There is a fireplace in the middle and we sat close to it taking in the warmth from the open fire. Staff are very friendly and service is quick. The building has its origins in the 16th century and according to local repute, William Tyndale (he of Bible translation fame) lived there for a while. The pub is a nice comfortable village pub with excellent beer and food from bar snacks to a full restaurant menu. It also offers bed and breakfast and Brisley is centrally located in Norfolk making it an ideal base from which to explore the county.

Its not just the quality, but also the flavours that you notice. Everything is cooked to perfection and comes out quickly and is always hot. I noticed that theyhave regular Karaoke nights on there, and coming up the have a Michael Buble tribute artist on as well. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. For start we all had the soup which was flavoursome, home made and accompanied by some wonderful salt crusted home made bread. For mains my mother and I had the pork loin which was cooked in a wonderfully fruity sauce and served with a medley of crisp potatoes, vegetables and crackling. My other half and my father enjoyed the beer battered cod and chips which they both managed to polish off with some gusto. My dad and I were too full for dessert but my partner and mother enjoyed the Bread and Butter pudding which was caramelised (ala Creme Brûlée) and served with a vintage marmalade ice cream. This was a lovely meal, great price and everything served was very tasty and served at the right temperature. The staff were very friendly and I will definitely be going back there the next time we visit Southwold.

Very cosy atmosphere, beautiful old building and they've retained the charm. The food here was delicious, and very reasonably priced, especially considering they use local ingredients. The hosts were very charming and the locals were as well. A lot of outdoor space so can imagine on a nice sunny Sunday, it would be nice to take advantage of! If you're in this area, I highly recommend popping by here. My only regret is we needed to head out without really getting to enjoy the evening atmosphere as we were walking back to our campsite and it was dark.
