[4.50 stars] A March downpour brought heavy overnight winds. We were woken by the sound of metal banging against our home's aluminum siding. After a day of trying to locate the source of this annoying noise, a loose strip of siding fascia was found to be the culprit.
Lacking a ladder of sufficient height to reach the work area I began calling local home repair companies whose online ads mentioned work in siding repair. Finding few who answered their phones, responded to website requests for quotes or had availability that week I also posted the job with Angi, Mr. Handyman and Thumbtack.
We saw this as a fifteen minute repair for someone with a 40 foot ladder, hammer and handful of rust-safe nails. Apparently most of those who would eventually reply needed pictures and formal quotes, all coming in within the $400 to $650 range. What on earth was I overlooking?
In the midst of this madness I received a call from Dennis at The Great Construction Company. He had received our inquiry from Thumbtack.
Dennis is an estimation specialist who happened to be in the area and asked whether he could stop by to provide an estimate. "Sure," I said.
He arrived at the agreed time and needed only a few seconds to determine that my assessment of the scope of work was correct. If I would lend him a hammer he agreed to reattach the facia for $100. The job was thoroughly completed in about ten minutes. I promptly contacted each of the contractors who had expressed an interest, advising that the job was done. Calls, text messages and emails continued for the next two weeks, and Angi is persisting to this day.
Dennis was perfectly capable, personable and professional. Although hands-on repair isn't his everyday gig, his responsiveness and politeness remains very much appreciated. Although this was hardly a challenging work order, we would use The Great Construction Company again. read more
