I really dislike giving a two star review especially to an establishment, especially when I was only 1/3 tables in a 1.5 hour period.
I had looked on the online menu and was craving something 'gamey'. I was hoping to get the pan fried pigeon breast. The menu online is nothing like they have on their actual menu, the online menu lists three burgers, they only serve one, about 75% of the online menu does not exist on the 'actual' menu. I didn't know I needed to call ahead for such a drastic change in what was available. I better do this next time to save on disappointment and money.
I ordered the sweet potato and coconut soup, it was good, very creamy. For my main I ordered the lamb. It came with 2-3 lamb chops, I counted, I ate them in 2.5 bites, small bites actually. For £18.95, that is just not enough food, I didn't even get 3 bites of lamb. There was couscous served, but it wasn't anything special. My husband ordered the steak burger, it was sold to us as a piece of steak on a bun, instead it was ground steak, I think the waitress could have been a tad more knowledgeable about what she was selling. She also suggested the lamb chops, which were tiny. I never feel comfortable leaving a restaurant and paying £70 for a meal and still not feel full. I am a petite woman, I am not an over eater, I had to go home and make myself dinner all over again because what I had ordered did not fill me up.
The Brinkley Lion's prices are much too high for the amount of food you actually are served. The soup was the only thing that was worth it.
The restaurant also claims to be in Newmarket, it is not. There isn't a huge selection of ales, beers or ciders either.
This place is a miss.
I hope the owners read this review and makes some changes if they want to keep their business running, unless they attract the rich who over spend and don't eat much. Who knows? read more
