cheese (sorry no pics since it was just too good and totally forgot to take pic) that came with the avocado salad and it's delicious. I topped it with their Bill's sparkling pink lemonade, and again just simple and not too sweet. The hubs and I ended our early dinner with their sticky toffee pudding - this is a must try and share since it's so big. Staff is extremely friendly and fast . After a 'slightly' heavy night before a big shopping trip with my mum, I was in desperate need for food by the time lunch rolled around. After hitting a few of the sales and getting those much needed last minute presents, we headed into Bill's, safe in the knowledge they could provide something a bit hearty but not overwhelming. We were greeted after a few minutes and told a table would be ready, it just needed a wipe down, then taken to the back of the restaurant to sit. Decor hasn't changed dramatically since my visit a few years ago, though it still stands out against its Manchester relative due to the shop being available. Our order for drinks was taken fairly quickly, but that's when time started to stand still - our diet cokes took what felt like a long time to arrive, at which point I was ready to drink anything that was put in front of me, but then we had to wait for our food order. Now, that was a long wait. Especially as we had to watch the tables arriving around us and receiving their food at a much quicker pace. Eventually we asked and the waitress assured us it would only be a few moments, but it did feel more like we had been forgotten than there had been any kind of kitchen mistake. My halloumi and hummus was good, and the right balance between stodge and health that I was looking for, though the couple of pieces of halloumi left me feeling a bit slighted. Where's my cheese? It remains A-OK as the food is consistent, but the service was poor in my opinion. read more

This place has a beautiful layout with massive wooden tables and delicious looking produce stacked everywhere. It would be a great place to do some work because there's space to spread out and free wireless, but the music is a bit too loud (although I approve of their choice of tuuuunes). Drinks are AMAZING. I got a ginger beer which was (a) giant and (b) had FRESH ginger in it. It was fantastic. Also - they have a pink lemonade and vanilla ice cream float! Why has it not previously occurred me to combine my two favourite drinks?! Didn't get to try it though because I was too full...soon I must go to the Bill's in London because my obsession with obtaining this beverage is becoming distracting. The food is pretty good. The chips were delicious. I tried the chorizo sandwich and fish finger sandwich and neither totally blew me away, hence the 3 stars. Service is quite good although somewhat haphazard. read more

I hate that I love this franchised restaurant so much but I do. Been to Bill's in Oxford, Cambridge and Newbury. Love them all. Not only is the food good, the service is always on point and consistent. They make a point of being prompt and courteous without being overbearing. Some folks have complained about the doneness of the burgers here.. but I have to say that is a bit of a UK thing I found. The UK for whatever reason cooks their meats longer than we do in the states. If you want medium, order medium rare. If you want well done, probably ask for medium well. I have ordered breakfast from this place, sandwiches and other entrees. Never had a problem with any of them. The restaurant is comfortable with good comfortable food. I'd say its better than a lot of chain pubs I've been to in London - that's for sure. read more

We used to come here all the time when we were students at Cambridge (2011-12) but, since then, it seems to have gone way downhill. The decor has gotten totally garish and depersonalized (they used to have lovely bottled sauces and juices to buy on shelves against the walls, now they have posters of frogs and parrots?). I was on a training course in Cambridge, after being to a Bills in Reigate I recommend it my other trainees and we decided to eat here. When we arrived we hit with this almost ski lodge experience of cosiness and warmth. We was seated straight away and given enough time decide want we wanted from the menu. Starters and mains arrived at good time and where perfect for the type of evening it was. It left me a nice warming feeling inside. We was in Cambridge in January, and it was a very icy/cold evening. I like the location of this Bills right in town and close to most of the cathedrals/rivers in Cambridge. read more

Bill's is one of the best chain restaurants I have found in the UK after two very long years of living here and struggling over and over to find quality food at decent prices. My friends and I popped into Bills for a late lunch. It's a great looking restaurant. It also seemed to be staffed appropriately instead of the typical restaurant in England where one server is overloaded with 10 tables. My friends and I ordered burgers. They were cooked perfectly and very juicy. The fries were delectable - some of the best I have had in England. We then finished our meal with a slice of pecan pie. Pecan pie is impossible to find in England and Bill's recipe was a success! Kudos to Bill's for finally giving me a "go to" restaurant. read more

Bill's has a lot of potential. The layout is beautiful, the reservation system worked flawlessly, the food is quite good. I like the idea of a cafe and store together. This would be a five star rating if the service were better. We waited minutes between appearance of the waitress. We had to ask twice for water and again ask twice for our coffees. We ordered them both and they never came. I would like to recommend this place to everyone, but I am unable to do that without an increased level of customer service. read more

We went in a group, and most of the group really enjoyed their meals (which is why they get that third star). Three of us ordered the EXACT same thing (very rare steak, same sides). Like I said, everyone else enjoyed their food. For the three people with the exact same thing, we got verrry different results. Steak 1 was rare, maybe not as much as would be preferred, but still pretty good. Steak 2 was medium rare, which was a little disappointing. Steak 3 was well done. Very well done. I had to stop eating it. It was leather. What the hell??? That is all, I have (and retain) serious beef with anyone who messes with my steak. I'm getting mad just thinking about it. read more

This branch of bills is heading in the wrong direction for me. A queue to get seated despite the empty tables...a 10 minute wait before anyone noticed us... A 20 minute wait for fish finger sandwiches that were ... Meh. Soggy bread underneath, crispy on top. Slimy rocket with tartare. Ketchup already smeared on the bread. Chips cold and over crunchy. Bills offers so much but delivers a disappointing experience. I think I can find better. read more

Wow!! Amazing!! I had lunch and breakfast there. I had the pancakes and i asked for mascarpone with it. It complimentd the maple syrup very well. I live in Canada and i can say that it was ok it´s not what you get here but it was good. Lunch was also good. I'm glad they have sone smaller plates. I had the bread and houmous. The houmous was a bit bitter but the bread was warm, flavourfull and truly amazing! The staff is nice. I would recommend making a reservation for breakfast and busy days unless you want to wait about 10-15 minutes, which isn't that bad. Presentation is perfect. It's a quirky little restaurant and their toffee cookies are very good (get them at their shop, just check the things you want on the bag provided on your table). Service is slow, though that is VERY common in Cambridge. You won't make a mistake going there. Happy eating !! read more

Had a quick lunch here a few days ago, it had only been open for a couple of weeks. Service was great, nice choice of food, and a relaxed atmosphere. We had a hamburger and a grill haloumi burger, which was ok. Not the greatest hamburger but still good. The haloumi burger was better. Would go again for lunch or a coffee again if I was in town, but would not make a special effort. read more

I love a Bill's, the ones in London are quite nice, for a civil brunch. After a slightly aggressive expansion, one sees them in any area close to any neighbouring cafe that also serves flat whites, so in light of this I think they've become a bit meh, keepy uppy and lost the the love of service for what brought them to popularity. They're a vibrant bright chain, you can buy their cute and fun produce to take home and it feels like a place I know I'm going to have a good time. Service here was neglectful at the least. It WAS NOT BUSY! Food arrived in batches, my brunch dates first, mine ten minutes later, his serving of side about 10 minutes after that and they got teas and coffees wrong. We repeatedly asked for water and then were given, probably someone else's glasses of water from a table nearby. Lipstick on the glasses! Gross. Cutlery was also caked in food remains. To top it off and at this point when I came to touch my poached egg with the blunt side of my knife, I was alarmed I could tell by its opacity and the way that it sat there standing firmly to attention that it was, gulp, going. To. Be. Welling up now. Hard. It was. And cold. I could have burst into flames. The waiter was thrice apologetic and terribly embarrassed each time he had to be brought to our attention for me to quite rightly complain. In my mind I kicked the table over threw the salt server through the hatch into the nearby kitchen, ripped the brightly coloured packets of penne off the walls and sprinkled them madly over the floor and squirted mustard in my eyes in an epic tantrum. But in reality I smiled sweetly thanked the waiter for trying and said oh don't worry about it, left him a reasonable tip and kicked some dust in the street outside. read more

For an entire month before exams, I came in to Bills almost every day right at opening (8am on weekdays, 9 am on weekends), ordered their cappuccino and a fresh just-out-of-the oven croissant, featuring some icing sugar on top. I sat their for 4 hours, and right before noon, when the breakfast ends, I would order their eggs benedict, and then would stay till 1pm. or so On some occasions, I would come in at around 2:00 pm and stay till 7, with the fish finger sandwich being my go-to order. I found a great groove there, and there was never any pressure on me to leave, even when long lines would start to form around noon. Their wireless is good enough to check email and do basic surfing, but not good enough to stream video (ie youtube), forming a natural filter for studying distractions. I can safely say that part of the credit for my high standing upon graduation goes to Bills, so naturally I have great affection for them. When I take guests to Bills, I find that the halloumi burger and the chocolate brownie milkshakes are always real hits with the crowd. Now that I'm back in Canada, I can consult their cookbook, which you can purchase after viewing a sample copy during your meal. Their food is excellent and consistent. And over time I have gotten to know some of the staff, who are incredibly friendly, notably, Manny, Karen, Fredreeka, and Bianca to name a few. read more

Bill's is great for anyone looking for a nice coffee/tea while out in Cambridge and wanting to sit in comfort. Last time I went in for tea I sat on one of the sofas surrounded by bookshelves filled with interesting books. SO much more relaxing than chain coffee shops. read more

We use to call in two to three times a week for a cappuccino and croissant. Best croissant by far in Cambridge. Great staff/ service as well. However we are advised today that only mini croissant are now available with a breakfast! These are a poor substitute. Shame on you. Why change when you had a winning combination. read more

Thee food here is pretty darn amazing. It's different, it's diverse, and it's well prepared. And the atmosphere is pretty nice too! Lots of cute kitsch all over. It's the kind of place that I would bring my parents or grandparents when they wanted to take me out to celebrate an event. It is NOT the kind of place that I would go with my friends, all of whom operate on a student budget. Get ready to spend some cash. The good news is that that cash will get you some really nice food and good service. The waitstaff are helpful and accommodating, plenty willing to facilitate my shenanigans (such as switching tables partway through a meal, and asking for twelve separate checks). read more

To set the context, I was in from the US attending a conference. Needed to grab something quick but wanted something local. I ordered the naked burger since I can't have the bread. Big mistake. Ordered it medium which, by any self-respecting standard, is pink throughout. This burger was beyond well done. Ok, so I know a naked burger isn't sexy, but if you have it on the menu, at least make it somewhat appealing. Small piece of lettuce, tomato, pickle and burger thrown on a plate is not enticing especially for 20£. Even though it was packed on a Saturday during lunch time the atmosphere was nice. Competent and friendly service. We had the vegetarian breakfast and the eggs royale, which were both very delicious. The coffee was quite good also. We will definitely come back. read more
