This place saved us from trying to eat in the industrial wasteland called Harwich. It featured…read morelocally sourced, fresh menu items with plenty of vegan options. The owners were very sweet and helpful and the decor was a cute, eclectic, comfortable, but upscale local bistro. We had the samphire appetizer which was phenomenal! Apparently it's a seasonal salt water plant that's native to the eastern coast of England. We then had some sort of fresh artichoke plate with wild mushroom couscous (I think, or was it quinoa) as well as the curry. The main dishes were good, but the vegan ice cream and berry cobbler was the kicker! I would highly recommend anyone near the Colchester/Harwich area make the worthwhile trip down to Woodbridge to check this place out.

We were greeted promptly by the staff and seated quickly. I had something in mind to eat and asked what they recommended that would be near that and the waitress was very knowledgeable. Then we had yummy hot spinach soup and the texture was divine. The dinner was then delivered and the presentation was inviting. The food was very filling and offered something to my pallet that is normally accustomed to a bit of meat every now and then. Still, I was both satisfied with taste and it was very filling, which says a lot, because I do like American portions. The host Julie was fun too and later I had a wonderful latte and chat with her at the granite bar. I hope you too one day get to try this great find out. It is located about two blocks above the train station and is not difficult to find. Of special note too is that the name of this place is, actually it's estimated age. It used to be a pub. So, when in doubt, ask the locals where to find it and all generations can help you, because it goes back hundreds of years. It could tell a story-but make your own! Cheers!

Burnham Market is one of the many places I bookmarked as a "musttogo" when investigating the area…read more A Guardian article promoting it as "hells-charming" (I'm paraphrasing, here) didn't hurt, either. So...off we tumbled. Burnham Market, ho! The action in Burnham Market - not on, but very close to, the north coast of Norfolk - centres around a green, and Humble Pie is just off it, on the main strip. First off: on a blisteringly hot day, Humble Pie was deliciously air conditioned. Ok, I'll stay here for a while, thanks. No, but beyond that: I WANTED to stay! Here's why: - a definite focus on local produce - house-made jams and chutneys that make great consolation gifts for friends unable to join you in Norfolk - some of my favourite things, with several varieties on offer: olives! Truffles! OLIVES AND TRUFFLES! - if you're renting a place nearby, there are some good prepared meals that you can bring home (nb: some are marked as being Ottolenghi recipes, so...bound to be magic) - MOST notably, for my tastes: the pork pies. These were major. May-jah. Made from free-range local pork, the pastry was perfect, the meat was delicious and generous in quantity, and the seasoning was *so* spot on. Coming in 3 sizes, the totally decent price-point was just the icing on the cake or...erm...the picallilly on the pork pie? Yelp note: a special note for really interesting vegetarian options. NB in particular, a savoury veggie-and-pear tart option, but also things like hummus and spinach/cheese parcels.

Amazing produce. Very friendly staff. Great place, it you're in the area you must visit.read more
