Nearly died from food poisoning and management amazingly apologizes for it then insists I never got poisoned even with doctor's medical report.
I am going to have to say STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT.
On February 20, I ordered a rare burger, the cook gave me something that was practically raw as the inside was still cold while the outside was warm. As a foreigner, I didn't want to complain as locals are sensitive, and so I took a few bites and left.
Within half an hour, my stomach began to feel incredibly painful and I vomited four times and had diarrhea that caused me to go about eight times by the time I got to my apartment.
I ended up going into so much pain that I couldn't get up and a friend had to come and rescue me a few hours later and take me to the hospital, where I was admitted to the ER, then overnight and loaded with antibiotics, because the pain was so unbearable that on a scale of 0-10, the pain was 12. I was screaming and couldn't control myself.
I called the manager from the hospital on the 21st and then visited on the 22nd, and they tried to prove I never ate there, but the cook said she remembered me and apologized. I didn't want to cause a problem and stupidly believed in the sincerity and kindness of humanity when I didn't ask them for written statements of the apology from the cook, Cam, and the manager on duty, Evie. I left my bill confident they would help out. Within two weeks, no word from them as they had promised and they had begun to avoid my calls, as neither the manager on duty or the other manager would return my calls.
A month later, I finally reach the manager Danilo, who claims that he never got any messages and they want a lab report. How strange I called every week and nobody told him I called, then he says his own mobile phone is not working, which up to now seems to reject my number specifically if I call. I went to the hospital for information on what to do, and because the food poisoning was so bad that after the antibiotics, I couldn't defecate for three days to give a stool sample (and I had vomited all the bad food out), there was no lab report as they demanded from me to consider what to do. Instead, I spoke to the doctor who took notes and said it was inarguably food poisoning due to cause and effect and based on the medications administered and the symptoms.
In mid-April, I followed up after they had had the medical legal report for two weeks and the manager Danilo said their legal team was still looking at it and they would call me back, which, up to now, never happened. By May 4th, I called and followed up and Evie said I only submitted a bill, which is a lie because I submitted the medical legal report and have proof from a receiving copy signed by their staff. Then the owner, Madalaine Melendrez jumps on the phone to scream at me and said "Imagine you are a business. Prove you got food poisoning! What do you want? Oh, you got sick after a half hour of eating our food? That's not food poisoning!" She then threatened that this call was being recorded, which, by the way, without informing someone before you record and getting their consent, is totally illegal.
It is a bit strange considering that 1) the cook admitted she prepared the food wrong and apologized, 2) I did get sick immediately after, 3) the medical legal report by the doctor at the hospital states it was food poisoning, 4) they are saying that they need proof it was their food and want a lab report even though the cook already apologized and the doctor already gave the medical report and can easily be contacted.
This restaurant is proof that selfishness and corruption are more important than integrity, and even if my bill from the doctor were only 100 peso (it was almost 16,000 pesos plus 3,500 for the medical legal report they demanded), as a principle they should pay for causing food poisoning and suffering. But, they have shown who they really are and frankly, at this point, I think I will simply say that you should never eat here whether it's because the food was terrible, the staff is untrained, and the management and owner are insufferable jerks. read more
