The Rose and Crown is one of Hitchin's oldest pubs - there's a sign outside detailing its history, its various name changes over the centuries and some of the scandalous antics of its owners and landlords. It's situated slap-bang on the market place and so its location couldn't be more central. It's actually a tiny little pub with not much room inside which means that the crowds can spill-out onto the square at popular times. The lack of space can make it a bit of a pain to get served sometimes too. Having said that, the beers alright and the prices are very good. Worth a look if you're in the area. read more
