It was in the two for £10 deal, although my friend opted for a duck wrap that wasn't in the deal. The salad was on the small side and unfortunately did not fill me up, it cost slightly under £8.00. I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. There are two bars, one of which is the sporting area and holds the telly and dart board and is kitted out in dark wood throughout. The other bar is comfier with cushioned chairs and stools, lots of beer paraphernalia on the walls, there is also a real fire which is extremely welcoming on a cold winters afternoon. In the summer you can use the beer garden at the rear which is surprisingly large given the location. It is worth noting that at lunchtime, food is served noon until two, but its best not to get there too late. The food is uber-traditional, from excellent soup and sandwiches with home-cooked ham to more substantial dishes such as lasagne, and just about everything comes with excellent chips. As mentioned above the beer is varied and is also kept exceptionally well in my opinion. There is normally a choice of around five real beers on tap, ranging from a porter to much lighter choices, plus a couple of lagers. All in all, the world would be a better place if all pubs where like the Red Lion!
