The reviews are correct. Great lunch had here. Fair prices for a tourist town, good food. some tables, a long table for a large crowd or to experience someone new as a table mate, and a nice window perch that seats 4 alongside each other.

Stumbled on this really good diner, whilst on my visit in Cambridge. It had a real modern kitchen feel, which is the trend thing now and the menu did not look complicated, reasonably priced, and perfect for quick lunch. On the main menu, I believe they serve three types of Ciabattas, crackling pork, roast beef, and soy chicken. There are other items such as soup of the day, some veg dish, but my mission that day, was to try their speciality. Brilliant! top side roast beef was gorgeous, not dry, cooked to a good medium and well seasoned, and nicely sliced, coupled that with sauce and good soft fresh bread, made for a good sandwich to sink you teeth into. The crackling pork with pesto sauce was also a good choice, the crackling had a real nice crunch, which meant you can still keep your teeth. The portion side was good, and was served up really quick, the counter would have a display of the different meats, so you can watch your sandwich being put together. It got very busy at lunch time, and being so close to the centre, I was fortunate to get a seat, but I am glad I tried this restuarant out.

I enjoyed the filling porchetta sandwich. Despite an upscale menu and hip setting, the prices were reasonable.

It is a good thing that I'm not a Cambridge student or I'd probably eat here every day. Excellent sandwiches and fun poutine options!

Small menu but executed very well, whether you get a bowl, sandwich, or poutine; you'll leave satisfied and with a full stomach

A very nice, cosy pub, off the beaten track, but a short hop from two other pubs - the Free Press…read more(also recommended) and the Cricketer (sports TV). This is definitely not touristy Cambridge, which in one way is a pity, because it's much a nicer pub than many that tourists visit in the centre. The interior is very traditional - lots of dark wood - with a single long room. On a freezing winter's night, it was cosily warm, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Clientele seemed a very mixed bunch of locals and students and some (very polite and chatty) heavy-metal fans. A nice touch was the lack of piped music. The main draw is the choice of up to 10 real ales, with some really interesting choices, include a locally-produced ale if you want to keep your food miles down. Food is more limited, with the usual snacks, plus a platter (£5) of either mixed gourmet Swiss and Dutch cheeses, or cheese and sausages, both served with horseradish and pickles, but (oddly) not bread. Overall, a nice pub with a great beer choice.

Q: "Which pub in Cambridge has outdoor seats that get the sun for the longest on a summer evening?" And what a wonderful question it was - taking in maps, local knowledge, astronomy and architectural planning to find the answer. No doubt you've already worked out that the winner is The Elm Tree, but for us it was a stunning surprise as it's the awesome town pub right opposite our text nerd headquarters. We were sitting on a pot of gold defined by the west-facing alleyway. But is 5 stars justified just for beer garden sunshine at 9pm? Not quite... but the Elm Tree is amazing on so many other fronts. A wide selection of Belgian beers with their glasses, superb local real ales, barrels of cider, pork scratchings made by the local butcher, jazz music and a library of books. Plus secret genius bar staff and a great sense of humour. Like the sign says... Great beers No Food Angry Barmen (i think they're joking)

There, was, ummmmmm nothing. I did have a draught carrot Saison - a first even for Craft Jesus! - which was seriously nasty in a bad/good way. Still, if you remember it, somethings going on, right? They have some weird taps and the occasional DIPA, still a rare Craft horse in the UK. It just doesn't come together for me. You have to be 'eating' to sit in the booth area - most unCrafty - and too much hipster dust has settled into the floorboards. My Craft Jesus rating a confused PA/IBA 52 IBU

In fact, I think we did!…read more It's good to see somewhere balance between pub and bar, and Cambridge is lucky to have somewhere like the Brew House as opposed to the usual chain suspects. The interior is very light and there's plenty of seating, with a 'restaurant' section towards the back and more upstairs. We headed straight to the bar when we arrived and looked over the different options. As usual, there were cask and keg available, which you can choose either from looking at the different labels (so sue me, I often choose my drinks based on the design!) or at the large blackboard. They also have some cans and bottles in the fridges, plus wines and spirits are also available. I tried some of the Cambridge Brewhouse's own pale ale - when in Rome and all that - and stuck with it for a couple of pints. It was nice and light, and a great session beer. Service was friendly and reminded me very much of drinking in Manchester; they're more than willing to let you taste a few of the beers and talk you through their favourites on that day. Worth a visit if you're a beer fan.
