Great local pub with an excellent, friendly atmosphere…read more I can confirm that the monthly quiz night is a fantastic way to spend the evening. Jonny and il professore put on a great night (with plenty of good food, to boot). Highly recommended! Update: Jonny has taken over running The Swan in Woolpit, near Bury St Edmunds. A great shame, since The Shiplaunch was becoming a really great bistro pub. Will look into a few of us hiring a sharabang to go to Woolpit for the quiz later in the year. Will be interesting to see if the new proprietor of The Shiplaunch is able to maintain the high levels that Jonny and crew set. Update, June 2008: Met the new owner this week. He is just getting the catering facilities up and running and is also looking into carrying on the activities that Jonny so successfully started (incl. quiz nights and live music). Will hope to review the food soon

We had a lovely meal made up of mostly spicy dishes from Northern and Western China. It was a completely different experience from the Chinese food (Cantonese style) we usually get in this country. The dishes were all very tasty and seemed perfectly authentic to me. The service was quick, friendly and polite. The location was a bit quiet but there was no parking restriction. We had a carefree afternoon enjoying our food without having to worry about the car.

Greeted warmly by Marita and co, and sat at a roomy table for 4, I had French Onion Soup (Had to be done!) followed by a traditional French Cassolet, complete with herby crusted top. Lucy had Olives to start, and the Steak and Ale Pie. All the food was fantastic, authentically French and exactly what we were looking for. I managed to squeeze in a little Creme Caramel to finish off my Frenchy Themed lunch, whilst Lucy sensibly abstained and minded her waistline! I love Arlingtons, its the only authentic and relaxed Brasserie around; and its nice to see an actual brasserie, not just a restaurant thats called a brasserie! Although the room and setting is so grand you can easily mistake it for a posh restaurant, and you'd miss the point. All in all, highly recommended, just keep in mind its an informal brasserie, NOT a snobby restaurant, and you wont be disappointed. (I may be bias, as I know the owners Ken, Liz and their manageress Marita well, but I honestly believe this is lovely venture that should be visited if you're in town!)
