Stopped in for lunch while in Cambridge. Service was fast and friendly and the order came out in good time from the kitchen. I had the Truffle Hunter burger. The restaurant description: Finest dry-aged beef, cheddar cheese, tomato, date & walnut jam, caramelised onions, rocket, honey & truffle mayo. I had the burger sans onions and it was quite good. The sweetness of the date & walnut jam was a nice balance to the umami flavor of the beef. The bun held up well with all the ingredients in-between which made for a pleasant dining experience...if you've ever had a burger on a disintegrating bun, you'll appreciate a good quality bun like they use here. The Parmesan and Truffle Chips we're just okay. Not much parmesan and any truffle oil used was not detectable. I would probably just recommend the regular chips instead. Overall I'm recommending Butch Annie's for when you're in Cambridge and craving a high quality burger. They also have a pretty good Classic Rock playlist going (for your listening pleasure) so your ears don't get jealous of your tongue. read more

Nightmare. Waited an hour for a burger... in which I asked for the order to be canceled as we did not anticipate for an hour to get our food... and the place wasn't even busy! Smokey, salty, spicy, sweet. Butch Annie's seems make sure all your taste buds are covered with each burger. I love a menu that makes it near impossible to choose just one item. Luckily, they have what I call a flight of sliders. Supposedly, it's to be split between two people. Not with this guy! I went with: Smokey Joe - pork patty featuring shallots and a cranberry jam The Jack - with Jack Daniels sauce, jack cheese and bacon Blazing Saddle - their spicy concoction with Whamjam, spicy mayo and chilies Lewd Lizzie - bacon and cheese with a special sauce So you'd think (knowing my love of spicy foods) that Blazing Saddle was my favorite, but it was actually a pork burger that won me over. The Smokey Joe was a great tongue tingling combination. I love all of them, but if given a choice, I'd probably go with the "Butch Size" of this burger. On a side note, their buns are very resilient and don't fall apart. This is a huge pet peeve of mine when reviewing burgers. Aside from the burgers, I really appreciate the local beers on tap and a good variety in bottles. They also have some bourbon on hand. What an incredible find while abroad. My favorite food, by far, is a cheeseburger. Leaving the states for four months left me with pretty much Five Guys to satisfy the craving. We needed a quick pit stop before heading over to see the excellent Richard Hawley at the Corn Exchange. It was early so getting seated was easy but there was absolutely no atmosphere about the place. The menu is limited so don't head here if you're not in the mood for a messy burger! I was surprised that there was no chicken option...beef, iberico or veggie and no salads either. Our burgers were suitably tasty and messy although the garlic mayo in the Oh La La dominated. The favourite thing for me was the wide range of draught American style beers. Overall, it was an OK choice for a quick bite but I don't think we'll be hurrying back. read more

After reading the reviews, I walked about 20 minutes to try this one. I'm happy I did. Maybe it's not a perfect 5-star, but it's definitely close. Situated in the middle of town, it's close to everywhere. Their burgers are big and delicious. The rosemary fries are awesome. Prepare to walk a mile or two of you finish your fries, or else you wouldn't sleep comfortably. Didn't try drinks, only sparkling water (Belu). The desserts look tempting, but I was full. The service is nice and fast. Music on the background could be turned down a bit but I guess it keeps conversations private. The lighting is perfect, not too dark like many restaurants. You could read and go to sleep comfortably. Will definitely come back if I'm in town again. The only thing I would change is how much the burgers are cooked. I would prefer to see some pink inside. My wife and I were looking for a great American tasting burger because well we were craving that!! With no exaggeration this is the place. First bite of the burger I had to put it down because it put me in a trance of just amazement. I ordered the Smokey Joe and my wife ordered the Ooh-La-La and both burgers were breath taking (Ooh-La-La has onion, wife's does not like onion, but ate everything). The burgers were cooked perfectly with a nice juicy pink middle, well flavored, and a well toasted soft bun that doesn't become soggy and disgusting from the juice of the burger. Six of us came here for early dinner on a Saturday. I ordered the Wild Eyed Coyote burger, which included spicy yogurt and black beans along with the standard beef patty and salad. The burger was pretty good overall, but I thought there was too much going on and the black beans overpowered the beef. The rosemary salted chips were delicious, although the portion was pretty small. In addition, the selection of craft beers was brilliant; I had the Organic Lager by Freeman's which was fantastic. Unfortunately, the service wasn't the best. We wanted to order another round of beers after our food and asked the waitress to come back in a few minutes. 15 minutes later, she came back and asked if we wanted the bill. We tried everything from the Classic Butch to the Smoky Joe to the Jack and all agreed the Classic Butch was the best. The truth is all their burgers are good. So too are their baby back ribs. Are the Rosemary Chips £3 good? I didn't think so. If you like Indian Bajias then you will also like what they call, onion popcorn. None of us liked it, feeling it was not a taste which blended well with the rest of our meal. The down in the basement ambiance is nice, warm, cosy. Fantastic burgers. Good quality meat, lots of flavour, toppings that compliment each other perfectly. You can pick the burgers up and bite into them without toppings exploding everywhere or having to unhinge your jaw like a snake. The rosemary fries are delicious. The service is lightning fast even when they're packed full. They have a good selection of beers and American whiskey, and they do a damn good ice-cream sundae. The only drawback is that they don't do anything *except* burgers, but hey, they're a small place with a small kitchen and I can't blame them for specializing in one thing. Oh, and I'd skip the onion popcorn; they're too doughy and the onion isn't cooked through. This place has awesome burgers. As a vegetarian- I get incredibly excited when I learn that I can choose any burger and ask for a vegetarian patty instead. I got the "smoky joe" and it was very flavorsome - it was the best vegetarian burger I've ever had. The group of us also shared an order of the rosemary fries, za-atar fries, and the onion popcorn. All very good but the rosemary fries were my favourite. They have a selection of shakes and craft beers. I wish we had one in London! The only reason is that this is a 4 star instead of 5 is that- one member of our party ordered a smoky joe non-vegetarian burger. He was brought the wrong burger not once but twice. This was quite careless being as though he was hungry and waited a long time to get the incorrect burger twice. The staff comped the incorrect burger and were apologetic but there is something a bit wrong when you get an order through wrong twice. We came here right before the lunch rush around 11:50 and got a table easy but around 30 mins later the restaurant was packed. They have an assortment of booths and tables. Burgers are great!! Closest thing to an American burger you can get in town. The meat is great and fresh. You have to order fries or any side separately and they are not the best, you're better off getting a beer as a side. The service could be better, its a little slow for me. Being an American and trying many burger joints in England I can honestly say these were the best burgers I have had here. My friend and I got the 4 sliders to split for £19 . My two were the Blazing Saddle and the Lewd Lizzie as I love very spicy things. Although not "spicy" they had great flavor with fresh veggies and meat. I cannot say this about the other burger joints in Cambridge or Oxford. Paired with a West Coast Pale Ale, I was in heaven. I would have given the full five stars but I think it is definitely expensive for what you get. £19 for four very small sliders is extortionate. Also, it is annoying that you have to order fries separately. But I have realized the two are a British thing. read more
