The Wrestlers - The bar area

Doesn't appear that this fine pub has any recent reviews - not to be overlooked though!…read more We looked around for something spicy on our recent visit to Cambridge (and had Indian the night prior), and The Wrestlers came up. Fairly buddy on a Thursday night but the bar host seated us. The menu has the usual curries and noodle dishes; order at the bar. Portions are generous, flavorful, and showed up quickly. A variety of drafts, wine, and soft drinks to complete the meal. A little noisy but manageable; enjoy!

The Wrestlers, where British pub atmosphere and Thai cuisine come together in Cambridge…read more It's located along a busy stretch of Newmarket Road, walkable by 20 minutes from the main part of town or accessible via car park near the superstore. The building itself functioned as a public house as early as the 1800s, but has since been updated in furnishings and food fare--Thai, to be exact. With the exception of pub Prawn Crackers, there are no starters, just mains. Straightforward and no frills. Find your seat, order at the bar. Each plate will cost between £9 and £11. We both got Pud Thai; one with vegetables and cashews and the other with beef. The portions are large and I had to pack the rest of mine in a takeaway box. As it's a pub, prepare for noise and difficulty finding seats around dinnertime. Luckily we came earlier for lunch. I didn't order a drink this time, but they have the standard selection of cask ales and cidres to go with your meals.

The Mill - Fish and chips

Went in for a really late lunch after a 2pm Cambridge Uni tour. It wasn't that full and we were…read moreable to grab a table for 4. Got the fish and chips: 1 big piece of fish, perfectly fried and a light and crispy batter. However, the fish didn't taste fresh. Also, the peas were underdone (I would have preferred mushy peas). My kid wanted the pulled pork chips without cheese and sriracha but the girl at the bar said we should just get chips with a side of pulled pork, which was exactly the same and you save £2. Pork was tasty but dry. Spicy chicken sando wasn't spicy so disappointed. Also got the beet salad with goat cheese - way too much spinach. The cask ale hit the spot for such a long walking tour. The place got real busy afterwards - best for drinking imo.

less than pleasant experience…read more I was in the queue to order at the bar and there were 3 parties ahead of me. When it was my turn, I approached the bar. The employee made eye contact with me then proceeded to take another person's order (someone not in the queue). At first I waited because it may have been a misunderstanding. Then this employee makes eye contact with me again and proceeds to take the order of the person directly behind me. I don't know if it was because I am an Asian woman or American but it was my first time experiencing such treatment after three months in England. Then after I finally reluctantly ordered my mac n cheese while contemplating the reason for this absurd service it further saddened me because the food was extremely salty. Never again
