    Aloo gobi and chicken biryani.

My brother told me about Chennai Delicacy a couple months ago while we were discussing his favorite vegan places. When he said it is also his favorite Indian place in the Cleveland area, I immediately bookmarked on Yelp. The owner is a cheerful and helpful guy. He worked as an engineer and his wife as a doctor prior to opening the place. I am glad that they followed their passion for food and now serve up fine South Indian cuisine. Their scientific and mathematical precision are evident in the dishes. Everything is made fresh and in house. Not every Indian restaurant in the area can boast this. They also cater to a few of the local hospitals including the Cleveland Clinic and Metro. Sometimes there are language and culture barriers for vegan customers at ethnic restaurants. This is not the case at Chennai Delicacy. I went to Chennai for lunch today with my friend and wife. The staff was very accommodating to Liz and her vegan dietary restrictions. All of the meat is halal for any of the carnivorous members of the Muslim faith. There is a small table to eat at in the store although the food is prepared in to-go containers. They will gladly heat up a meal if you wish to eat inside. There is a $15 credit cart minimum. The portions are generous and can be stretched out to multiple meals. My favorites thus far have been the chicken biryani and guntur chicken. The guntur chicken has an excellent dry spice rub. I plan on having a few beers out on the town tonight and coming back home to this as a nightcap.

My friends and I ordered a ton of food: the paneer 65 appetizer (my favorite thing we ordered!), the samosa chaat, veggie korma, malai kofta, paneer tikka masala, and a bread basket. Everything was great, though the korma was a bit sweet for me. The server didn't ask for our preferred spice level , so I assume everything was mild. But it was very delish and the right level of spice for me (except for the korma). Only not a 5 star review because our server seemed pretty grumpy and unhappy haha but a gentleman whom I believe was the owner came over multiple times to ask how our food was and recommended some dishes for us as it was our first time in. He was super friendly! Highly recommend checking this place out. I know I'll be back again soon!

Located in a stand alone building that was probably a Friendly's before the outside and the inside is pretty generic, nice and clean, but certainly no indication of what is being served. Honest is a vegetarian Indian restaurant with a menu that is different than any other Indian restaurant in the area. The menu runs a variety from versions of curries, sandwiches, Indo/Chinese and even pizzas. There are a number of items of Indian street food and the overall vibe is more of the kind of modern Indian casual restaurant you might actually find in India, which makes sense since this is a local franchise of a chain that started in India. Not surprisingly the times I have visited the clientele was primarily Asian. During my visits I have tried a number of items and while I found the sandwiches were good, what were my favorites were the curries and the Chinese style noodles. A number of the items were flavored with very authentic spicing so you need to be careful if you are hot spice sensitive; I really enjoyed the spiciness, but not everyone will. Overall Honest Restaurant is a great alternative to most of the other Indian restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is casual, the food is very good with some options not usually available, prices are moderate and service is good. Well worth a try especially if you are looking for something a bit different.

I've never had Indian food before, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect or what to order--but everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The ambience of the restaurant is very welcoming and fun, making it a great spot to try something new. For appetizers, we had Lasuni Gobi, which is crispy cauliflower tossed in a garlic chili sauce with bold Indo-Chinese flavors. It was really tasty, though definitely on the spicier side. We also tried the Vegetable Samosa, the crispy pastry with spiced potatoes was really interesting burst of flavor. For our main meal, we went with Chicken Tikka Masala, which was grilled chicken in a creamy tomato sauce with aromatic Indian spices. Paired with Garlic Naan and served with a side of rice, it was absolutely comforting and flavorful. Everything we tried was fantastic, and the staff were welcoming and helpful, especially since it was my first time trying Indian cuisine. Our server was very attentive and helpful with suggestions on what to order. Marsala Monsoon is definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're curious about Indian food or just want a fun, flavorful meal!

This year's birthday outing took us to northern shores, thundering waterfalls and Masala Monsoon! We arrived hungry after hiking at CVNP. Very strikingly pretty decor! We loved the free crunchy snacks and fresh mint chutney. We started with the Lasuni Gobi appetizer, a fried cauliflower in chili sauce that rocked both our worlds. We wanted to try the Velvet Broccoli, another vegetarian dish, but alas it somehow came contaminated with chicken. Thankfully, the staff rectified the situation and we got a second order of the incredible Lasuni Gobi instead. I had a new-to-me curry, the Lababdar paneer, which was utterly delicious and perfectly spiced. We shared the bread basket and bestie had a mild veggie curry. We were treated to the Gulab jamun for dessert on the house. Love the romantic decor, awesome grub and friendly helpful service. We will be back!

When we arrived at 8:15 (they close at 9) on a Saturday night, there were only two other tables of people dining, but in the next half hour, three more tables came in. The space is quite plain (little decor), with wood tables, a tv playing an Indian movie, and yellow walls. They are also connected to (same owners I presume) an Indian grocery store. Our order consisted of chai, veggie spring rolls, pani puri, masala paneer dosa, and special dosa. The food came out timely, hot, and the service was quick and efficient. The spring rolls were mediocre but everything else was sooooo yummy. I could eat that dosa every day and be totally happy. The food was quite spicy and very flavorful. I'll need to order a Lassi to help out my low-spice tolerance but it was the type of spicy that was not overpowering and tasted great. I'm looking forward to going again soon!

For lunch, my friend and I split a pani poori appetizer, thali with goat, and chicken jhol momo. Before our appetizer arrived, the server presented us with complimentary bowls of lentil soup. The soup was warm, flavorful, and comforting, perfect for January weather. Next came the pani poori. The little crispy balls were served cold and made for refreshing & tasty treats. They were great on their own and even better when dipped into the accompanying "sour water," which was a bit spicy and equally refreshing (FYI - the sour water is heavy on the cilantro, so if you don't like cilantro, just be aware!). The thali came with an abundance of food, and we enjoyed almost everything on it. The platter came with a few different curries that were all delicious and well-spiced. One of them had a good portion of tender goat, and another had fried cauliflower and potatoes I couldn't get enough of. The thali also came with a scoop of rice. When we were done with the scoop of rice but only halfway done with the curries, the staff was sweet enough to bring us an extra plate of rice to soak up the rest of the curries. The platter also came with a piece of gulab jamun, which was sweet and rich. In addition, the thali came with a small serving of mango achar. I took a bite, and the pickled mango took my tongue on a journey, LOL. First, I got hit with the super saltiness, then the super sourness, and finally the lingering, intense spiciness. I can't say the mango achar was to my liking, but I don't regret trying it! The chicken jhol momo was fantastic as well, and I couldn't get enough of the tender steamed dumplings and that excellent broth!

A bright, cheery setting with an Al fresco offering and a beautiful table spread makes you feel like royalty. We each ordered something different and there were positives and negatives for each. The tandoori chicken was good but the texture was a little off-putting. The goat fry biryani tasted incredibly unctuous and meaty, but was surprisingly light. The issue, however, is that it was cooked on the bone and said bones were left in the dish (same with the chicken biryani). Having to fight getting the meat off the bone was a chore, but the occasional bone sliver in a rice dish made for a less than pleasant eating experience (and a dangerous one at that). Finally, the cashew chicken was delightful, but even ordered mild, it was painfully spicy. The food came out at different times, like 5-7 minute intervals for each diner and the pacing was....hmm....let's say it was not concerned with speed...at all...even a little bit. For the money, it was worth the price as the portions were gigantic. The real question...would I go again? If I'm out that way and want Indian cuisine...sure. Would I go out of my way...not so much.
