Growing up this was my "local". I ate there a few years ago and it was pretty decent pub food…read more Against my better judgment when my cousin suggested eating here with the family (because it is close) I agreed and so 5 of us arrived for dinner. First thing you note is that ALL the character of the place has been removed by replacing original pub sign etc has been replaced with generic, plain white lettering on a maroon backdrop plastic looking signs. Second they seem to have changed it from a pub (translation for my US buddies - bar) to a very ordinary restaurant. The food was DREADFUL. Normally I would have rammed it down the waitresses throat but with family around I swallowed it (my anger not the food). I ordered bangers and mash - Surely no-one can make a dry nasty English banger?! Oh these guys can - and the nasty luke warm gravy crap? And the sausages were basically burnt so much that I thought my teeth would crack when I TRIED to eat one. My uncle barely touched his chicken dish it was so bad - my Dad (the human vacuum) ate his fish and chips but it didn't look good. The girls meals were totally not memorable in any good way. Never again.

But apart from that I love this place. The food is yummy. The service is good. It is a cosy restaurant and the outdoor pub garden is lovely on a warm day. The landlady Jane is fantastic and makes you feel very welcome. Children are very welcome in here and my little boy loves it. They don't do a childrens menu but the portions are so big that normally my son would just share with me. They also have a big disabled bathroom with babychanging. I think from all eaty places in Letchworth this is the one you should visit as it is a truely lovely place. Just make sure to book if you need a babyseat.

Yes we like it so much that we visited 2 days in a row! Letchworth was my birthplace and where I…read moregrew up until I went to University in 1967!! Letchworth was founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1906, and being a Quaker he forbade alcohol and pubs etc within the city limits. That is not common for Brits - who love their beers and gin and tonics!! So the growth of pubs and licensed premises in the last decade or two has been "refreshing"!! Both Mrs G and I loved this place! On day 1 Mrs G went for a burger which she liked very much indeed, while I opted for the full English breakfast which was excellent! We both had juices (no booze!!) while on day 2 we both took the buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Rare in England and delicious. Service was outstanding, warm and friendly. The whole ambience was wonderful - families, friends, mums and babies groups. Bright, airy, spacious and in the warm weather a beautiful indoor/outdoor experience. Yes of course we will be back next time that we are in Letchworth again!!

Exceptional customer service, a very thoughtful gesture and presented with a smile and a very professional and accommodating attitude. I will always recommend Cultivo Lounge for a casual meal or drinks, any time of day. Thanks Lizzy and Josh. See you again next time.

However I did end up staying my full two days - the very very nice manager (Asian lady) gave me tips of where to find parking and juggle times and options. It ain't easy folks - if you are not a local (like I basically am - was born in the next town) then finding your way around the problem and not getting parking tickets will be a challenge. The second disappointment was that breakfast on Saturday starts at 8am and I had to leave early for Heathrow. On Friday I enjoyed the (full cooked, excellent) English breakfast (included in the room charge) and so felt a bit ripped off the second night. The rooms (by UK standards) are very good, everything new and clean - while retaining much of the charm of this quaint place. Apart from parking the location is great. Only had breakfast but what I saw of the open kitchen and satisfied diners in the evenings I think it likely an excellent option for dinner. Without the parking issue easily 4 stars

Particularly The George, which has gone through quite a few changes in management and look and I do have to say this is the best it has looked. To start; the food. It contains a few classics, not standard bang-it-in-the-oven classics, but good pub grub/comfort food classics. As you can tell from the tip, I went for the Goliath burger, and Goliath it indeed was. It also came with chunky home cut chips and massive beer battered onion rings. Which, in layman's terms = NOM! One thing I will say and this is just nitpicky, is the on tap selection. They had your standard 'good' beers and largers like peroni, but would have been perfect for a venue like this to stock some more local beers and ales. Especially since you have quite a few in herts and London... Anyway, the bar is a decent size, but most of the venue is pretty much restaurant space, the staff were chatty and friendly... And yes. This is good place to stop by if you are on your way to or from London and or Cambridge.
