This is sort of a gift speciality shop IMO, or for those who have a sweet tooth or love pecans in general. Looks like a little mom and pop type place. I came here for chocolate gift since they do have chocolate and pecans. I ended up with some chocolate but it wasn't what I expected entirely. Probably not the best place if chocolate is more of what you want. I was wanting some chocolate covered pecans but they didnt seem to have that at the time which surprised me. The staff was helpful otherwise to the best of their ability. I knocked a star only because for me, the prices were too high. I probably would look elsewhere next time for some pecan gifts although it has nothing to do with the quality here. Great little pecan shop, they let you sample and we had a hard time choosing 'cause it was all great. We finally settled on some chocolate bark loaded with pecans, we shared it with our kids, we'll be back when we're in the area. The location is convenient, the strip mall it's in has one of our favorite used book stores and a tasty Mexican restaurant. read more

I recently married and moved to Katy, so I've been checking out all the area offers. There are strip malls all over the place and lots of hidden specialty shops. I had a huge pecan tree in my backyard growing up, so I've always loved anything pecan. The Great Texas Pecan Candy Co. has two locations, one in the Texas Hill Country town of Gruene and this one. I think I have seen the one in Gruene but don't remember if I actually went in. Gruene is full of this type of specialty shops and it's really nice to have something like this in Katy. The location is good, not hard to see from Mason Road. It occupies a small space appropriate for the enterprise, which looks to have quite a bit of online traffic for special events and those poor souls that are isolated from civilization. The store hours are limited so you gotta plan your visit. I am pretty certain I was greeted by the owner Jeff, looked like his wife was working in the back. He was a polite and friendly man, ready to chat and provide samples of all of their standard items. They have an excellent variety of pecan candies: toffee (best!), chocolate, brittle, popcorn, candied/praline, spicy, salty and mint in different forms; truffles, cakes, pies, tarts, etc. It's all pretty stinking good. They package it in several different ways and sizes; fancy tins, bags and baskets. They have a desserts available, as well, and advertise that they try to always have something on hand if you are in a pinch and don't have time to wait on a special dessert order. Check out the photo with prices. All in all, this is a pretty cool place in a good location with nice folks running it. I'd like to patronize it every other day. Unfortunately, I'd be fat as a tick and if I ever want to get Yelp Elite, I need other reviews. Try them out by stopping by or having it shipped to your house. You won't be disappointed. read more

I contacted The Great Texas Pecan Candy Co to arrange for small bags of their pecan candies for my wedding favors. My experience was absolutely amazing working with Bunny, one of the owners. She sent me some samples free of charge to try out to be sure I knew what I wanted to order for my wedding. All of the candy is absolutely delicious and fresh. We had a hard time deciding! I placed an order for 150 candies and they arrived exactly as described in cute packaging several days before I even expected the order. The Great Texas Pecan Candy Company is insane. Insanely delicious, that is! See, every once in a while, The Ol' Mangaretta's sweet tooth kicks up, and it must be sated. I get all sunshine, lollipops, rainbows, and everything--with emphasis on the lollipops. Enter this wonderful candy company. I can't remember how long ago it was that I found them on those interwebs, but it's been at least 12 years. Never mind that I don't literally buy lollipops from them...I do metaphorically. Because what's more lickable: a lollipop or a big, dukin' piece of pecan roca (toffee)? (That question is rhetorical, but if you answered with a lollipop, then The Ol' Mangaretta needs to take you out back.) Besides roca, their "Poppin' Pecan"--a richer, butterier, tastier nod to Cracker Jack--turns up the insanity. It's definitely my favorite. And don't get me started on their pralines... These nice people have also come through for me with shipping gifts of Poppin' Pecan to my friends and family. I'm looking forward to the day when I can go to the actual shop and buy one of those desserts that they can't ship. Their pumpkin pecan cake and chocolate trifle look...insane. So, five stars for sating Mang's sweet tooth, helpful and polite staff, buttery-rich roca, ballistic brittle, delectable Poppin' Pecan, metaphorical lollipops, and insanity. i am not one to usually leave reviews but a friend and i went into this location to see what they had and my friend decided to ask about the hiring sign on the door. when we walked in the woman there was already standoffish, when we asked about the hiring she asked if my friend could take their "nose ring" out. when my friend said no the woman could have left it at that but then decided to go on a rant about this company being conservative and how nose rings only belong on animals. there was no need for that comment, she could have told my friend no and moved on but she felt the need to be rude. i read more

I was lucky enough to catch this booth at Rodeo before it was shut down. I purchased an assorted tin to bring back to NY and boy, are they delicious! I'm not too sure of the types - one is candied, another is like a toffee with chocolate, one is a brittle and the last is chocolate with pecans. Each one is absolutely blissful! The quality and taste is like no other I've ever had and my family devoured the tin! I will definitely stop by one of their locations on my next trip! read more
