Kwangsook is AMAZING! I last posted in 2009, and my husband and I still ONLY use The Gold Thread for our alterations. From our everyday clothes, to our Red Carpet attire for our film screenings and special events. I'm posting today because this week I had a HUGE event, the SIFF Opening Gala, and I couldn't find a dress! Last minute, I found the perefct one but it was TWO sizes too big...I bought it anyway. Tuesday, I rushed to The Gold Thread and to my one and only, Kwangsook. I needed my dress taken in 2 sizes and done by Thursday before 2pm. I knew this was a lot to ask and I normally would never want to rush anyone's craft...but Kwangsook said she would get it done...and she did! I cherish Kwangsook and her daughter's opinion and admire their work ethic and skill. The price is right, the job is done with care and I always leave happy. The Ladies are excellent! I am short and curvy, so nearly everything I buy needs to be altered. The mother and daughter do excellent work and offer good suggestions. Yes, the prices are high as is the quality of their work. If you want cheap prices, have your alterations done at a dry cleaners where the core business is NOT alterations. You get what you pay for. read more

Absolutely Amazing! I had a custom Halloween costume made ( I ordered it online from Europe) that arrived way too big. Went to The Gold Thread....the transformation was amazing! I walked in with something that looked like a trash bag on me and ended up with a super custom fit. At a great price! Now I take my jeans, shorts, whatever I need to The Gold Thread. I tried 'em once, and was surprised at the cost several months ago. This time I took in a new sports coat to have the sleeves shortened. This time after getting the length marked, I asked "How much"? I walked out when they (after the "mom" had eyeballed me) told me $39! That was 2/3rds of what I paid for the coat that I bought on clearance!!! Way too expensive for me! read more

I've have had multiple jeans hemmed here, and she always does a good job. I feel the price is worth it given the fast turnaround time (2-3 days) and the quality of her work. If you live in West Seattle, this is the place to go! read more

For starters, I have dealt with this store over a long period of time so I feel like I can offer up some helpful info. The Good: Kwansook was often very pleasent to speak with and I was pleased with a lot of her work. The Bad: Kwansook runs her shop more like a hobby and less like a business. This will will be a huge problem for you if you have a busy schedule and need stuff done on time. Time after time after time, I would be told something would be ready on a given date and it wasn'. Worse yet, sometimes my work simply wasn't even started days/weeks later. Beyond that, I would often stop by during normal working hours and the shop would be temporarily closed and I would not have time to wait around in hopes that it would re-open. These 2 problems combined to waste a lot of my time as I would go to her shop and leave empty handed. To be fair to her, I am ok with the fact that Kwansook's shop would naturally get busy sometimes. But in those cases, I would expect a simple "Hey, I apologize that I can't have this for you today like I said I would, but it will instead be ready for you next Tuesday" type phone call. I finally left to find greener pastures. If you care about your time, you should too. read more

Took some suit pants in to get hemmed and have the legs taken in, they did a great job and were fast with the fittings and alterations.

I take all of my alterations either here or Adam Tailoring in Pioneer Square. The Gold Thread is great for me because it's in the neighborhood. The woman who owns it and her daughter are both very nice and welcoming, and the atmosphere of this little shop is great. They have a roomy area for changing and a nice big fitting room as well - and everything is well-lit. I've never had any problems with the alterations I've had done here either - the work is always excellent and I get my garments back very quickly. They're also very accommodating if you need something back extra quickly and I've found them to be able to meet all of my deadlines for short-notice alterations. The only downside is that their prices seem a bit higher than average, from my experience around Seattle. I choose to go here when the convenience of staying in West Seattle or of getting something done by a deadline is worth the extra money - and often it is for me. read more

I love this place, some reviews consider them high but I am willing to pay for quality work. I am addicted to seamstress shops and have probably been to everyone in the city. They are very sweet, comparatively affordable and excellent craftsmen. Highly recommended! read more

Love them! They have altered, seamed, replaced zippers with nary a problem and they are really good and very friendly.

I brought my mother-of-the-bride dress in to be altered. They told me it would be completed in a week. It was. When I tried on the dress, it fit perfect. Also, Kwangsook showed me how she altered it without tearing it apart (silk dress). She charged me less money than anticipated and it looked great. I will definitely take future alterations here. Sort of ridiculously expensive ($73 for taking in two pairs of pants? Is this normal?), but the ladies did a good job. There is also a really cute dog there, and candy, so I guess it evens out. read more

I had a series of weddings to go to this summer and had 3 separate dresses I needed altered. Kwansook did a great job, her shop is clean and neat and she has a great dressing room - not some curtain hung in the corner of a busy dry cleaner. She even talked me out of something I wanted done, as she thought the dress didn't need it (she was totally right). She could have just gone ahead and done it and charged me for the work, but she didn't and the dress and my wallet were better off for it. She made those dresses look awesome on me! She's also hemmed 3 pairs of pants for me, one pair were black designer jeans with fancy-schmancy stitching, which she matched perfectly. I am short and pants are always too long on me, so I will definitely be back to The Gold Thread. (I also think being greeted at the door by Kwansook's little dog is a bonus, he's adorable). read more

Very slow for alterations!! I gave them over two weeks to hem two dresses and by the the date I was told to come back nothing had even been started. I had to cancel my alterations as i needed the dresses immediately for a wedding two days afterwards. DO NOT GO HERE!! Terrible service!! I brought my dresses to another alterations spot and they saved me and finished within 24 hours. read more

I live less than a block from this little shop. I took a pair of pants in to make them cooler*. She did a superb job, but I decided I needed a little more done. She asked me if I had time to wait and I said sure. I've never seen someone work so efficiently and perfectly. She had re-seamed the length of my pants entirely in less than 10 minutes. This mom and daughter team are a together act. I've brought them Panama Hats to repair, sarongs to create off my pattern, alterations, most anything you could imagine - and they simply do quality work. A well run shop! read more
