I went here with my family to celebrate us. I'm a visiting American, and I was promised properly seasoned food, if we came here. Also, I was ready for something a little more upscale because I was feeling bougie. I love a good British pub and chip shop, and the Indian in this country is amazing...but I do appreciate nice things.
They definitely picked the right place. First off, the setting was gorgeous. It's in a beautifully manicured grounds, in a countryside hotel. There is an enormous redwood in the back garden, and there is outdoor seating. I saw part of the outdoor seating had a canopy over it and some heat lamps. It was raining(quelle surprise, England), so we found a table inside. Most importantly to me, it was disability accessible(except there was no accessible toilet that I found, but I didn't ask.)
We came on a Saturday, around 12:30pm, lunchtime. We easily found a table for the five of us.
The menu had something that appealed to people with different palates and diets. My former mother in law(did I mention lunch was with my former husband/baby daddy, his wife, MIL, and our 13 year old?lol) MIL is vegetarian and extremely picky AF about flavours, spices, tastes... She doesn't like herbs, can't do anything remotely chilli or curried, and lots of vegetables are also off the table for her. (Going out to eat with her is just as fun as it sounds...!). My kid is pescatarian, and the rest of us eat everything.
Wasband (ex is harsh- we're still fam) and wife both got Croque Monsoirs, and an order of chips, for their mains and two beers. They also got a large portion of duck tacos to split as a starter. My kid got the hummus to start and the curried potatoes and cauliflower for a main.) I ordered the mushroom gueyere soufflé, an order of snails, and the Lincolnshire sausage and mustard mash, and a glass of Tattinger rose' (#bougieAF). MIL settled on the bread with no chilli flakes, and the beetroot burger.
Suffice to say it was delicious and honestly- best meal I've had in this country in years. I didn't have to add salt or pepper to anything, either. I didn't want to stop eating. MIL didn't like the tzatziki sauce that came with the bread..and made a fuss about wanting butter. Which she promptly received. The service was exceptional!! read more
