I woke up the Sunday after Christmas craving Indian food--simple as that. I wanted it downtown Cleveland, and after checking reviews, I decided on The Great Indian Kitchen. Why this spot? Two reasons: free street parking on Sundays and a buffet. I called ahead to confirm if the buffet was available, but there was a bit of confusion on the phone--they kept asking about Palm Beach. After clarifying, they confirmed the buffet was open. I arrived around 11:15 am and parking was a breeze--free, just like advertised. Once inside, I realized the buffet didn't start until noon. Wish I had known that when I called, but it didn't stop me from enjoying some incredible food. I decided to dine in anyway. Originally planning on butter chicken, the staff suggested the Desi chicken if I liked spice--which I do--so I went for it, along with garlic naan and a mango lassi. Food took about 30 minutes, and I learned that the mango lassi is self-serve from a cooler. When my food arrived... wow. The aromas, the flavors, everything--beyond words. Hands down the best Indian food I've ever had. The service was a little slow, probably because there were so many people and only one person handling the register and delivering food while preparing the buffet. It made things a bit challenging, but the staff were friendly and the food was absolutely worth the wait. The aesthetic is hard to describe--it's not fancy or polished, but in its own way, it's kind of cool. The tables, the decorations, the overall vibe... it just works. It's a casual, quirky space with a charm you either get or you don't. I liked it. It's a cool vibe if you take it for what it is. Another point: the restaurant was full, and most patrons were from the Indian subcontinent, which speaks volumes about its authenticity. It's not fancy, but it's spectacularly authentic. If you love real Indian cuisine, this is the place to go.

If I could give negative stars I would. I live in California and mortality ordered from this restaurant for delivery. 2 minutes later I saw I made a mistake so I called and asked to cancel the order so they don't waste food and I am refunded. They said they cannot cancel orders? It is their app that they own, how can you not cancel the order? How am I able to pick up the food and receive what I have paid for? I understand it is a mistake however I called two minutes after the order is placed so saying the food is already being prepared is a lie. Horrible business.

Chili paneer

My coworkers and I dined here while in town visiting and had a great experience! We got the chili paneer, aloo gobi, butter chicken, garlic naan, and jamun. I love my jamun heated up and the server even went above and beyond to heat it up for us! My husband is Indian and I'd love to take him here if I visit Cleveland again. The establishment is clean and spacious.

Paneer dosa

Okay first of all, we arrived right as they opened at 10am, so the cleaning was starting from the late night crowd the evening before... the food took about thirty minutes for two dosa and chai. I recommend (personally) the paneer dosa, but that's my preference! The texture and flavor was spot on, and the fresh chai was SO worth the wait! Yes, as others have said, it isn't a four star restaurant in cleanliness, but it's decent. Think fast food level as far as that goes. But the food was GOOD! And the service even better! Will likely be back when I'm back in the Gareway District again! (Breakfast yummmm)

Not what we wanted. Got wrong meat and looks like they just dumped Goat Curry on mandi rice since goat curry was today's special.

Worst experience. Not what I wanted. Just dumped goat curry on mandi rice I don't want to go back again

Oh this place was so good. The vibes were great. Very chill and I loved the music videos playing in the back. The food was SO delicious. Spicy for sure but it was so yummy. Also the staff was SO nice. Very patient and attentive and making sure all our needs were met. I would have a better picture but the phone didn't eat first.

Delicious! Fantastic authentic Indian food. Very diverse menu with northern and southern options. The bathrooms were very clean and nice which I love.

Super friendly staff, the food was very flavorful but very spicy! Next time will ask for less spice . 9/10 would definitely come here again

Rice pudding, raita, fruit custard and papad

So I heard they were doing buffet over the weekend, I thought I'd check them out! Honestly, I didn't have a lot of expectations having read the previous reviews but duuuudeee - those reviews were an understatement for sure! Firstly the buffet is on the costlier side $20 per person, which is definitely on the higher side. Secondly, not a lot of options in the buffet as such - there's was plain rice, biryani, chicken Tikka, butter chicken, paya(mutton soup), Andhra chicken, dal, ragi balls, aloo Gobi, chole (which didn't look edible), papad, raita, rice pudding, fruit custard, salad and fruits! That sounds like a lot right, if I was a vegetarian, my only options would be - aloo Gobi, plain rice, dal, chole, steamed ragi balls(which tbh is an acquired taste you're not gonna like it), papad raita rice pudding and salad/fruits! Does that sound like a $20 meal to you? Nope not to me honestly, and I can cook all of these for a dozen ppl with that 20 bucks!! Thirdly and mainly this 'unlimited' buffet includes just 1 portion of flat bread! Can you believe that? One 6" thin flat bread! Ok now for the taste test - so m an Indian born in India in a south Indian home in a Mumbai which is a melting pot of cultures within India, why am I saying this - so you understand where I come from and how much I understand Indian food! The taste is Meh!!! Yes that's my review! The only decent item on the menu worth a second helping was butter chicken and who'd pay $20 for unlimited butter chicken and plain rice at an "unlimited" buffet? Not me please! I'd not recommend this place to anyone for even a 1 time visit!

Curry chicken combo

I ordered Uber eats so I don't have any info on the ambiance or service. But the chicken came. The picture is of all the bones in the chicken. You couldn't eat it. It had a full of cartilage full of Bones. It was disgusting. I threw it in the garbage can. This is a $21 meal that I just had to waste. I highly recommend going someplace else.

Paneer butter masala, mixed veg curry etc. It s all good.

Their numbers posted to place order are non working and small portions were extra small. The mutton that came with meal were mostly bones.

They have about 8 or 9 sandwich options all made to order on a crispy focaccia bread. They also offer my favorite, San Pellegrino Italian sodas and homemade chocolate chip sea salt cookies. They slice the meat for you right there and it was all super fresh. I got the #2 which had salami, prosciutto, and capicola with burrata and pickled hot peppers. The sandwich was good and tasted really fresh. I really enjoyed the burrata. I also did not miss the fact that there was no sauce or spread on it. I'm not a huge fan of crispy or hard bread, so I think I would have loved it even more if there was a soft bread option. I definitely look forward to returning though, maybe they do have another bread option available, I didn't ask. You can also customize the sandwich, so I would have added some arugula. The cookie was incredible!

They just keep placing another brisket on, and the ribbons of beef keep falling. There are meat trimmings everywhere, tubs of pickles, and the sense that the folks behind the counter know exactly what they are doing. The small dining room is packed with people sitting elbow to elbow, gripping massive sandwiches with stadium mustard in the corners of their mouths. It is loud, cramped, messy, and glorious. I joined the line just before 11 and got inside about 11:50 AM. I'm currently standing in line waiting on my sandwich which is a corned beef melt. I ordered a corned beef melt, which is toasted rye, cornbeef, double Swiss cheese - hot & melted with Kraut on the side and dressing. I got a side of potato pancakes, and also coleslaw. The folks were extremely friendly on the inside, very welcoming and very efficient as they worked to make who knows how many meals. And you'll be glad to know every sandwich comes with a dill pickle, wrapped in its own paper and ready for delicious consumption! The dill is a big deal to me because I like spears, as in the pickle not necessarily (in this case) the pop star! Come early and be ready to wait! The place is really kitchsy and has a great atmosphere. And the folks really make it awesome to be there. It has the feel of a destination restaurant the kind of place that is an experience to visit not just because of the food because of the culture and the people and the phenom that it has become.
