Firstly, I have had to create a new, anonymous account to write this review as the patrons and…read moremanager of this establishment threatened me. This is a homophobic pub with a some nasty regulars and a hostile manager (Darryl). Until tonight, I loved Molly Malones. It was my favourite pub in Hitchin. I attended a few times a month watch live sport. I met some lovely people, especially around the pool table. I went tonight to watch the PSG vs Chelsea game, and ended up playing poker with a couple of lovely guys, and the manager, Darryl, who turned out to be not so lovely. After the football, whislt I was at the bar, another patron shouted out 'Chelsea Nonce'. This is an offensive homophobic slur when connected to football, as evidenced by the conviction of Joey Barton who repeatedly used it on social media. I politely but firmly told the guy that was not okay. He got aggresive and told me to 'F' off. He then said it again. I reitereated that his language wasn't okay, and said I'd call the police if he said it again. He said it again. I dialled 999. At this point the manager (Darryl) asked me to leave the pub and took my drink away (I had just bought him a pint). He said he was removing me from the premises 'for my own safety'. The police attended. The said that 'nonce' was not a slur. I advised them to educate themselves, They were rude and dismissive. Darryl appeared at the door, grinning, and invited the officers into the pub. They left within 2 minutes, and reported on their radio that no offence had been comiited. I got their badge numbers and names and have made a complaint to Hertfordshire police. The police officers advised me that if I was now unwelcome in the pub, if I didn't move on and a complaint by the manager was made, I would be moved on by them forcefully. This is NOT an LGBTQ friendly pub. It's NOT a friendly pub at all under it's current management. Have a look at the other poor reviews for this pub and how the manager responds. J

Molly Malones is my local pub and I love it. It's a proper pub in my opinion and, as the name…read moresuggests, run on a bit of an Irish theme. It's situated on Nightingale road a little out of the centre of town but is well worth seeking out. The staff are very friendly, the beer is good and the whole atmosphere of the place is great. They show the footie when it's on and have live bands from time to time plus events such as party night on Halloween and New Year etc. It's not a particularly big place so it can get a little crowded at peak times. There's a little courtyard out the back for smokers but you couldn't really call it a beer garden. Parking can be problematic around here but there are soem free parking slots across the road next door to the petrol station. Go on - give Molly's a go - you'll come back again

Thankfully it's got a massive car-park so parking is never a problem. It's a popular pub and you can see why. They serve some decent pub fare and charge very reasonable prices. It's the kind of place you take the family for a Sunday roast rather than the pub you'd go to for a night out with your mates - more a restaurant/pub rather than a pub that sells bar food. They've always got some meal-deal on (two eat for under a tenner etc) so it represents particularly good value in the area. Great for families with children too - recommended!

We went to the Three Moorhens today for lunch and ended up walking out in disgust. It was the…read morehottest day of the year so far and very busy, but it became quickly apparent that the place was horrendously understaffed. The bar was predictably crowded and the one barmaid serving was irritable as visibly harassed. It took twenty minutes before to get served; notwithstanding the fact that she was under pressure, she clearly couldn't grasp the concept of prioritizing the customers who had been waiting the longest. Some people were left standing there for twenty minutes or more, whilst others would just walk up to the bar and got served instantly. All the while she was loudly complaining about the job and life in general. I finally got the drinks and found a table in the garden. The table itself was in a disgusting state, stacked with empties and covered with bits of food. There was only one girl serving, and she was frantically running from table to table trying to keep up with the demand. We went back to the bar, ordered the food, returned to the table and waited. And waited. After around thirty minutes, my wife went to the bar to enquire when the food might arrive. She wasn't rude or aggressive, or even complaining. She simply wanted to know when the food was likely to arrive. She was told that it wouldn't be long, and so returned to the table. What happened next was unbelievable. The girl who had been serving stormed over to the table and quite aggressively began complaining that the staff were working as hard as they could. She was visibly angry and repeated that we're doing the best we can several times. I tried to explain that we were simply enquiring about when the food would arrive but she completely ignored me and stormed off. At this point I went and found the manager and demanded my money back. I was simply not prepared to accept this disgusting level of service, and God only knows what the quality of the food would have been like in a place as badly managed as this. I told him that I thought the behaviour of his staff was rude and unprofessional. His only defense was that they were very busy that day, but he refunded our money and told us he'd have a word with the staff member involved. This Three Moorhens is located in a prime position in Hitchin and has a large garden area, making it a very attractive proposition for families wanting a pub meal. Not surprisingly, it seems always busy as a result. Don't be fooled however; the level of customer service is disgusting, the employees are rude and incompetent and the place seems to have a policy of employing the bare minimum of staff to keep the place functioning. I can't comment on the food itself because we never got to eating there, but given the level of staff morale and competence, I'm not sure I'd want to consume anything made in their kitchen! Needless to say we won't be visiting again.
